Tinker053 got a reaction from GreenTealael in Very discouraged after sleeveI only had my operation 4 weeks ago, so may not be the best person to comment. However, I have found there are many foods that have added protein if you look at the packages. I have found eating my protein has made me less hungry for other foods. Good luck.

Tinker053 reacted to ms.sss in Alcohol during maintenance??Saw that this thread was revived and figured I'd throw in an update 3 months later...
Short Story: Yep, I am still drinking.
Long Story: About 2 months ago, I noticed that I was sleeping poorly (increasing regular insomnia, if i did sleep, i would still wake up tired, I went from getting up bright up and bushy tailed at 6am to dragging myself out of bed closer to 10. I was getting more headaches.
Mr. said it was because I was drinking too much...though he says this for EVERYTHING. I have a headache. You are drinking too much. My period is late. You are drinking too much. It's raining tomorrow. You are drinking too much.
Anyhoo, he said why not cut down anyway and see what happens....for science? Ah! he knows me so well, any opportunity to create a new spreadsheet and make some observations over time! LOL. So I stopped drinking for 10 days (it was supposed to be a week, but I'm an over-achiever). By the 2nd night I had the most glorious sleep, and woke up like a Disney Princess with birds singing and everything. and by about day 4 my regular headaches were easing up. By the end of the 10 days they were gone.
Well what the eff. The man may have been on to something (I'm never going to hear the end of this ?)
So of course I wasn't going to stop drinking forever (I'm a realist as well). So I did a bit more experimenting (and tracking) and found that on those days that I drink at night, I would generally have poor sleep. I haven't yet figured out the cause of the headaches, but for now I'm going to lump it with the extended period of bad sleep before.
So these days I try not to drink past 6pm if I am home. Though patios have opened up in my area so I may not be as home as often!
And I suppose I'm just going to keep doing my thing until something comes up again that spurs me to do some re-evaluating and adjusting.
Bonus Story: I have been smoke-free for 74 days. I was scheduled to get my 1st COVID vaccine shot and read about blot clots, so I figured I would try NOT to poke the bear and stop smoking a week before and 28 days after it just in case (because as we all know, smoking causes blot clots! why increase my chances?). Well after the 28 days, I figured hey, I don't miss smoking, so let's just not start again. So I didn't (yet!). #patsSelfOnTheBack.

Tinker053 reacted to loridee11 in 18 months post RNYI am just over 18 months post RNY surgery and am incredibly grateful that I had the opportunity for this tool, and glad I made the decision to do it. Even with everything going on in the world today, I am feelling happier and healthier than I have in a long time.
I am 5'10, just turned 43 year old women (41 at time of surgery). Highest weight was 334, day of surgery 292, today I am maintaining right around 160. So many non scale victories, but a few of my favorites:
- I have a ton more energy. I used to fall asleep on the couch after work most nights, and weekends I did errands and chores and rarely had the energy for much else. Now, I use my evenings to chores and save my weekends for hiking or other fun activities.
- My knees and ankles don't hurt. Before, just walking around the block meant pain, and my knees ached everyday (arthritis). Now, I walk between 1.5-2 miles almost every day and rarely have any pain. I can even do yoga poses like child's pose as I'm gaining flexibility back.
- I am out enjoying life more. I have always loved hike, but even when my weight wasn't as high I had a hard time as I was out of shape. Now, I hike most weekends, going 10+ miles and 2K elevation gain without a problem. Last weekend, at the top of a pretty steep hill my heart rate was still below 100! As the world reopens I feel more comfortable going to restaurant's (chairs are so much more comfortable!) and I'm sure other activities will be easier too.
- I started a new job in April, and hadn't met anyone in person. We had lunch the other day and I wasn't self conscious and worried that they'd be judging me for my weight.
- I can fit into cute and stylish clothes. I'm still figuring out what works on my new body, but I can go into little shops and they actually have things that fit! I'm generally a S top and 8-10 in bottoms.
I do have some work to do to clean up my diet. I've slipped a little in the last couple of months and need to get back to eating healthier before it starts impacting my progress. My goal is to not have to hyper focus on food and do regular meal planning with healthy foods and just eat until I am full. Hopefully, coupled with exercise that will help me maintain.
Thanks for letting me share.

Tinker053 reacted to Rey Rodriguez in One week since surgery and only lost 2lbUgh it’s terrible isn’t it. I still haven’t lost weight and I’m approaching 3 weeks but hopefully we’ll see something soon!

Tinker053 reacted to Ffmgal in One week since surgery and only lost 2lbI am in the same boat. Almost 3 weeks out and have been stuck at the same weight for 10 days. -
Tinker053 reacted to Elidh in One week since surgery and only lost 2lbYup, agree with others have posted. I didn’t weigh until 3 weeks post op. Just stay away from the scale for now - let your body eliminate the fluids and you will most likely be pleased with the results after that.

Tinker053 reacted to Rey Rodriguez in One week since surgery and only lost 2lbI’m having the same issue as you are. I had a vsg last week and haven’t lost any weight yet but after reading the others replies, I’m hoping it’ll start coming off soon!

Tinker053 reacted to Tripletsmom1971 in One week since surgery and only lost 2lbI feel this on a personal level. I had lost 44 pounds since January 2021, surgery on 6/21/21, I’m only 10 days out, and HAVE been on the scale ( I know I shouldn’t), and have only lost 5 pounds. I felt like I probably would be a ‘slow loser’, since I had already cut my calorie intake for so long b4 surgery, but as long as I’m still losing, I’ll be happy with that ? -

Tinker053 got a reaction from GreenTealael in One week since surgery and only lost 2lbHi, I'm a Newby just found the forum, I'm so shocked. I had my gastric bypass last Wednesday and have only lost 2lb. I'm currently 262lb. I lost quite a bit on the pre opp diet went from 281 to 264. (In 2 weeks). So was surprised at the low weight loss this week. I've been really good with my protein and haven't had over 800 calories a day. I just don't understand it.

Tinker053 reacted to Eli05 in One week since surgery and only lost 2lbHey tinker053, I’m experiencing the same. I’m a week out and only 2 pounds down its pretty disheartening but I did allot of reading and definitely thing hop_scotch is right on this.
I still feel swollen and can’t even remember the amount of iv bags that were pumped in during the hospital stay. The pain meds may also cause retention.
I’m hopeful we will both see solid results soon! -
Tinker053 reacted to catwoman7 in One week since surgery and only lost 2lbpeople "gain" weight from the IV fluids they give you in the hospital. Some of us "gain" as much as 10 lbs from them. It can take a few days for them to work their way out of your system, so if the weight is bothering you, stay off the scale for a few days. I don't think I weighed myself at all that early out - I waited until my two-week follow-up appointment.
Updated to add that Hopscotch is right - in addition to the IV fluid, you lost a lot pre-surgery, so you won't lose as much right after surgery as someone who didn't have a pre-surgery loss.

Tinker053 reacted to Hop_Scotch in One week since surgery and only lost 2lbThere's a reason many surgeons say don't weigh for a few weeks following surgery. Our bodies are inflammed, swollen and possibly still some fluid retention. Also if you lost a lot of weight in the couple of week pre-surgery this often results in a lower loss in the first week or two following surgery.
As long as you are getting sufficient fluids and meeting your food requirements the scales will reflect your efforts soon.
