  1. Helena, Wow you sound like me. I am older (55) though. I have always just wanted to be around the 200lb mark also. I am 5'9. My weight hovered around 275 for most of my adult life. I was able to get down to 230 on my own several times, but then hit a wall, and gained it all back. As i got older, I started having blood sugar issues and was told I needed a total knee replacement. I was too heavy for that surgery. I decide to do a gastric sleeve two years ago. I had my knee replaced two months ago. I have maintained my weight loss for 2 years. This was a Godsend for me. This is a personal choice, but worked wonders for me. It is not the magic wand. You still need to watch what you eat and do the right thing everyday. Hoping this helps. ~Lisa
  2. I'm 11 months out. I can tell you that the amount of food I can eat has been that same since about month 6. If I go out to eat with hubby, I usually eat about 1/3 of the meal. I take it home and we split the remaining portion for lunch the next day. I am thankful I can't eat like I did. It does take time to eat. Friends and family eat so much faster, I understand what you are saying. Be sure you check in with your dietitian. That is important as you are worried about malnutrition. I can also tell you that I lost ALOT of hair up until about month 8? 9? But it has definitely started to regrow! That was devastating to me.... It will grow back

Less than month preop weight gain

Yes, Hang in there. I had the sleeve 11 months ago. There were several times I felt discouraged. You don't gain weight overnight, nor will it come off that way. Seek advice from your dietitian. Maybe you are not taking the right vitamins or calories.... YOU GOT THIS!
  4. Hello, I am almost 5 months out from surgery. I have been steadily losing every week. Up until about 3 weeks ago. I have only lost 2 lbs in the last 3 weeks. I know everyone says plateaus are common, but finding myself getting disappointed. I am following my plan, eating enough protein, watching calories. Maybe not enough water? trying though... Any words of encouragement or personal knowledge. ( I am on my feet all day at work and in need of a knee replacement, so lots of exercise is hard)
  5. My situation is a bit different than Sleeversk. I am 5 months PO. I have lost 70lbs and feel great! I do have a slight uptick in heartburn, which is maintained with meds. Things he says are true like chewing your food well and giving up carbonated drinks. If I eat too fast, I do know it. It takes a bit for it to go down. I just get moving and it usually solves itself. There is still a feeling of hunger as has been mentioned, but a small amount of food takes it away. I would recommend the surgery. At 10weeks PO , I may have been struggling a bit more, but you have to hang in there. Be kind to yourself and remember that a weight in your early twenties may not be realistic today. Hoping you get the answers you are looking for....good luck.
  6. Hello, I am 4.5 months after Sleeve surgery. I am very happy with the weight loss. I know hair thinning is common. I am seeing (for about 4 wks now), a substantial increase in my thinning. I am doing all I think I can. Noixin hair products, Rogaine, Biotin. My team says it is normal and will regrow. My question is....anyone experience this and did it regrow??

    Tragic accident

Oh how horrible. My heart bleeds for you. I will pray for you and your family........
  10. I agree with the above. Staying hydrated is most important. I haven't experienced much nausea, except when I take vitamins without drinking a bit of shake. Yes, I would ask your team. Good luck

    New to the group

so happy for you.... I wish I had done it sooner!
  12. Hi Friends, I have lost about 50lbs. I am struggling with how my arms and legs look. I did know that things would start to sag. It really is bothering me. I am very self conscious about this. I have a "beach weekend" planned with the girls next month. Do any of you have a website where I can buy a bathing suit that covers some of this???

    APPROVED!! Travel question

Please discuss with your doctor. I had a similar situation. He was more concerned about flying too close to the surgery due to possible blood clots. It does seem that 6 weeks would be enough time....but ask the professionals.

    Confused

Oh wow, That is horrible. I am sorry. Please be extremely honest with your doctors about this. I am sure there is something that can be done. sending well wishes....
  15. I know exactly what you are talking about. I have had that "stuck" feeling in my stomach. When that happens, dont try to wash it down with water. That just makes it worse. Move around. That will help. My doctor had me on liquids for 4 weeks post-op. I am at 6.5 weeks now and still cant get anything more than one scrambled egg, tiny pieces of grill chicken or maybe some green beans down. I am surviving mostly on shakes. The doctor says everyone is different. Oh and yes....I am on benefiber and probiotics daily for the constipation. horrible.

    Help[emoji45]

For the record, I feel exhausted and crappy all of the time too. 500-600 calories a day will do that. Cheer up , you are not alone

    Help[emoji45]

Honestly, I'm glad I am not alone. I am 5 weeks post op. I returned to work last week. Since going back, I have struggled with the shakes, water and the inability to eat any of the things I am supposed to be "Trying". Yesterday, at work, I tried to eat a few bites of grated turkey. I guess i ate it too fast. After 3 bites, I feel like it got stuck. It was horrible for about 3 hours. I think we just need to go back to the basics. 1) drink the water first, the 2) get in the protein via shakes and 3) if there is any time left...some of the other things we are supposed to ne eating. I am struggling so hard after going back to work. We just need to stay positive and remember why we did this.

    Endoscopy- what to expect?

I was terrified for my pre-op endoscopy. They use Propofol now. You will be completely asleep. Wont remember anything past them putting the guard in your mouth. No worries!

    Where to start

Hi, I am going into week 4 also. My doctor required a full liquid diet for 4 weeks post -op (and 2 weeks pre-op). I am doing well and my only advice to you would be to increase protein when hunger hits. I have been drinking 1/3 to 1/2 protein shake when hunger hits, I must say that I am surprised that I am hungry at all, post-op, but I am. Not starving, but definately hungry. I didn't think that would happen anymore. Either way, we have made a life changing decision to get healthy. I am starting soft proteins tomorrow... a bit nervous. But excited. You got this!

    May Surgeries - check in!

Hello. I had my gastric sleeve done on April 30. I did have to do the liquid diet for 2 weeks prior. I have done keto in the past and have learned that eliminating carbohydrates helps to lower the hunger pangs. I came off all carbs about 6 days prior to going on the liquid diet, I thought it really helped to come off them first, then eliminate the solid foods later. I was also concerned about the lack of energy at work. I am on my feet, active, for ten hours a day. This first few days were the toughest, but it wasn't that bad after that. It was very important to drink the shakes before I got really hungry. Drink them at a regimented time to hold the hunger at bay. It really was not as bad as I thought it would be.......Good Luck!
