?ctober ?dyssey 2008
Several people have compared the pain to a c-section. And, the BEST advice I got from my Lamaze coach was (she was preparing us, if we had to have a c-section, which I did) the first chance you get to stand up, to stand up as straight and tall as you can. And, to do this every time you stand up. Not to walk around all hunched over. Doing that does nothing to help get your muscles back in whack. So, I did it. All the nurses were SOOOO impressed with me. But, I was ready to get my catheter out, and she told me that I had to be able to walk to the bathroom to get it out. So, I was going to stand up and walk, like a Pro, no matter what. But, I have no CLUE what I am talking about, when it comes to banding surgery and the pain. I mean a c-section is lower abdominal and this is upper. But, I don't think it could hurt to stand up straight.

Military Smashing Pumpkins?
Sort of the same boat here. We have been in 6 years and never deployed. He did get a deployment order right after I got pregnant, and a guy in his office volunteered to take his place. That was to Iraq. Then this time, his 1st shirt, asked him what number round he was, because he was probably going to get picked and sent to Iraq. So, he told him to go volunteer for Kygerstan. Which he did! It's a lot safer. They have an actual AFB, with dorms, bx, gym, bar, Internet cafe, and they can even leave the base with groups and a Msgt. or higher. The best part or at least he thought so. Was he got 4 new uniforms, 2 pairs of boots, and a full set of Gortex Winter gear. He said he has the best skiing outfit he has ever own!

Military Smashing Pumpkins?
Air Force Wife Here! My Husband is deployed right now. He will be back in late January. Only 120 day deployment for Air force. Thank you God. I really feel for the other service branches and their families. To get the glittery thing. Click on someone else's glittery tag...like Mine! And it will take you to the web-site to make it. Then you copy and paste the BB code option into your signature, under the User CP options. Let me know if you need more help!

I'm so depressed, I think this was the worst mistake ever.
I agree. I think your body may need more calories for as active as you are. I lose in stair steps, meaning I don't lose every week, but Every other week or even third week. I also find that if I have a high calorie day during the week, I tend to lose more. But, I am not banded yet. And, I really think banding is a tool, it's not the answer or solution. At least that is how I am approaching it. I wish you success and happiness. Make healthy choices and think positive!

Will I be able to...
Thanks for all the responses! I think we are going to have to get creative around here! I think I can herd her around the house, if we are on the 1st story. I think I can get her to hug my neck and I can just drag/pick her up out of the crib, w/o bending and lifting. Now, getting her into the highchair and bath tub. I haven't figured those out yet. I am POSITIVE it will all work out.

?ctober ?dyssey 2008
My Husband is deployed right now, and I am living with my parents. I would never of been able to even consider having lap-band surgery w/o my parents support. We are still trying to figure out how me not being able to pickup my 1 yo daughter, is going to work out, if one of them can not be at home. But, once he gets back at the end of January, I will probably be back in Montgomery, Alabama @ Maxwell AFB. YUCK!

ACK! I hope everything is OK for you. I am anemic as well. (My IUD makes me spot all the time.) Never had to be hospitalized for it. I take one of those hemo super iron pills everyday. I hope they don't keep me longer, after my surgery!! I feel for you! I read an article in the October "Eating Well" magazine and it was about DHA and Iron levels in people. (The article was called Brain Food.) They did a study where women with normal iron levels and anemic women took tests. The anemic women typically were slower taking the test and did poorer. But, I have been so not myself for the last year. Making decisions seemed harder, and being able to recall vocabulary words sometimes was impossible. So, I am blaming it all on being anemic! You can too!

Who are you telling?
I too have a huge mouth, and thought I would shout it from the roof tops. But, I really haven't told that many people. My Husband is deployed overseas right now, and I am staying with my parents. My Husband, Parents, and My Mother-in-law know. And, a few Mom's from my daughter's play group know. But, that's it. And, it's so weird. I don't feel compelled to tell everyone, either. So very not like me.

?ctober ?dyssey 2008
Hi Everyone! I wanna be a pumpkin too! Surgery date is set for October 21st! I am in the Dallas area, and Dr. Cribbins is doing my surgery. Doing my 2 week pre-op diet right now. It's going fine. I really can't complain. I got approved very quickly so the two week diet snuck right up on me! On Monday night, my Mother said "When do you start the diet?" After, I replied, she looked at me and said, "You do realize that two weeks is tomorrow, right?" YIKES!!! So, I didn't have any time to worry about it. Just do it.

Any October Bandsters!??!?!
Hello Everyone! My surgery date is October 21st. I am still in total shock. I went to a seminar on September 20th and was approved by my insurance 3 days later on October 3rd. I didn't even find out till the next Monday, because the office had been too busy to call me!! 48 hours for a YES! I can't believe it. But, it is TRICARE South. And, when the patient coordinator walked in the room, she said "I LOVE TRICARE! You qualify, so I will probably get an approval in less than 5 days." I never believed her for one second. I spent almost an entire year, 5 years ago trying to get approved for Gastric Bypass surgery with Cigna. I was heart broken and defeated after that, and did not ever want to try again. But, when I found out that TRICARE started paying for Lap-band surgery earlier this year. I thought I would see what happens. Never did I think this would come to fruition. Sorry... still shocked and happy.

Vitamin d defiency
You can also spend 15mins. in the sun 3 times a week. (This is what they recommend for children, so it couldn't hurt adults!) That will help with your Vitamin D replenishment. That's how our body makes it naturally. But, I take a calcium + D supplement daily, too. Sam's club has big bottles that are relatively cheap in comparison. I get all my supplements there.

HELP! When can I sleep 'normal' again?
Same thing happened to me when I had a c-section. I couldn't sleep in my bed with my husband for weeks it seemed. Honestly, I can't remember how long it was exactly, but it was at least two weeks. And, even then sleeping on my side on my back hurt a lot. Those darn abdominal muscles.
