  1. Hey all. I am Debbie and I live in England. I can't find any support groups over here so I am turning to you. From what I gather the pre op routine is slightly different but I am sure the post op will have to be the same. During my psych evaluation, the shrink told me to tell everyone and anyone to gain support. I think she is crazy. She insisted I tell my teenage boys just in case i did not come out the other side. My 15 vyr old is now terrified and my 17 yr old is embarassed. gee thanks. and no I did not tell every stranger I passed. Just my other half and a few close friends. Oh and my sister, who has her own eating demons. She was anorexic.:tt1:

    Who's Getting Banded in July?

I hope mo one thinks I am lucky and maybe my problem is unusual but here it is. I was banded on the 11th of July. I can't eat more than a couple of mouthfulls of food a day, nor can I drink more than a litre of Water. I get too full. I get that Christmas dinner feeling after half a glass of milk and it lasts for hours. I do take a multivitimin but a tablet as the chewable ones make me gag. I am only concerned about malnutrition. I had that happen once before and I cannot go thru my hair falling out in clumps like a cancer patient. I am trying a fruit and yogurt Protein shake in the morning....sips of water as often as I can but then I really have to try and eat at night. I managed half a hotdog. That cannot be good for anyone. I hate that bloated feeling. I have it now after about half a pint of smoothie in around 40 minutes. I am not due for a fill until the second week of August.

  4. Go me! I was in at hospital at 730 and operated on at 8;15. In a cuple of hours i was up and readig. Walking around to get rid of some wind. No pain from the operation. just my bak pain as i was not allowed mypils pre surgery. that was taken care of mmediately. M wonderful nurse tina gave ma a swig of oromorph and I was great. Drinking all afternoon. I ws ready to leave by 3:30 with full insstructions to keep me going till my fill i 6 weeks. Today, I just feel a but gassy. no diferent from any other laporascopic investigation. I have 3 tiny hasf inch scars and one about an ince. doubt they will even look like scars. I use dermatix on my scars and they usually all but dieappear. arhica is good for bruising. good luck
  5. I was not nervous at all. IT IS SUCH A quick procedure. The nurses are fabulous. I felt full of wind after, but walked it off. was drinking all fternoon without a roblem, sat in a chair and rad a book Today Iam fine but tired. bit of bruise on my tummy but that is all. scars tiny. Honestly I felreally good. Good luck and you will be just fine.
  6. I was only banded yesterday and I already feel wonderful. Just a bit sore on my tummy. There are really no negatives. so you can't drink soda or beer, find something else to enjoy. No one says you can't love to eat....Just do less of it and enjoy each mouthful. you will learn to enjoy food more as you will taste every bite. Who cares about what your friends say. You are eating what you want and not just playing hog. Besides most people are only interested in their plates. There is nothing to stop you telling people you already ate before or a thousand other things or the truth. I cannot reply to all your issues at once. I am stil a bit woozy from yesterday. but feeling great!!!! and maybe you should taok to a doctor about what it really entails?
  7. I wa only banded yesterday so may not have the experience you need. But I am a good motivator. you can email me provately if you can get my email from here, if not then askor it. you will succeed

    Who's Getting Banded in July?

it is nearly midnight and i have to be at the hosp by 7:30. My problem is not surgery, but I have a phobia of doctors which developec as a very small child. I have learned to be honest and it helps but the 2 sleeping pills I took are not working. Can't imagine why!!! yeah right. Thank the Lord for nurses. They are the most wonderful of Fod's creations. I actually spend far too much time inthe hosp with my back and my asthma, so you'd think I'd be used to it my now.....it never gets any better.....my hubby is sleeping like a baby beside me and i just wanna stab him...my older son is on his machine and the little one is out at a friend's.. i feel unloved ( totally untrue but i feel it) they are so used to me like this that they just ignore it, for their safety. 12 hrs from now my new life starts, I am cool with that....it is the next 10 hrs I have to survive!!!!!
  10. Hey and good morning. I am Debbie. 49 and looking at 50 as the new 30! I am a yank in southern england so my accent is kinds nutty. I am 5'5 and about 260, so busty and round at the moment. Long dark curly hair. no need for hair dye just yet thi I do like to change my color. I always have at least one blonde streak in ,y hair to cover those blonde moments in life...Tho now, I guess I cam use senior moments as an excuse!

What happens when you get to goal?

I like the way you think. I would not worry about anything that far in advance. But the band can be adjusted in both directions. I am sure they will tell you about it nearer the time. They can loosen ther band to allow more through

    should I?

ok...you are winding yourself in to a tizzy. stop and breathe. The surgical issues arew worrying but no doctor would approve you for surgery if he did not think it was physically safe. You cannot disappoint your husband. you are not doing anything to or for him. It will only faid if you want it to. I won't say you are worrying needlessly but I do think you need to take a step back and stop obsessing about it. Go for a walk, see a movie watch the sun set. If you already know you are not great after surgery then you know what to expect and you also know it ends. Talk to your best friend. Talk to someone who always makes you feel good. read some happy endings.

    Who's Getting Banded in July?

I am being banded on the 11th...go us!!!
  16. I have no problem with shame. But we don't shout everything to everyone on a daily basis anyway. I don't wear a shirt shouting "I am heterosexual" I don't scream at everyone"I have asthma" My business is my business. But there is no more shame in having gastric surgery than in having a nose job or boob job. Anything you do to make yourself feel better is a good thing. I am happy to find someone here in the UK/

    should I?

Deal with what? Being nervous before embarking on anything new is perfectgly normal. What kind of complications are you expecting? Talk girl..that is why we are here!

    What DON'T they tell you?

Anyone idiot who tells you they will be mad at you for weighing less than them is NO FRIEND AT ALL. Drop the garbage immediately. She only wants you there to make her look better and you just stood there and took it when she told you to your face. You will neevr succeed unless you start putting yourself first. You need to realise that you are far good for her and drop her now.

    Just starting out!

There is no such thing as an easy way out. Surgery is never easy and you well know it. Ignore those false friends and anyone who does not support you. Dieting is always easy when you have no weight to lose. You will always struggle and anyone who is not behind you is not worthy of your time and affection. God bless your husband.

    Surgery On Friday

I am being banded this friday too!!! We should keep in touch and bounced off each other. I am having my surgery at chertsey in Surrey. My doc insists on fat free diet for 3 weeks before surgery. Sounds pretty easy ans probably is if you love sugar. I will never look at a piece of fruit or a marshmallow again! the diet is to detox the liver making it easier for him to get throught the flab to the stomach. Don't worry about not being accepted. No one expects you to be 100% fit before surgery. And you would not be fat if you did not have some issues. Panic not and you will be just fine
