  1. HI everyone, my name is Susie and my surgery is scheduled for May 14th (just like yours, Trish)! I'm starting my pre-op diet on April 30th. 2 weeks, high protein / low carb diet. I'm planning on using Slim Fast and / or GNC Protein shakes. I've tried the Unjury (a friend had surgery in Feb, I tried all of her flavors) and I prefer the GNC chocolate caramel, it really is good.
  2. Hi everyone, my name is Susie and I'm scheduled for my surgery on May 14th with Dr. Kirschenbaum in Denver, CO. I live in Atlanta and I'm flying to Denver because I am self pay. Is anyone else using Dr. K in May? I start my pre-op April 30th. We're all so lucky to have this opportunity in our grasps. I'm so excited!
  3. Good luck, QuincyGirl. I'm scheduled for my surgery on May 14th and I'm getting excited. We'll be in that great "loser's club" soon! Pre-op diet starts April 30th for me.
  4. I actually found out about Dr. K on this website. I did alot of research before making my decision. It's alot easier to get aftercare if you have your surgery in the U.S. also. Parrothead: you should send me an email. I have found another patient of True Results in Conyers, she had her surgery about 2 months ago. Her name is "Cathy" too, lol. We should all get together sometime :glare:
  5. I'm self pay too and I live in Atlanta. I'm traveling to Denver May 14th for my surgery. Dr. Gerald Kirschenbaum offers the surgery for $9950. It's anywhere from $15 to $20K here in Atlanta. Good luck!
  6. I can't believe my band date is creeping up so fast. I'm excited and nervous at the same time, I'm pretty sure that's normal. I've been walking a mile a few times a week, I know I should do more. I'm proud of myself for holding my own in PE class. I did 20 push ups and 43 crunches in 1 minute. Better than some of those youngsters in my class! Just wait til I'm in "Onederland", they won't be able to stop me then! I've got my plane reservations, my rental car and my hotel reservations for Denver. Still need to make my shopping lists for pre-op and post-op. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 3 weeks til pre-op diet!!!

  8. Thanks Julie.Ann. I'll definitely make my reservation there.
  9. Hi, I'm looking for suggestions on which hotel to book that's close to Crown Point Surgery Center. My main concerns are comfortable beds and cleanliness. Any suggestions? Thanks, Susie
  10. Welcome Devein, sounds like you're doing great with your band. My surgery is scheduled for May 14th. What part of Georgia are you in? What surgeon did you use? Keep up the great work!
  11. Yep, I'm back in PE class two nights a week. This course will satisfy the PE requirement for graduation. I'm going to be power walking 2 nights a week with the class and then I have to log when I exercise out of class. We're also gonna do a physical fitness "assessment", haha, to tell me how out of shape I'm in. I wonder if they'll let me take it again one year post lapband? I'm actually glad I took this class right before surgery because it's gonna kick my butt into starting my exercise program again. Now I'll be a little in shape before surgery.

  13. Congratulations on your success Bigmomma! I will be banded by Dr. K on May 14th and I can't wait to follow in your footsteps. You'll have to change your lapbandtalk screen name soon!

  15. I'm new to this "blogging" thing, but I'm gonna give it my best shot. I'm on a mission to get healthy, and beautiful along the way would be so nice. I'm a 43 y.o. mom of 4 young men. One of which is making me a grandma in August. Another reason to get healthy. I've been researching the lapband procedure for over a year and have scheduled my surgery for May 14, 2009. I have to wait that long because I'm in nursing school and that will be the end of the semester. I will be flying from Atlanta to Denver to see Dr. Kirschenbaum. (total $9950) It's a savings of around $3500 overall and being self pay every little bit helps. My BMI is currently 36 and I have about 90 pounds to lose. I have plantar fascitis, arthritis pain in my hips and knees and I suffer with depression. I'm hoping all these things will resolve with weight loss. I'm planning to start a high protein, low carb diet two weeks prior to surgery. The hardest thing for me is going to be giving up those dang diet cokes! I'm planning on using Atlanta Bariatrics for my follow up and fills. Problem is they won't even make me an appointment until after they see my operative report. Then they'll decide if they'll take me on as a patient. So, hopefully no complications!

  17. Thanks Tomster, I was concerned about the gas worsening on the plane as well. All in the name of getting healthy. I'll definitely arrange for a wheelchair. Good luck to you
  18. Thanks for all the replies on traveling home from Colorado. I already have a reservation for the evening after surgery. I tried to change it, but they want another $275 to do that. So, I'll travel home the next night after surgery and request a wheelchair, carry a shoulder bag and move around the plane cabin frequently. Thanks for everyone's help! Lapband people are the best!
  19. Has anyone had any trouble on their flights home after surgery? My flight is around 5PM the following day. Also, was it difficult walking through a large airport right after surgery? I'll be flying into Atlanta, mega-huge airport. Thanks!
  20. Warren, I'll be coming from Conyers. If you could email me directions to szbrown@bellsouth.net I'd really appreciate it. Thanks, Susie
  21. HI Dee Dee, welcome to our forum. I'm Susie, I live in Conyers. My surgery is scheduled for May 14th and I can hardly wait for that day to arrive. I'm self pay and I will be flying to Denver, CO to have my surgery with Dr. Gerald Kirschenbaum. These forums are a wonderful source of information.
  22. When is the next meeting? I'm very interested in joining you all. I'm not familiar with John's Creek so could you tell me how to get there also. Thanks!
  23. Good luck Sommerbrez and Vala on your upcoming surgeries! Please keep us posted on how everything is going for you.
  24. redcat...my BMI is 36 and I also have depression and back pain, hip pain, etc (arthritis). My insurance plan doesn't cover any weight loss surgery. I'm going to Colorado for my surgery because the self pay cost in Georgia is too high. I will get my follow up care in Atlanta. You can email me and I'll give you the details. szbrown@bellsouth.net
  25. Good luck, redcat. Nice to know I'm not the only one in Conyers obsessed with this website. It's so informative. My surgery is scheduled for May 14th. It'll be here before I know it. I was signed up for the informational seminar with Dr. Hart last week but I canceled after I found out my insurance won't cover weight loss surgery. I'll be traveling to Colorado to see Dr. Kirschenbaum for my surgery.
