    Opera

Hi everyone, I posted this somewhere else to but I was hoping that maybe there would be someone close to my age or maybe going to school for the same thing that would have any specific advice... Here goes nothing... I am 23 and currently in school training to be an opera singer (I still have a really long way to go). I am a little worried about how the weight loss is going to effect my voice. I was wondering if anyone out there is a singer or aspiring singer and has had this done...? I know that my voice will change but because I am younger I will most likely have the time to "fix" anything that happens, well, to a point. I know that everyone is different to... I see what happened to Deborah Voight and what she went through. Granted she is much older but she did have to take a year off to retrain her entire voice, but she also had the bypass. This is the only thing that is keeping me from feeling really good about the surgery. Any advice or thoughts are greatly apprecieated...

    BMI less than 40?

Hi guys! I have a question. I am currently pre-op and just trying to get everything going, but my BMI is like 36 or something and I was wondering if anyone else was in the same situation and if you had any issues being approved. I am still over weight for my height and I have a lot of diseases that run in my family as well as a family history of extreme obesity. I dunno I'm just a little worried at the moment. Thanks guys!
  3. Hey! Thanks for your post about my singing thread! It always reassuring to hear success stories! Congrats on the 30lbs! That's amazing! I can't wait until I'm there. Anyways, ttyl!

  4. Hi there Goya! I was born in San Francisco, but I grew up primarily in So Cal. I lived in TX when I was really little too (Houston). So where are you in this lap band process?

  5. I'm sorry if there was a better place to post this, but here is goes... :glare: I am 23 and currently in school training to be an opera singer (I still have a really long way to go). Dating, geez, HELP.

I completely agree with what everyone is saying. I was never under 200 lbs in high school and I went to 1 dance with a guy and we had fun but then after that he pulled the "let's be friends..." etc etc. Now I'm about to graduate from college and that is the last relationship I've had. Sometimes it really bothers me that most of my friends have bf's or a fiancé or are freaking married! Bah! Then I feel like there is something wrong with me ... (I know there's not and it's all about confidence, but it's still a hard pill to swallow). Sigh.... I tried the online dating thing and was matched up with a couple people, but it was fairly disastrous for my confidence. (To make a long story short, this guy e-mailed me and told me that no one is going to love me while I'm heavy and that I don't really deserve to be loved.) So that was the end of that... I am really looking forward to the day when I will be able to talk to men and not be pre-judged about myself because of my size. Sorry to rant... I just had to get that off my chest.

How do you tell your friends?

how do you tell friends that you know won't understand? I am pre op right now and just beginning the process, but I have already thought about this. . . my mom and sister know but beyond that i feel like i cant tell anyone. I have been judged my whole life based on the fact that i am overweight and making something which is supposed to be a positive thing for me negative will ruin it. I dont want to get the lap band and start to feel good about myself only to have friends disapprove. I thought about lying and just saying i am on a strict diet and only eat a bunch of small meals a day. but what happens when she wants me to have a junk food day or to come over for dinner. My friend will expect me to eat more than i would be able to post op. Maybe im thinking too much into it and i know its early to be worried about it, but i dunno. . . I dont see how i can tell my friends but i also dont see how i can keep it a secret.

    I'm really not that old...

Ok ... I have a good one. A few years ago (I was 19), my sister and I were signing up for Curves gym, and we were done filling out all the paperwork etc etc. and the woman who was helping us said ... "It's so nice to see a mother and daughter who are there for each other." I was furious! I snapped back and said something like "Oh ya, being pregnant at 3 years old is tough but things have worked out really well." Well, we ended up cancelling our membership a few months later for other reasons. Jeeze!!!

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of doctors in Northern California?
  11. Hi everyone! I am looking for a good lap-band doctor in Northern California. My insurance company recommended Dr. Poselt and UCSF and someone told me that the doctor at Southbay Bariatrics is pretty good. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Suggestions for Dr. in Nor. Cal.

Sorry everyone. I was looking around this forum and found some answers. Please still post if you would like. I should have done some research before I posted.
  14. I've been doing a lot of research about the lap band and I came across some patient reviews of the procedure. They were saying that the first few months are great and then you can start developing issues with acid reflux and being able to keep food down. They said that they couldn't sleep because they were choking on their stomach acid etc. and that food was getting stuck in the band and they had to go to the ER. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone or what your thoughts are on this. How often does this really happen? Thanks for any posts with your thoughts.
  15. Thanks guys... This makes me feel a lot better about lap band.:biggrin2:
  16. Hi everybody. I just registered and I wanted to say hi to everyone here. I am just beginning this journey (literally, I just called my insurance company yesterday to see if they would cover the lap band. Hahaha!) Anyway, I'm sure that I will have questions later for everyone. Off to go make an appointment with my doctor! <3

    Hi from California

I am trying to find a doctor. Do you have any recommendations? I was thinking of going to UCSF, but they are kind of intimidating. Is there anyone who you guys have really enjoyed working with?
