    Pre-Surgery

  2. Hi everyone! I am doubting that my insurance will pay for the lap band, I am being a little negative but I know how they fight paying for anything, Who has self paid here in MIchiang and which Dr.'s were good to work with. I live in Clarklake close to Lansing or Ann Arbor. Thank you!
  3. Hi everyone, I had my surgery done in Detroit, and it is a 2 hour drive for fills. I live in Clarklake, near Jackson. I hope to find a Dr. closer. Thank you!
  4. Hi all! I just had my first fill, but I am definately not getting full as I hoped I would be from my meals. I have a 10cc band and they put in 5cc's. I have lost 12-14 lbs right during the preop and right after surgery, but I completely stuck now (for 3 weeks). I intend to start exercising more over the coming weeks. One drawback to not being allowed to have Diet Coke, is drinking more skim milk. I know it's good for you, but still liquid calories:redface: Anybody else out there with a lower BMI take a while to really start losing well?
  5. Thank you! I don't suppose you would have a number for me to call:) Yes, Hillsdale is close, that makes it a lucky day!!
  6. Thanks everyone! I hope fill #2 tames the beast a little more. I do know that I am taking in a lot less than I was before, so it sort of blows me away that the weight doesn't come off - exercise or not. I ate an entire grilled chicken sandwhich at Big Boy with a couple of my sons FFs. I was satisified (for about 3 hours), but I think I should have been FULL! Not that the FULL sensation is what I am looking for, but I would think that after half of the sandwich I should have not been able to finish the rest. Well at the end of the month is another fill, and I will just try to make good choices. I have another question if anyone has time to anser:confused: Do you have to have a couple of sips of Water with a meal (meaning 2-3) or are you all eating without a drop until a half hour later? How do you cope with dry mouth?
  7. Congrats! That's what I like to hear now that i have done this thing! How long after surgery did it take for your scars to heal, and are they noticable? Thats certainly not a huge concern, but I am curious if they go away? Way to go!!
  8. Hi Sharty, I am sorry that you cannot eat and I hope that it goes away soon for you. I had my surgery on the 17th too. They were going to let me leave after the surgery if my pain was below a 5 - needless to say they kept me until the next morning. The pain was terrible after surgery and they gave me Morphine. I realized that it was not the incisions that hurt, that is was the pressure of the gas that hurt. 7 days out, my incisions look good and don't hurt much but my tummy area is swollen and weird (like I couldn't suck in if I tried) and I have been having pains in my lower tummy area on the right side - I can't figure out what is even down there that is related to surgery, I think it may be gas too. I wish you well, keep us posted.

    Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Hi Renita, My son is on the Autism Spectrum too and that was my biggest fear. What if something happens to me and I am not there to take care of him. Everyone in my family loves him to pieces, but they don't know how to manage him quite like Mommy does! But we made it through so all is well  I don't have a temperature, but my port incision is a little warm. Anyone else have a warm icision without pain or fever?

    Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Hi everyone! I just wanted to check in and say hello. I am on day 3 of the preop diet. Hungry and Cranky, but looking forward to this Friday. I am around 37 BMI (I have lost a little on the preop so maybe 36 but...) I am so tired of everyone at work telling me I am being extreme, I just want to say, do you tell someone who buys a pop up camper, or a nicer car than they really need, or botox, or expensive clothes that they are extreme (money wise I mean) I am so done with food cravings controlling me and eating more than I should because it feels good for a couple of minutes. I want to be a healthy weight again and eat when I am hungry and only enough to make me full! Good luck to those upcoming this week, and I wish lots of restful thoughts to those recovering.
  11. Hello, thanks for the PM. I hope being lower BMI will not mean that we don't lose very quickly :) When do you start your preop (sorry if you have already said, I have been flipping all around the net tonight

    Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Hi everyone ! It's good to hear from people who have had the surgery (last year and doing well) and who have already had their surgery this month. I too hope I am a, "I feel great" after the surgery person, but I have a week 10 days off just in case. I have a 3 yr old son, and after my C-Section I felt really good, so maybe:crying: I have to start my pre-op on the 12th. I am very worried about that. I can do low carb, even lower calorie, but I am supposed to have protein shakes for breakfast and lunch. I will be starving by dinner time. I have a 36.5 BMI, so I only have to do it for a week, but I am very nervous. If you stay low carb, low fat and you go over the 800 calories would it still make your liver fatty? Well, congrats to everyone who has already done and good luck to the rest of us! I know the average is 50-75% of excess weight, and I am so used to my efforts not being sucessful that I am almost scared to want the 75-100%. But I am self pay and I will think very carefully with each meal.
  13. Thank you for the reply:thumbup: I am having my surgery on Oct 17th at the Great Lakes Medical Center. It's getting close... Good luck.

    Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Thank you to Lori and Bridgette!! I left out the part before the IMG and it worked. I was actually crusing the baby aisle for things I might eat after surgery - it sort of feels surreal! Just a thought - who has to stay overnight at the hospital? I think I have a 23 hour stay. I am sort of hoping to go home late that night as my sugery is at 8:30 in the morning.

    Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Hi again  I thought I was computere literate, but I cannot find any instructions on how to add the tickers! I went to tickerfactory and there is a BBCode and HTML code. I tried adding to my signature and when I preview it is just the code, not the ticker. If anyone has a minute to tell me exactly where to put the code I would love to make my profile pretty. Thanks:thumbs_up:

    Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Hi Bridgette, I saw the book mentioned in this thread, so hopefully it will arrive soon. I am so very excited!! Ok, feeling silly here but, I managed the picture and I can't figure out how to add the WL ticker? I mdae one, but where do you put it? And if anyone doesn't mind helping, is Smashing Pumpkins the theme for the October bandsters? Thanks much!

    Any October Bandsters!??!?!

 Hi everyone, I have made a couple of posts, but mostly lurking!! I decided not to fight with the insurance companie and do a self pay. I am close to Great Lakes Medical so I am going that route. I am a little worried about spending my savings with all of the financial woes in the news. I am a lower BMI I guess 36-37. I only have to do a week pre-op and my surgery is Oct 17th! I am have a good response from mostly everyone, but a few people tell me it is extreme. I have thought about it for two years now, and it's the right choice. I would love to set my signature up. If you make a ticker for your weight loss, how to you add it? And is October the Smashing Pumpkins? I wouldn't mind adding a picture as well. It's great to see so many of us are making the plunge in October! I am a worried that the protein diet before surgery is going to be hard, I am hungry all of the time :cursing: I am also worried that the weight is going to be very slow for me. Of course giving up Diet Coke hasn't happened yet, but will very soon. And the thought of no more pasta, even in small amounts is a little sad (but worth it). I just ordered the book I keep seeing on here. Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band by Robert W. Swell from Half.com. Ok, I am rambling and I want to work on the signature. Good Luck everyone and I hope we will all be healthy and have more confidence in the near future~!~!

Hello, I haven't contact Great Lakes yet, but I think I am going to do the self pay there, but it is a very long drive for fills. I am not too far from Hillsdale, how much are the fills there? Does Dr. March do a self pay option. I am still in the beginning stages of choosing where to go. Thank yoU!

    Hello from Josie in Michigan!

Hi Stacy, thanks for the reply! I did not think I would be eligible before and since then I gained another 5lbs since last year, I wish I would have started the process then. I want to start losing since the glcuophage makes me less hungry but I am aftraid if I lose any more than 5-10 lbs that my BMI will be under 35 and they will deny me then. What a mess! I feel caught in the middle of the road. Well, patience is key I guess. Take care Stacy!
