    What foods stick?

with everyone it is different, you maybe able to eat things others can't. Rice does tend to get stuck, anything sticky, bread, dressing, try to avoid food that tends to expand it will cause discomfort, you will find it's going to be trial and error with trying to figure out what you can eat, the more fluid you have in your band the more restriction your going to have and you will find through different stages of you fill you will be able to eat something one time and them maybe you can't eat it again. just make sure you avoid what your doctor told you too. They gave me a list of foods to avoid when i had my surgery. make sure you stick to it, and you will learn quick what you can eat and what you can't, especially when you get the pain you get when something does get stuck, and you will learn really fast to avoid that food, I would avoid the california roll if i were you, i think you would have trouble getting it down, unless you can really cut it into very small pieces, but i think i would avoid it if i were you.. good luck
  3. You really do need to stick to the pre-op diet they put you on the diet for a good reason, and when the day of your surgery arrives they will be able to tell if you did stick to your diet. I work in surgery with a doctor who does do the lap band in fact he did my band, and if he was your doctor and he got in there and seen you hadn't followed your diet because your liver hadn't shrunk enough for them to put the band on he wouldn't do it he would say the liver is to large among other things, it wouldn't be a friendly wake-up in recovery. If you really want to change your life for the better go back on the diet and stick to it, and don't cheat on it. If you can't stick to this pre-op diet you are going to have a very difficult time sticking to your post-op diet and if you don't stick to the post op diet you are going to cause more harm than good. you are put on the post-op diet to give your band time to settle into place, if you eat things your not suppose to eat you can cause band slippage, cause your pouch to stretch or worse, trust me you do not want to have surgery again to correct what you have done, if the doctor will correct it, i've seen them just take the Fluid out of the band to let the band re-adjust and not put anymore fluid into it because people didn't follow the post-op diet and alot of times they won't give you a fill which gives you restriction and helps you to lose the weight until you can prove to them you are going to follow your diet. But while there is still time you need to follow what you are told if you do want to succeed with the surgery. the choice is yours and I do wish you all the luck! I have been banded for almost a year now and I wouldn't change it for anything in the world, it is well worth giving up foods your not suppose to eat and never drinking pop again even diet pop was worth giving up!!!!! Good Luck!

    Hello from WV

The whole thing isn't as bad as you think, the food your not even going to be hungry after your surgery, and just remember it is different with everyone, i never had any problems right after surgery, i felt fine. I wasn't hungry or even wanting to eat the junk food and i haven't ate junk since i've had the surgery, you will find out pretty quick what you can eat and can't eat, and the best thing you can do if you want to be successful is do what they tell you to do, i have seen many others that have had it done and eat anything that doesn't eat them and they haven't lost as much, we even have one girl who gets her band filled and finds out she cant' eat everything coming and going so she tells them she is vomiting so they will take some of the fluid out so she can go back to eating anything she want's. which i think is a waste of time, i would never change anything, i do not have one regret of having the lap band surgery done, i had mine done april 21 by Dr kaplan, and i was only the 4th one to have it done and the 1st one he done by himself, but i trust him, and he's a good doctor, he will help you out any way he can, you will find the same with lyndsey the dietician, and jeannie morris the CRNP who will see you for your 1st 6 months for your precertification for surgery. :tongue_smilie: you won't be sorry you had it done. :tt1: if you ever need to talk to someone or have any questions just ask and i will gladly help you any way i can. It's very nice to meet you and can't wait till you get banded.....
  7. It will get much easier as time passes, and just think in the long run it is all worth it.. Dr kaplan did my surgery on april 21, 2008.

    Dr. Kaplan

Dr. Kaplan is a good doctor, he did my banding in April and I have never looked back since I have had it done. He will help you anyway he can, when you are having problems all you have to do is call him. You will find he is very caring. with bc/bs you need a referral and you see a dietician for 6 months and of course you have a psych eval. But it goes by quickly and is well worth the wait.
