  1. Hi - Could you tell about your hair loss experience after surgery- when/how much/ and when it tapered off? Also, did it all come back eventually? I’ve lost hair in the past after a stressful time and it came back in a few months so wonder if that will be similar. Thanks for your replies!
  2. Thank you- I’m looking into the chewables. I love a chew but am really tired of lingering sweets in my mouth after all the protein shakes.
  3. Thanks- good advice. I’ll need to road test probably based on follow up blood work if that’s how my surgeon determines proper nutrition levels.
  4. Could you please share your favorite supplements brand for multi vitamins/iron/calcium and why they’ve worked best for you? I need to order some and am confused between chews (like Starbursts?) and liquid (better absorption?) and chewables (chalky?). I care most about proper absorption bc I’m having gastric bypass and want to keep my levels healthy. Thanks all!
  5. Congrats! I’m having my RNY at NYU (acronyms!) next week! Which surgeon did you work with? I’m with Dr. Tchokouani who was very calm, friendly and attentive at our meeting. I hope the healing goes well!
  6. Hi- I’m in day 2 and so far it hasn’t been too hard, but very dull flavors. I’ll likely get more creative but the main thing that has helped is to stay busy with work, walks, friends, movies and NOT look at any food commercials or posts. I caught a glimpse of nachos and had to talk myself down ?
  7. Could any of you share the amount of weight you lost during the 2 week pre-op liquid diet? I’m curious because I’d started eating must healthier once I had my first consult with surgeon and dropped about 14 lbs leading up to my liquid pre-op diet over the course of 3 months…slow but steady. What happens if you fall below the 40 BMI requirement for insurance? I didn’t think to ask the nurse/dietitian when I went in for my work-up. On day 2 of pre-op diet now and think I’ll never want the taste of real chocolate again after this.
  8. Thank you for the thoughtful and helpful response! I did get some sugar free pops and jello though my 13 yo already broke into them!
  9. Hi- are you on 4-6 protein shakes/day too? So monotonous. I made bone broth and a cup of broccoli for dinner last night and it was so bland that I started experimenting with pickles and banana peppers as seasoning (not sure if that’s fair game but I’m allowed veggies). Any fatigue? I’m a little spacey but just trying to stay busy.
  10. great input from all of you- thank you! I’ll lean heavy on the protein shakes and do veggie dinners. I appreciate the reminder that it’s connected to the surgeon’s ability to do their job with best outcome…team effort. Thank you again…
  11. I’m starting my 2 week liquid diet on 4/12 and feeling unsure I’ll be able to manage it. My RNY is 4/26 and the nutritionist is allowing me any and all non-starchy vegetables but dear lord…will bone broth and protein shakes hold down the beast within?? I’ve lost about 13 lbs since January with just very clean high protein eating. HW- 276 CW- 263 and 5’8”. Why do some programs allow lean chicken at dinner and others are so adamant about liquids/purées? Anyone have any tips/tricks to get thru this period? Very excited for this lifestyle turnaround! Thanks in advance for any advice :)
  12. My surgery date was bumped from 04/17 to 04/26. I was pretty upset for about 15 minutes but the surgeon had to reschedule his day. I had just started the liquids that morning and when I got off the phone with the coordinator I made myself eggs with avocado and hot sauce. I like having the extra sets to prep myself mentally and gather my proteins and liquids. So, onward and upward for the 26th!
  13. New here! April 17th for RNY…liquid diet starts April 3rd
