  1. Hello All, I'm pretty scared, so bear with me on this. I am now 7 months post op RYGB and at my 3 month post op, my liver enzymes were mildly elevated but my ferritin was around 600, at 6 months now, my enzymes are AST 96, ALT 105, Ferritin 1022. I am with a doctor now and watching them every 2 weeks, I'm also getting a liver biopsy on Monday, and to say the least, what I read on the internet is scary as heck, about liver failure. I had a rough first 6 months with a lot of nausea and was not able to get as much protein as I wanted and I lost on the high end of the weight loss curve. I know I had fatty liver before the surgery for some time, but again, liver enzymes were upper end of normal. Can you all let me know if any of you have had this experience? I heard they can be elvevated for some time due to the rapid weight loss, but mine are not coming down as of yet. Thanks. Laura
  2. Hi Jenny-bug- Thanks for your reply on this. My biopsy showed I have Nash but since starting a different diet to help stabilize weight and exercise more, my enzymes have started to come down, now in the 50"s and ferritin is now around 500. If you don't mind sharing, how high did your ferritin get before it came down to normal and how high did your enzymes get and now? Thanks so much, this last month has been extremely stressful, Laura

    Dealing with gastroparesis

Hi Desertblue- I know this is a very old thread, 7 years, but I thought I'd take a chance. I had RNY about 6 months ago and I have had awful nausea that lasts a good 24 hours depending upon what I eat. My surgeon is thinking I have gastroparesis. I had a barium swallow and ruled out stricture and ulcer. I feel terrible pretty much all the time after eating. Was wondering if you could share how you have handled this. Thank you for your thoughts. Laura

    Unable to tolerate meat!?!?

Hi Paiytin, I see this post was 4 years ago, but thought I'd reach out as I'm 7 weeks out from surgery and get sick/nauseous all the time from food. I have a horrible time trying to digest meet, it will sit in my stomach for 24 hours making me sick. My surgeon is saying the same as yours did, you have to push through it and take the anti nausea pills. I was curious how long this lasted for you and if things corrected course? Any info you can provide would be great. I find this community to be so helpful. Was there anything that got you through this phase? I'm starting to become afraid of eating because I don't want to feel nauseous all the time. Also, happy holidays! Laura
  5. I'm currently 7 weeks post op and trying to figure out why I have been nauseous after eating and drinking since week 3 (and it's getting worse). I'm thinking a stricture, but I also have a feeling an ulcer could possibly be the problem? I have a really bad reaction to PPI's so I've been on H2Blockers twice a day since surgery. Unfortunately, I've been on them for 10 months prior for GERD and their effectiveness wears off over time. So..........I'm worried I could have developed an ulcer. My nausea is getting a lot worse (started to be nauseous to just harder food, now its all food and water) and I have to take Zofran every day. I have an appt. with a surgeon next week (my surgeon is on maternity leave). I'm hoping to at least get an upper GI series to see if they can see anything. I don't have much pain with this, so just wondering if most people had pain with ulcer or just nausea or both? Were there other symptoms? Thanks to everyone reading this. I'm really at that point of regretting my surgery but I'm telling myself to hang in there. Laura
  6. HI Everyone, I'm relatively new here but hoping someone might be able to help provide me some guidance. I'm 7 weeks post op and been nauseous since week 3 but the nausea has gotten worse. I've been suspecting a stricture but my surgeon does not believe it. While I can get water and food down, it feels like sits in my stomach forever and I have nausea every time I eat. The other night, I tried upping what I ate because I'm not getting enough protein. Mind you, I ate slow and small amounts. I was super nauseous that night and all day yesterday. Now every time I eat or drink anything, my stomach is gurgling. Especially with water, like it's trying to get through stuck food sitting in my stomach. My surgeon is on maternity leave and won't be back until February, so I'm going to see another surgeon in her office (that doesn't do bariatric surgery but acid reflux surgery) on Tuesday of next week. Can you tell me if an upper GI would diagnose a stricture? I've also thought it could be an ulcer but I don't have much pain, just nausea. Any thoughts would be great! I'm so miserable right now and at that "I wish I had not done this" stage. : (. Thanks. Laura
  7. Is the GERD feeling burning or regurgitation?
  8. Hi Catwoman7- Weird question for you but do you remember if you had a lot of burping with the stricture? I burp all the time after I drink and eat. It often clears the nausea a bit but was wondering if you had that. Thank you again for all your responses. Laura
  9. Hi KymmieDS- yes, I have had pretty normal bowel movements since this started except my atoll can get a little hard sometimes so I take a stool softener. I have one at least every 2 days and sometimes everyday. laura

    Trouble eating food after bypass

Hi Layla, I saw your post from earlier this year. I'm at the same place you were. I'm 7 weeks out and it seems everything I eat make me nauseous for a couple hours. Sounds like you might have been similar? I was wondering if you are still having issues or if you have been able to move up to regular food at this point and feel good? I hope you have but any information would be hepful to me as I'm starting to wonder if I have a stricture or something. Thanks! Laura
  11. Thanks for the info. Yours was an anostomotic stricture at the duodenum too? I know some people get it at the stoma. I appreciate your responses. Helps me in understanding how to talk to the surgeon next week.
  12. Hi catwoman - do you remember the period of time when this started to when you could no longer keep down food? I’ve been going through this for a month.
  13. I’m learning new everyday. I assumed if food got past the esophagus and into the stomach, it wouldn’t come back up given the size of the stoma. Sounds like yours would. Wow! So glad you got that fixed so easily. I hear a lot of people get nausea too. When I’ve been trying to vomit, I only get a lot of saliva and mucus up. Maybe that is what they refer to as the foamies. 😂
  14. Thanks for the info. I hope we can figure this out. Appreciate it.
  15. Are you nauseous all day or just when you eat and drink? It was first when I was eating harder foods but now it’s starting to be after drinking too. I just don’t understand why it’s getting worse. I hope you find some relief too.
  16. Hi stt77, so sorry you are having a hard time too. This is awful. Do you just take anti nausea all day? I’m on zofran but it doesn’t work well. I’m hoping to get some answers soon. Will update after my appt next week. Happy holidays. I will be eating very little, just like Thanksgiving.
  17. Hi greenttealael- i think my stricture would be at where the intestine and stomach go together (if I have one) because I can swallow ok. But the food seems to sit there forever. Monday I tried to eat more regular food and I was nauseous again in about 20 minutes and when I woke up the next day I was nauseous all day. I spent the afternoon dry heaving into a trash can because nothing comes up. If I stick to mushy the nausea passes in a couple hours. I used to be able to drink fine. Now even water is making me nauseous. Where was your structure? glad you got it fixed! Thanks for the reply. laura
  18. Thank you so much!! If it works to keep me feeling better all day, I will be happy. I just really want to find out why it is happening! I don't want to take nausea meds the rest of my life. Did you have nausea bouts with your surgery?
  19. Hi toodlerue- I have Zofran but it doesn't work great. Any ideas of better meds? That is all they would offer me so far but I could ask at my appt. next week. So frustrated but thanks for your reply. : ) Laura
  20. Thank you for that idea! I am going to suggest this to him on Tuesday because I'm miserable. They keep saying it will get better in time but they have done nothing to know if it is something structural. Considering I'm at 7 weeks and have had all the symptoms for 4 weeks this is ridiculous! Thanks so much again for responding, I so appreciate you!
  21. I'm sorry Kcuster83, I meant an upper GI series barium swallow. Since my surgeon is out, they can't do the endoscopy. I'm so frustrated. Thanks for replying, did you have a stricture?

    Help with nausea?

Thanks for your detailed reply Laura. I'm so sorry to hear how awful all of that was for you but I'm so happy you had a good doctor that could figure it out. Yes, I'm hoping to have the x-rays etc., as my nausea is happening when I eat and some when I drink. From everything I've heard this sounds like a stricture but my surgeon is on maternity leave and has completely negated what I've said and just says it will get better. Unfortunately, it's getting worse. I'm seeing another surgeon in her practice next week. Will let you know what I find out. Thanks again so much!

    Help with nausea?

I hope you are doing much better, did your nausea every go away? I'm 7 months post op and I've had nausea since week 3. I only have Zofran and my surgeon isn't overly helpful. What medication did they up for you? Thanks. Laura

    Help with nausea?

Hi Laura, I've been very nauseous and wondering if I'm dehydrated since week 3. I've tried to get all my liquids and usually don't go below 50 oz. How did you know you were so dehydrated? I've been looking for the signs but wonder if I need bloodwork to really know. I hope you are still doing well. I'm at that "I think I'm regretting it stage". Thanks. Laura

    Help with nausea?

Hi There, I'm about 7 weeks out and have been nauseous after eating since week 3. It started before Thanksgiving and has only gotten worse. Did yours ever go away? They are telling me the same thing, that "it will go away" but I'm afraid I have a stricture or ulcer of something. I haven't really been able to go past soft foods because when I try to graduate up to solid foods, my nausea is worse. Last night, I tried again and my nausea lasted through today. This has been terrible. I have an appt. next week to see if they will do some radiology to make sure I don't have a stricture or ulcer but I feel for you as well having this everyday. Any update on how you are and what prompted your nausea everyday would be really helpful. Did you ever get any radiology?
