BMI and comorbidity needs to be present for at least 12 months if you are seeking eligibility based on BMI of 35-39.9 with at least 1 comorbidity.
If going by BMI of 40+, you need to have that BMI for at least 12 months.
Turned out the month my BMI hit 35 was also the month (07/2020) I was diagnosed with mild OSA and started CPAP therapy.
My consult was in February, I had planned to pay out of pocket. My insurance coordinator recommended I wait until July to submit my paper work. Paper work was submitted 07/07, approved 07/13 and I had surgery on 08/04.

My first goal was 180. The last weight I remember when I was social and comfortable enough with my appearance that I went out and did things like bowling league. I just reached 180.7 today!!

Insurance provider is Regence in WA state and my copay was $300 five weeks ago.

7 months and 6 days post-op, and I’ve hit my goal! I lost around 70 lbs pre-op (and over 50 of that before surgery consult in late October of last year - COVID scared me into finally getting motivated to really do something about the weight). Pictures are from fall of 2019, second is about 2 weeks post op, and then the last is from early this week. Thinking of adjusting my goal down another 10 lbs or so as I still want to lose some more, but this is the lowest adult weight I have been. Need to start saving for plastics. I will say, the changes are more noticeable now - even 5 lbs can make a difference. I also started doing strength training about 10 weeks post-op (once I was fully vaccinated) and that has made a MASSIVE difference. I did a body scan and from late March when I started to mid-July (my most recent scan), I lost 35 lbs, which I knew from my scale, but I actually gained 6.5 lbs of muscle and lost 17% body fat. Want to continue to build that muscle and tone and now thinking lose another 10 or so. We shall see. But for today, I celebrate hitting my goal, especially since everyone at the surgeon’s office said not to set it at that, as most folks only lose 60-70% of their excess weight. Of course, they also only want me to eat plant-based, and that’s not happening either. It’s definitely Fri-YAY!

So I think I am stalled now but just realized I have lost 50 pounds including what I lost pre op. I was a little discouraged with the stall but I never could have lost 50 pounds by myself.

Had the VSG on the 4th, was in and out of the surgical center in under 11 hours. No gas pain and I've been keeping water and clear protein drinks down without nausea. Lots of sipping, doesn't take more than 3 to feel chest pressure. I'm still surprised this is going so well. I was supposed to take Lyrica, Tylenol and Ibuprofen on a scheduled for pain; I've mostly taken Ibuprofen since Tylenol doesn't do much for me and Lyrica is a no-go. I had 1 oxy yesterday, none today. Worst is the incision by the navel which affects how I sit or turn. The only thing bugging me is difficulty finding words and choosing similar but incorrect words when I speak. It was my first time receiving anesthesia and it was rough in recovery. The surgery practice has a great protocol to manage pain and nausea before surgery.
I was out and about for the past 2 days without any issues. No food cravings or hunger, I spent the morning showing off my baking skills to out of town guests. I was on my feet all day without feeling tired. There is some really great food around me but I don't feel like I'm missing out.
