Ugh, that's a pretty strict pre-op. Mine isn't quite as strict, but close. I can either do 3 protein shakes or two protein shakes and a lean meat and veg dinner. However, if hungry between meals I am allowed to eat some low carb veggies, sugar-free jello, sugar-free pudding, eggs, or fat free cottage cheese. So far today I've had two protein shakes and some sugar-free jello. I'm trying to be somewhat strict with myself, because I want my liver to shrink as much as possible, to avoid complications. So I will likely be sticking with three protein shakes a day, and sugar-free jello as a snack. If I get desperate for something more filling I might boil an egg. Does your plan not allow you to have any snacks at all?

Hi there! I'm in the same boat as you, with similar stats as well. Highest weight was around 300, but I'm down to around 276 after over a YEAR of jumping through hoops to get insurance approval (I started the process in February of 2021!). The weight loss I've experienced so far can be attributed to giving up soda (even diet) and alcohol, which I did last summer. My surgery is June 24th, so today is the first day of my two week liquid diet, and someone at work has already offered me candy...uuuuuuugh. I've only told my closest colleagues about my surgery (I work at a school and today is the last day for students, so my surgery will be over summer break when I don't work anyway) but I might end up telling more of my co-workers at the end-of-year faculty luncheon later today, because some people might wonder why I'm sipping a protein shake staring longingly at everyone else's plates. How has your pre-op diet been going? What is your surgery date? Edit: Oh derp, I just saw you said your surgery is on the 20th. >_<

Heya everyone! I'm scheduled for surgery June 26th! Seems so close now, especially considering I began the process in February...of 2021. My daughter is my main motivation for getting the surgery. She is 10 and non-verbal autistic. She'll likely never be able to live independently, so I want to make sure I do everything I can to take care of her as long as possible. I mean, being able to shop in the regular women's section, and fit on rollercoaster and airplane seats will also be nice. But my little girl is my world, and it breaks my heart to think that someday I'll die, and she might not understand what happened, or where I've gone... so I'm doing all I can to make sure that day is a long, long time away. This is an older picture of her, but one of my favorites, because it really shows her personality. Such a happy kid.
  4. Hi y'all, I'm new here. Scheduled for surgery June 24th (but I started the whole process February 2021, long story). When researching which surgery to get, I was hoping for a duodenal switch, because it is supposed to have the best long-term outcome. Unfortunately my surgeon doesn't do DS, he only will do the VSG or RNY. And even then, he'll only do the RNY if you have diabetes or GERD. With him, then, my only option is the sleeve. (I don't live in an area where I can really "shop around" for bariatric surgeons). Honestly, I'm not upset, because it does seem to be one of the least invasive procedures... our insides aren't getting rearranged, we're just getting part of our stomach taken out. That being said, I'm kind of glad that the sleeve can so easily be revised into a DS, if I need it to be down the road. (I've been fat my whole life, so I'm really worried about regain). Obviously I'd need to search further away for a surgeon to do the DS, but I'll cross that bridge if or when I come to it. I'm hoping the sleeve will do the trick, though. I just want to be healthy. My ten-year-old daughter is autistic, and non-speaking, with very high support needs, so it's likely she'll never be able to live independently. I just want to make sure I'm around for her as long as I possibly can be. Anyway, hi! I'd love to hear your stories!
