  1. nchaka, Susan speaks the truth. We both did great with Dr. Aceves. I've been an RN for over 2 decades and specialize in critical care so I watched everyone and everything like a hawk. LOL. I truly think the U.S. has a lot to learn from how things are done there. Certainly, the care was top notch!
  2. I was dissolving them up until last night. They taste horrible dissolved! I think the pill is too big to swallow whole so I took a scissor and cut that sucker right in half. It's not scored but the scissor halved it perfectly and made it possible to get down. Since I was not sure how it would split, I cut it inside a sandwich bag fearing it might crumble.
  3. Make mine honey turkey breast on rye with lettuce and light mayo!
  4. My secret weapon is Kelloggs lemon protein water. It comes in 16 oz bottles and has 50 cal and 5 g protein. I literally keep one in my labcoat pocket and store others in my office. When I'm out rounding, I am constantly sipping. The few carbs balance with the protein and keep me going. It tastes like a mild lemonaide and I found it with the breakfast bars. You might want to give a 4 pack a try.
  5. You should try a bunch of different protein powders before surgery to see what you like. I can't deal with the taste of ANY of them and got the OK to use Soy Slender but that's only 7-8 g protein and 70 cal in 8 oz. I hit post-op day 10 tomorrow and accepted that I would not be able to get in the required protein until I moved off of clear fluids.
  6. LOL, thanks Susan! I'm so ready to go to full fluids tomorrow. I can't look at another cup of broth! I've been baking for Easter today but never craved that kind of stuff. I'm a hot bread and butter person so it's nice to not have it in the house. What I have noticed is that things SMELL differently. I LOVE coffee but a freshly brewing pot of coffee in one of the units at work last night made me sick. It did not smell like coffee. I'm wondering if it's related to anesthesia. I've had general before but this was my first spinal/general. Being 9 days post-op, I would think anesthesia related events are over with. Hmmmm... perhaps I'm just weird. LOL. Happy shopping for your Easter full Fluid dinner!
  7. You're correct. I misread your post and attribute it to the lack of food. LOL. I got a whole 8 g of protein in yesterday.
  8. Sigh! Sigh! Sigh! And here I was so thrilled to be moving to full fluids early. I got email at work from WASA who delivered the "oh no you can't" news so, once again, it was chicken broth and a sugar free ice pop for dinner. Thankfully, working 14 hours last night kept me busy and I'm sleeping for a few hours today. Tomorrow, it's full Fluid day and I AM having that damn tomato Soup. LOL.
  9. Wasa was asked by the owner of this forum to provide that information because so many members were requesting it. If you have a problem with this, feel free to contact him (Alex) or an administrator (Susan). I see this is your 4th post. It might be wise to "look around" and review the forum before posting something that, while maybe not intended to, is insulting. Thank you and Happy Easter/Passover.
  10. The day after surgery I was up walking all over and on my laptop answering emails and even grading my students' papers. I started my post-op thread 2 days after surgery from Mexico. As for my cell phone, it picked up the American tower in the hospital so I could receive and make calls. The night in the hotel, I was on a Mexican tower so I could only text message and receive phone calls. Have you looked into renting or borrowing a laptop? You could always call the Dell people and tell then you want to cancel because they can't get the laptop to you in time. Chances are, they will send it in time rather than lose the sale. If not, cancel and go to Best Buy. You have your choice of MANY brands (love my HP) and can have it THAT day.
  11. I agree with you Susan. I wake up with nausea and a headache and it's related to the diet. You're at the one week mark so you too can advance to full fluids/mushies. Go for it! I bet some decent protein intake will make us both feel better.
  12. Susan, Reading this post from you was like getting a million dollars. LOL. I am DEFINITELY moving to full fluids for dinner and have my tomato soup packed for work. LOL. I think it's important to get the Protein in and for me, I've been lucky if I get 25 g /day in. THANK YOU!!!! Stacy P.S. I read over the post-op diet in the hospital but must have been under the influence of drugs. LOL.
  13. It felt like there was either someone cleaning, an RN checking wounds and vital signs, an MD checking on your status, or dietary bringing liquids throughout the day. LOL.
  14. It's post-op day 8 and I had no problems doing an 8 hour shift so, tonight, it's back to my regular 12.5 hour shift. I'm tired of the liquid diet but it's only prescribed for another 2 days so I'll survive. I never looked so forward to full fluids. LOL. Chewing gum helps ease the urge to chew.
  15. Maybe you and your friend could have surgery the same day! I work in a very large health care system and my speciality is critical care. I can't complain at all about the care I received in Mexico and the hospital was spic n spac clean. In the U.S. you certainly are NOT visited 3 times a day by your surgeon.
  16. I feel the same way. I told my sister and one other person I was getting banded and that's the way it stayed. When I went for my revision to a sleeve last week, the same 2 people knew. Others do well letting everyone know but for me, obesity has been a lifelong battle and I don't want to be scrutinized about my progress.
  17. I am SOOOOOOOOOO happy for you. You did the work and got the results and you're a role model for those of us who are working towards our own goals. I have NO doubt you'll be 100 years old and kicking ass!
  18. Hi Britt, The answer to your question really depends on a few things. Have you gotten to your goal weight with the band? You state that you were banded in 2006 so I'm wondering if you achieved your goal weight. You mention your "lowest weight" but that does not mean it's your goal weight. Are you sick of dealing with the band? For many people, dealing with fills, unfills, minor and major complications is too much and they come to a point where they don't want to deal with it anymore. Have you had any other problems besides this one? Pouch dilation usually requires 2 weeks of a liquid diet to shrink it. Are you willing to dip into savings to be a self-pay or are you prepared to do battle with your insurance company and get them to pay for a sleeve revision? It's a lot to consider but I'm sure you've been thinking about it before posting here. On a personal note, I had my band in the U.S. on 3/30/06 and did everything I was supposed to do but could do nothing to stop the heart burn and acid regurgitation. It got to the point where I was sleeping in a chair and taking big doses of Rx acid blockers. I DID reach the point where the quality of my life meant more to me than the band and I revised just a week ago to a VSG with Dr. Aceves. Susan revised the day after me. Like you, I had to use savings but I don't regret a thing and the care was great. Keep us posted on what you decide.
  19. I am not familiar with that surgeon but I'm sure someone else can comment. I can comment on Dr. Alberto Aceves as I had the revision to a VSG a week ago and had a great experience there.

  21. I would bet that you're going to see another loss on the scale soon. Keep us posted.
  22. I want to know too. I thought adding heat to protein made it coagulate. Yuck!
  23. Eating every 2-3 hours and taking in 4-5 ounces seems a lot to me. Have you tracked your caloric intake on The Daily Plate. com or another site? From reading the experiences of others, it's normal to actually gain a little during the soft diet phase so maintaining your weight is actually a good thing. I was told to limit meals to 3 per day once I get to the regular foods again (day 31 post-op). It seems you're now allowed to transition to a regular diet. THAT is when people notice the restriction and start losing again. Can you eat 4-5 oz of a chicken breast in one sitting?
  24. You're very welcome. I see no value for ME in not trying to get back to "normal" as soon as possible. It's important to get proper rest, follow the diet, and refrain from heavy lifting so I am definitely following post-op orders. I am sure some people recover faster than I do while others need more time. I am purposely staying off the scale until Sat AM when I move to full fluids.
  25. Twenty pounds is a LOT to lose in 2 weeks so maybe your body is on a plateau. It is unrealistic to expect to lose 10 pounds a week. You don't say how much you have to loose or what your current diet is... soft? As long as you follow the guidelines, the weight loss will happen.
