  1. I had surgery 2 1/2 years ago. Lately it seems I could eat a house if I let myself. There are other times that I take one bite and have to vomit. Any one out there experiencing the same?

    Did I stretch my pouch?

    HI folks! I rededicating myself to my lap band success of the past. I have sought out a new doc down her in FL now that I am a snow bird and I'm here most of the time. I've had problems for the last year or so that I hope to have resolved. I successfully lost 60lbs pretty steadily after my surgery. I then began to have problems keeping my food down. Some days I couldn't keep anything down . . . even liquids. I had to have my band emptied because of this at one point. I had it refilled and have had trouble losing any more weight - actually I have gained almost 20 lbs - which frightens me. There is no way I am eating enough food to gain this weight because most of it comes up! My husband and I went out to eat tonight. I got a salad bar which I cut up into very small pieces. After one bite I had to vomit and was unable to keep any of my dinner down. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm feeling desperate (ok, get a hold of myself- I'll be seeing a new doc soon). I would even consider having gastric bypass if I had to but I don't think my BMI would be high enough for my insurance to cover it or if they would even cover a second surgery. Any advice you all can give me, I'm open ears! Thanks Cindylew

    Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

    Hi Ladies (and gents:) I went on an Alaskan cruise the mid of July, gained 3 lbs and am no ready to get really serious about the rest of my weight loss. As I said in my posting a few weeks ago when I first signed on to this wonderful website: I had my surgery November 2005 - Wow! I can't believe it has been almost three years. My highest weight ever was almost 300 lbs (I'm not sure because I started to lose before I would weigh myself. I lost about 120 lbs and started to gain again - up to about 240 and decided to get banded. I lost 20 almost immediately and then it was real slow. I got down into the 170 and then started to gain weight. I am now 194 - I thought I would never see 190 again but here I am. I haven't been to my md in about a year. I moved out of state and haven't looked for a new md. I have to say I go through these times where I can't keep anything down and other times when I can eat almost anything. I wonder if my band has slipped and moves around. I know, I know I need to see a doctor. But even during these times of not being able to keep anything down, I don't lose weight. I don't understand it. Anyone experience any of my woes of above. I promise not be be a complainer. I get so excited when I read about any of you succeeding along. Obtaining a goal weight (160) would be sooooo cool.

    I buy protein products that my therapist turned me on to. I go to Home and go to a link at the bottom of her page. It links me to a store when they have great tasting foods - most of which a "mushy". I love the Nacho Pasta and the Vegetable Beef and Pasta. There are great bars when you're ready to eat them. There's infor on getting 10% at her website. I'll be glad to tell you the items I like the best if you want. I also like the Spuritein drinks. I get them at the local natural food store. There are so many different flavors. The directions say to mix with skim milk but I just mix it with cold water and some ice in a blender. I might add a bit of splenda. I've been stuck in my weight loss but I'm getting serious again about what I can and cannot eat. No more ICE CREAM!:thumbup:

  8. Just another comment about that: I never have a problem getting enough protein. I just had macaroni and cheese for dinner - and the stuff taste good too. There are bars that taste like girl scout mint cookies and lemon bars that I love.
  9. Gwenn, I buy very high protein products through a web site Home. It provides a link to a store that has wonderful food on it that is very high in protein. Most items have 12 - 15 grams each for bars or entrees or desserts and drinks.

    Think my tubing is kinked

    I have to say I've never heard of this happening, but I wouldn't worry. Your doctor will correct the problem - you'll be in and out of there in no time and then good as new - new after your first surgery that is. I'm sure you didn't DO anything to make this happen. Good luck.
  11. Gween, I saw this posted today. Looks like you're looking for this. Hope it helps and keep up the good work! OK, so here it is. Now this isn't what my dtr told me but I read this in a book. "Living and Eating Well after Weight Loss Surgery." Author Susan Maria Leach. ( Now she had GB, but the rules are still the same.) You may want to dble check with your dtr and make sure he's "on board" with this number. But this is what she writes in her book; "It is good nutrition for us to be able to rely on a daily Protein supplement of 25-50 grams and add to it with high-protein, low-fat and lower-carb foods. To determine the right amount of protein for yourself: An active person needs around 1.25 grams of protein per kilogram of ideal body weight. (1 kilogram equals 2.2 pounds) So we want to divide our goal weight by 2.2. Then we multiply that by 1.25. We use a person's ideal body weight to calculate protein targets because fat tissue does not need protein. So for example, a person weighing 247 pounds who exercises and has an ideal body weight of 145 would need 82 grams of protein daily to maintain muscle mass and good health.(145 divided by 2.2 pounds per kilograms then multiplied by 1.25 equals 82.3) Note that these figures are the recommended grams of protein needed for good nutrition and to keep muscles intact. We want to lose fat not muscle. Our vital organs are mad of muscle and need protein to function efficiently. So when we talk about 65-100 grams of protein a day, this is not a high-protein diet, it is a minimum fulfillment of or basic protein needs." Hope this helps Susan:biggrin2:

    I have failed!!

    Good advise. I'm off on a cruise in a week. I think I'll make an appointment for the day I get back. I don't want to be out in the middle of nowhere and need medical attention. I think I'll love this website and see a long relationship with you all. Thanks.
  13. I really appreciate all of you responding to me so quickly. How long have you all been banded? Have any of you had any weight gain? And by the way, I am post menopausal! Tell me about some of your experiences. Gratefully, Cindy
  14. I wasn't able to swallow anything, including water. My physican's assistant came in to do the "unfill". There are enough surgeons around who are familiar with the surgery now that I'm sure an ER could get you the care you need.

    I have failed!!

    Hi! I'm new to the site, so please be patient with me :tt2:. I had surgery November 2005. I was weighting 240 at the time. I am now 194. I had gone down to 172 last summer but over the last year I have slowly put weight back on. I haven't been back to my dr since last summer. I know this is ridiculous but I'm ashamed to go to him as a failure! I have succeeded in losing 50 lbs which is great but I have dreams of losing another 40. I'm having the hardest time. It seems some days I can eat anything and as much of it as I want and on other days I'll take one bite of something and I'll be vomiting. Any advice out there?
