    Surgery date Sept. 30th

Mine is 9/29. My surgeon required a 3 day post-op diet but I pretty much didn't want to eat anyway. (Big shocker there for me! (- I just tried to make sure I got all the Protein in. Anyway, good luck to you guys! I'm so excited to have made this decision and have it FINALLY here!

    September surgery

Going in tomorrow (9/29) for a revision from lap band to RNY. I haven't posted much but wanted to thank you all for sharing your stories. Reading about other people going through the same things, asking the questions I've wanted to know, providing advice and just sharing their stories is so invaluable. So thanks y'all! Will check in soon on the other side of this! Lap Band 2009 - 250 pounds Stayed at 220 for 5 years Gained after taking fluid out in prep for RNY Starting weight tomorrow for RNY surgery - 251 Goal weight - 130 lbs 43 years old; 5'3"

    Sleeve to Bypass revisioners?

Hi all. Having lap band to RNY in the morning (9/29/2014). (-: It's been a long wait. I had my lap band in 2009 at 250 lbs. Stayed at around 220 for the next few years. Did Medifast and got down to 199 but gained it back plus some. I had the fluid taken out of my band four months ago due to signs of erosion, acid reflux and in preparation of RNY. Gained almost 25 pounds in 4 months following the fluid being taken out. Ugh. So, going in tomorrow I should be about 251-252. If it's less (due to the 3 day pre-op diet) great, if not, that's okay too. I have no doubt I'll lose it. I've researched this like crazy. Read every book, success and failure story I could find. I really understand the life changes I need to make this time and can't wait to make them. Couch potato to 5k is my first one - 2015 Disney Princess Half Marathon is the second! Anyway, I look forward to giving some updates to how it goes. I don't post much but reading all of yours has been invaluable. I'm wishing us all good health and success!!! Kathi
  4. Hi there. Just wanted to chime in on your post. I am having my lap band removed and revised to RNY with Dr. Turnquest on 9/29/2014. He has an excellent reputation - every single person I've encountered (hospital registration desk, hospital ultrasound tech, outpatient surgery center nurses x4, ob/gyn, psychologist for consult) each person has RAVED about this guy. I have never had so many people be so complimentary of a doctor before - ever. He gave you that advice for a reason. The surgeon that did my lap band (Richard Wilkenfeld - Conroe/True Results) closed his office a few weeks ago - I don't think that's a coincidence. I think that overwhelmingly people are having their bands removed - many for complications, many for not losing weight. For me, it's both - minimal weight loss, slipped band and acid reflux. (And both the ultrasound tech and outpatient surgical nurse also had their's removed and revised by Dr. Turnquest - both to the sleeve.) Also, I test positive for the markers for lupus (foreign body effects your immune system). There are definitely people that are successful with the band and I congratulate each one of them. As time has passed, they have become (are continuing to become) the minority. Please seriously consider taking his advice on the lapband. Go to obesityhelp.com, and other sites. I felt like you did six years ago and chose the least invasive surgery, unfortunately, it was not the success I hoped. I regret not having researched it more thoroughly or having the information about it that we now have. Best of luck to you.

    September surgery

I'm September 29th too! Seems like forever away....
  6. I was banded in November and have had four fills. I don't think I'm at the point I need to be (fill-wise) and am having another fill tomorrow. I'd be lying if that the only thing I could use as an excuse though. I am just not doing this right!! I need to "re-start" from step 1 and need to get my head in to this. I t hink I would be so much more successful if I actually "worked the program." Has anyone been here??? I am so mad at myself for not doing the right thing. Anyone's advice is appreciated!!! (Please don't take this as an invitation to be nasty, I know this is all on me!)

I think I am failing at this!!!!

Thank you so much for your advice. I agree that writing things down would definitely help. I'm hoping that tomorrow's fill is going to kick my butt into compliance but I guess that's a lot to ask for! (-: I'm in Houston too (Spring actually). We actually started very similarly but you've passed me way up on the weight loss - congrats on that!!! Kathi
  8. Hi all, thank you for taking the time to read this and hopefully provide some advice/insight. I know that every person is different, but generally, here's the situation. We just booked a vacation to Disney for Christmas week and I am so excited about it. At the same time though, I now weigh approximately 249 (although I've been on my protein shake diet for two days now). I am afraid that I won't be able to comfortably fit on the rides. (At 200 lbs four years ago, it was becoming a tight squeeze.) I was hoping to lose as much as 35-40 pound before December 22nd. I am aiming at November 7th for lap band, pending the surgeon's receipt of the approval which is apparently on its way. With applied effort, what do you guys think? Could that be a realistic goal??
  9. I am hopefully getting banded on November 7th. I'm still waiting on the insurance company to send over the approval to the surgeon. I am so excited. My thoughts and best wishes to all of us!!!!

    Hello from Spring, TX!!!!

Hi there. Your post came up when I posted mine as something similar. I'm also from Spring and waiting for approval for the lap band surgery with Dr. Wilkenfeld. I am aiming at November 7th. Any advice, thoughts, information is greatly appreciated, especially since you've been through his program. I'm going the protein shake portion of it now. How quickly did you lose the weight? How are you fairing today? Sorry for so many questions, I just want to have realistic expectations here. (-: I appreciate your time in responding!
  12. Just found the website and what a Godsend!!! I am waiting for insurance approval - MD said it may be as soon as this Wednesday. I am very excited to begin this journey and make some new friends along the way. Best wishes to all you!!!

    Hello from Spring Tx

Debbie, thanks so much for taking the time to respond and offer your words of encouragement. You know, it hit me about three weeks ago that I've spent an ENORMOUS amount of time negatively thinking/dieting/dealing with weight and I am so hopeful that taking this step will begin to put an end to that. I am very excited to get started!! Your weight loss is amazing!
