Total confused the more I read!!!

Dear Confused, Just to tell you how different each Doctor & clinic are. I gained weight pre-op. The day before surgery I was allowed to have a last supper. Mine was prime rib. On Jan. 15th, 2008. Liqiuds of broth & jello for 20 days. Then, eggs & solids & back to what is now normal. I can eat anything. I still have my prime rib, but less than a 4 ozs. Only 3 meals a day. I battle & usually beat the hunger monsters each night. Follow your own Doctors advice. Now is the time & place for you & your new band to go where you have not been before. It is a lot of fun for me!:tt2::thumbup::crying: Hasta Pronto, George
  3. Dr. Atkinson preformed my WLS with Dr. Soong. This was at North Vista Hospital in North Las Vegas, on 1/15/08. The nurse's explained to me that either Doctor might have preformed my surgery- Dr. Atkinson is the one who signed my admitting sheet with Brian Grace. Dr. Segura was working with the clinic ( Sugical Weight Control Center, SWCC ). She did my pre-op eval. She held a very great group meetings at SWCC. She holds great WLS meetings now in Summerlin. SWCC at Meadows holds 2 support groups a month for banders & 1 for by-pass. I have a couple more places that I use for support. I have lost over 143 pounds & have not had a fill yet. If I decide to get a fill Brian said there will be no charge to me. Melissa would be the one to do my fills if needed. My out of pocket expences have been less than $2,500.00 with medicare. I have attened seminars of the 2 new Doctors in town. I got lucky in my choice of clinics. After care is what I make of it & it's been great. Hasta Pronto, George:thumbup::tt2::thumbup: P.S. Las Vegas is the fattest city in U.S. Many, many tons have been lost through SWCC
  4. Today is my 1y.o. band day. Lost #140 I started looking into WLS about 11 years ago. Band was not an option in U.S. then. By-pass was different then today. I became disabled and retired from working 6 ago years. I moved here from Alaska to have spine fusion surgery. I think its was 80% that Social Security Disability covers. I had my orthopedic surgeon refer me to a band clinic(SWCC). Brian told me,my after care would be free. I was trying to get new people to (support) group at SWCC. Dr. Segura has helped me alot pre-op & post-op. She is in a the best position to tell you what you want to know about Dr. Atkinson. Her e-mail is ksegura637@hotmail.com She also has a group. I'm the newest post-op there. I hope this helps & this is what you wanted to know. Wish you the best of luck. Hasta Pronto, George:thumbup::thumbup:
  5. Sorry to hear your band has to go. If I needed mine removed I would have Dr. Atkinson do it. He is a lap-band proctor & can install realize. I think he has the most experience with weight loss surgery in Nevada. Dr. Soong is the 1st bariatric Dr. that I've heard say that the band can be removed. If your in the area Brian Grace, PA-C, will lead a support group meeting tonight at 6 P.M. Meadows Lane Office. Good Luck, Hasta Pronto, George:thumbup::thumbup:

    They asked me to speak

Yes, you should speak. Be honest. You do not have to go into detail. Aim your remarks at the newer banders. We struggle every day. Older banders know how hard it is to stick to the rules to the letter. The(y) (newbies) have to stick to steps right after surgery to get band set properly. For the rest of our lifes we will try to avoid strecthing our new stomach out shape. Were all just learning this new life style of ours. The more we learn, we find the more we need to learn. You are successfull! You should be very proud of your success! Good Luck, Hasta Pronto, George:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Maybe this is taboo to say..... Barbaric

Banding is not barbaric. I had a circumcision 55 years ago without my permission. I had a 400% BM gain in weight. I have not had a decent nights sleep since.:thumbup::thumbup: George
  12. Hi! Dr. Atkinson & Dr. Soong did my surgery on 1/15/08. Lost #140. Surgical Weight Control Center is the best. Follow Dr. Fishers 9 steps & the pounds & inches will fall off. If you need books or have any questions you can PM me your phone #. Support groups are 2 times a month @ Meadows office. Go into surgery with a positive attitude. You will do just fine. See you at group. Good Luck, Hasta Pronto, George:thumbup::thumbup:

    lap band vs by-pass

At 1 seminar a new WLS Doctor said that a lot of favoritism is just geographic. At my support group meeting last night, my Doctor said that things are swinging in favor of by-pass. I have gotten by-pass results with a Realize band. Lost #140 pounds in 11 months. Good Luck, Hasta Pronto, George:thumbup::thumbs_up::thumbup:

Losing my virginity to the LapBand!

Dear Virgin Angel, You will lose most of weight in the 1st few months. Get whey protein drinks. The most important thing is to get your band seated & healed right. Develop a water habit. Broth was my first drink post-op, last drink of that crap 2 weeks later. You be eating regular food & losing the majority of excess weight. Vitamins & exercise, you'll melt those kilos down the drain. Good Luck! I'm a fill virgin, will share when I decide to give it up. Hasta Pronto, George:thumbup::wub::thumbup:

    Lap-Band, the easy way out.

Without the band, only 5% of the morbidly obese are successful on a weight loss diet. The liquid phase, after my band was installed, was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. My spine fusion surgery 3/17/06 & learning to walk again, now that was easy. I have not lived a sheltered life. The easy way out is funny. The best day of my life was losing my morbid obese handle. It was easy carrying around an extra 140 pounds every second, minute, hour, day, week, month , year & decade. I took the easy way out 1/15/08. Lost #140, no fills yet. Easy Realize,:thumbup::thumbup: Hasta Pronto, George
  18. Prostitution is alive & well legal. Except in Clark County. Our Mormon Governor won't allow sin close to Sin City. He loves whores, not to be confused with prostitutes. Politicians & Prostitutes here in Nevada are the best money can buy. It can't be a sin if it's legal!:thumbup::thumbup: Hasta Pronto, George
  19. Dear Sirs, This is very interesting. The article made me stop & think about my weight loss journey. Around 1997 I flew from Fairbanks, Alaska to Washington. I attended a weight loss seminar + talked to Dr. Ross Fox.I think this was a time before a person could get banded in U.S.A. Dr. Fox got me started on the possibility of having an adjustable gastric band. I don't remember any mention of laparoscopic surgery. I did talk to bypass patients in the hospital at Auburn. In the years since this 1st seminar, weight loss surgery and I have changed a lot. I was banded 1/15/08. lost 140 pounds. Not filled yet. Thank You Dr. Fox for getting me started.:cry_smile: Hasta Pronto, George

    question about loss

Wow! Happy New Year! I have several 38 inch pants at the ready. I have gone from 4-X shirts to X-large in 2008. January 15th will be 1st year. Have not had fill yet. I've been doing a lot of camping, swimming & hiking. Death Valley is great for the mineral warm springs pool at Furnace Creek. Been there 5 times in the last 2 months. Am down 140 lbs. I have lost morbid obesity way back on the trail last year. I will not go there again. Fatmaninlittlecoat, a good book for research is Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band. By Dr. Sewell. This book helps me each time I read it.:thumbup::thumbup: Hasta Pronto, George
  21. Howdy! In 3 weeks I will celebrate my 1 year banday with my Realize Band. I have lost 4 or 5 clothes sizes, fast pulse rate & morbid obesity. Dr. Atkinson banded me 1/15/08. I had no idea of which band or size until July 08. Surgical Weight Control Center has told me that all my visits will be free. I have not had a fill yet. Lost over 140 pounds. I would like to Thank LBT, Doctors & support groupers. This trip has been fast, fun & lightning.Good Luck, Hasta Pronto, George:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Any Las Vegas people out there?

I forgot about the $$$ money. Through my clinic there were 3 different prices for the adjustable gastric band. There is LapBand in two sizes. There is Realize Band. I would guess $25k would be ballpark figure for banded self pay in Las Vegas now. Surgical Weight Control Center will cover my post-op visits for free (fills). SWCC has 2 support group meetings a month for banders. Dr. Segura (shrink) has a group the 1st Wednsday of each month. Far to many people forget that in person support groups are very important. Pre-op, go to as many seminars & support group meetings as you can. The band will give you more everything! Geo.:tongue2::thumbup:

Any Las Vegas people out there?

Dear fancynancy, Good Luck! Las Vegas is where I chose to have Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band. This is also a title for a book that can help you figure out Everything You Need to Know Before & After Surgery to Lose Weight Successfully. By Dr. Sewell. I had a Realize Band installed in me 1/15/08. Dr. Atkinson did this at North Vista Hospital. I have lost 140 pounds. My proudest number is my pulse rate 61. These are way different than a year ago. I'm just starting this journey & would like to share a one line from this book. " Obesity is a cronic disease, & treatment with the band requires regular monitoring, periodic adjustments, & nearly continuous patient support in order to be successful". Again Good Luck & may Santa bring you what he brought me. Hasta Pronto, George :tongue2::thumbup:
