NikkiRose89 reacted to LindsayT in 5days post op- Help with symptoms: normalTry a body pillow or regular pillow under your tummy. I went from using a wedge pillow to sleep in more of an incline, to the body pillow, then a regular pillow. I've been sleeping fine on my side for about a week. My rny was may 1.

NikkiRose89 reacted to LindsayT in May Surgery DatesI'm having RNY May 1st.
I start my pre-op diet Monday [emoji15] It's coming so fast, but I'm excited.

NikkiRose89 reacted to Blessd1 in So scared and almost to schedulingI completely empathize with you! I would say we would have to be crazy if we weren't at least a little scared or apprehensive! I just had my preop consent visit, labwork, and preop diet products picked up on 3/8. The next stop is RNY bypass on 3/29. I'm excited and very nervous all at once. I keep saying to myself "Are you sure about this?" But, as soon as I remember for even a second my original WHY...that anxiety melts away, and I have a big smile dreaming about the ways my life and health will change for the better.
YOU GOT THIS! Take care of your mental health and do some things now to help you feel prepared. That helps a lot! I also believe God will walk us through this to the other side - stay strong!

NikkiRose89 got a reaction from Blessd1 in So scared and almost to schedulingI am getting close to scheduling my RNY. I had my endoscopy the beginning of the month and go 3/6 for final appointment. I am having the fear/anxiety about what if I don’t wake up. I have had a lot of stress lately. My aunt (66) just had a stroke earlier this month and I have a 5 year old at home who is very active.
I wanna have this surgery for my health and to be around to see my son grow up and do more things with him and my husband and not be so out of breath or not able to because of pain, heart palpitations or shortness of breath. But I’m having the anxiety and fear of not being around for it.
Normal? How do I fix my thoughts? I am a believer and I give God full control but anxiety is still creeping in.

NikkiRose89 reacted to catwoman7 in So scared and almost to schedulingpretty normal fear - I'm guessing most of us had similar thoughts before going under the knife.
However, the mortality rate on RNY is 0.3%. Those are actually excellent odds - lots of common surgeries - like hip replacement surgeries, for example - are less safe than RNY. Years ago weight loss surgeries were pretty risky, but they're just not anymore. Techniques have changed, and they're so common it's almost become a routine surgery. Anyway, at those odds, you have a 99.7% chance of sailing through just fine - and you will.
your chances of a premature death by staying obese are actually much greater than dying from the surgery.
