December 10, 2008 Band Date
Hey Rosey, My growlies subsided significantly as soon as I started the Benifiber. I wasn't such a hot mama but it won't be too long! I see the weather out your way isn't too good. It turned sharply colder today and tonight when I was driving I noticed the bank clock which sometimes measures 101+ degrees in the summer months was registering a balmy 41 degrees. I would say some of the 101+ degrees are attributable to reflected surface heat, I doubt there is much of that going on tonight. Brrr! Hope everyone stays warm.

December 10, 2008 Band Date
Hey Hey Hey. Reading back the posts I missed, I am glad everyone seems to be doing well and pounds are coming off. I haven't had a chance to post since my followup with Dr on Friday. Officially down 18 pounds! That matches the loss I figured at home. Yippeee! People are starting to notice and my clothes are getting loose! I feel great but I am hungry on the days when I haven't drank enough Protein. Having Benefiber definitely seems to have helped Yesterday (Saturday) my DH, DS and I went biking. It was alot of fun because it was beautiful weather. I have been walking at least 2 times a day and my feet have stopped hurting when I walk. Thank goodness!

December 10, 2008 Band Date
Hey Rosey, I am glad you surfaced! Sorry to hear you are feeling poorly. Nope I haven't had the chills. I am actually feeling really good today. DS and I just came back from a walk. We would have gone further but it started to sprinkle and rather than hear him complain about getting sprinkled on, we just took a short cut home. Sure felt good to get out and walk more than around the block. My growlies and gas were too much yesterday. I finally had it. I put on my thinking cap and decided the reason I had the growlies was because all of the antibiotics they had IV'd me wiped out all of the beneficial flora in my body. So I went down to the local grocery store in search of some acidophilus but there was none to be found. Instead I found something called "GoodBelly" which claimed to contain lots of Probiotics. Since it was in a drink form I thought I woudl give it a try. I also bought some kiefer. I drank about 2 "GoodBelly" drinks and a tiny bit of kifer. This morning I woke up without any growlies. The gas and colonblow has been reduced by about 90 percent. Hallelulia! I could have bought activia but that is too thick as I am still on a clear liquid diet. As it was the kiefer was thicker than it should have been and I watered it down. One last thing postitive thing.... When I left the hospital after surgrey I weighed 293. On the home scale it was 291. This morning my homescals said 280.5 Yipee!!! Goose, my doctor tells me that I can't have any caffeine because caffeine constricts blood vessels and inhibits healing. Hope everyone is feeling better and I will keep on the look out for big numbers after everyones body recovers from their surgery.

December 10, 2008 Band Date
Hi Week2ers, Hope you are all feeling good. Goose I hope you gas pains have subsided. I have a severe case of the "growlies". I don't feel hungry, though I felt more full yesterday, today I still have the full feeling most of the time. Mostly I have been eating broth with unflavored Protein. Yummy! Anyone else experiencing the "growlies"? Yesterday, I felt lots of gas pain in my sides. Today it isn't as obvious. I have pain around my port area and soreness through my midsection. Other than that I am doing really well. My biggest concern is that I have gained weight. I started the 3 day pre-op liquids at 286, on the morning I left for hospital was 281. The morning after I came home from the hospital I weighed 293!!!!!!! I know I some of it can be attributed to surgery but that seems excessive. Anyone else experiencing a weight gain?

Do you have a December Date?
Hi AuntGigi, Welcome to the group. I was banded 12/10 and am in the recover stage. I see you have a two week pre-op liquid diet. I only had to do a 3 day pre-op and I thought that was going to be tough. By the 3rd day, I was sure I could keep going on the liquid diet, because by then all of my hunger had passed. I think the thing that got me through the liquid diet was drinking protein. I had a protein shake every day and I drank protein water. If you keep your protein levels up that should help with the hunger. It sure helps me.

3 Days Post Op. Ow. Ow. Ow I'm DYING.
I was banded yesterday. Today I started to get the gas pains. When I came home from the hospital I laided on a heating pad. Seemed to get rid of some of the gas pains and I actually stated to pass gas rectally (TMI). Good luck. I am very surprised your doctor did not give you stronger pain meds for home. Mine sent me home with a script for liquid lortab and phenergan. You need to call your surgeon before you husband starts throwing up and his band slips. yuck! I feel for you and your pain. I hope you get some help.

What is your Age/Date/Weight/Location?
My name is Fran. I live in Florida. I am 50 years old. I was banded December 10th with Dr. Jeffrey Lord in Pensacola. I absolutely loved the whole surgical experience at Sacred Heart. The care was great and right now I couldn't be happier. High weight 296 Morning of Surgery 281 Goal 160-180 (I am six feet tall so I might be too thin at 160) Time will tell :wink2:

Rosey, Goose ---- so glad to hear you are doing well. Hope I continue to not have an appitite for many many weeks  I filled up on a popcicle and 2 ounces of broth today, sadly some of that fill up was probably the gas. Rest up!

December 10, 2008 Band Date
Hi Everyone! I changed my name so it was clearer. Fstop had to do with photography but everyone thought I was a guy for some reason. I am a photographer and definitely a female. Anyway! I had my surgery yesterday. Everything went well. I walked a bunch at the hospital and was feeling great today but tonight I am feeling a bit poorly. Gas pain on my sides. Of course my belly is feeling a bit bloated as well, but really not all that poorly. Glad to hear all of the good results of the people how have posted before me. For everyone who is to follow later I hope you have as good a care as I received at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

Do you have a December Date?
I will have to concur with Beth. The hula hoop is fun for a while. I bored pretty quickly after that. My seven year old son plays with it occationally but he mostly enjoys running in place because he passes people and in one place puppies which he calls "the puppy stampped". Mostly the wii fit sits on the shelf. I would like to know what others who have dance revolution think of it. That does look like fun from what I have seen.

Hi Goose, Sorry I haven't been around to post lately. I just saw your question about The Beck Diet Solution. It is a book written by a cognative psychologist. I have found it to be wonderful in helping me prepare for my new way of eating. I read about it on another forum and purchased an audio copy of the book from audible.com I am sure you can look at a copy of it at the local Barnes and Noble or Borders. Amazon has a write up about it as well. I am sure they have a website as well. Yep. www.beckdietsolution.com It is not a diet per se but teaching tool that helps you retrain yourself. I love it and think everyone should read or listen to it.

I did my pre-admit at the hospital yesterday. My surgery is the first one scheduled for the day 7:30 in the morning. I have to be there by 5:00 to get prepped. Yuck! According to the pre-admit nurse, thats the best slot to get because then you are in and out without any unforseen delays. I am sure she knows what she is talking about. Good luck to everyone else. I can't wait to compare stories :cursing:

December 10, 2008 Band Date
I am getting nervous as well. And the feeding frenzy continues. Though I can see that I have slowed down as I have eaten a few big meals they just don't appeal to me as much. I started listening to the Beck Diet Solution a few weeks ago and I really feel like it is helping to manage the head hunger.

2009 - New York City Banded Together-Lapband Talk National Event
How about a convention in Orlando? Great tourist destination and people can roll the conference into a vacation for themselves and their family. Even though I live in Florida I am still seven hours away from Orlando and love to travel there.

December 10, 2008 Band Date
I don't know what time my surgery is. I do know that I will be there overnight, which is fine. I live 1 hour from the hospital so I would rather be with them the first night in case there is a problem. I can not believe it is less than 4 weeks from yesterday. Is everyone doing lots of walking? I have been told getting moving before the surgery really helps in recovery.

Let's Choose a Name - Poll
Since there seems to be more people still showing up, I think we should wait at least one more week, if not two. Or maybe we should take the top 4 or 5 vote getters, and make it a single vote poll for a week or so.

Let's Choose a Name - Poll
I would have to agree with you, Carol. He would make a wonderfully adorable Slender Snowflake. Perhaps we could be "Slender Snowmen" and Pete (and myself and all the other southerners) can melt away in the warm winter sun. :rolleyes2: Fran
