  1. Wow. That’s quite a feat ?? and I am guessing you have kept the weight off? How long did it take for you to lose 200+?
  2. I am 2 months post-Op and we are allowed 2 cups max of caffeine intake. So it isn't completely off the table, though I don't bother much with coffee unless I really need it on one of those days.
  3. I am 2 months out and I have tolerated everything so far. Couple of fries, piece of cake, half cup iced cappuccino, chocolate, restaurant style paneer tikka, little bit of naan (bread), piece of pizza etc etc. I haven't had any issue except with pizza, it kinda felt stuck and gave me a little chest discomfort. But then again, I am only 2 months out. Plus all the foods I have tried have been in small quantities just once. Never tried to go beyond a few bites. So for now on those quantities I haven't had any dumping. While on the program now, only things I have on certain days are *sugar free lactose free ice cream - About 1 or 2 tbsp* only and *sugar free chocolates - just 1 piece*. That's my treat at times when I am craving for some chocolate or sweet. I have already tried couple of things I wanted to but now I don't consume or bother with them since I know I tolerate pretty much majority of food items. So stick to the program only.
  4. I totally get that. It's a major surgery and you're bound to be scared. I was most scared of dying on the table and I had mentioned this out here how I had even written post dated emails to my very close friends and family. Rest I didn't even think about much. I just went in with the mindset no side effects would be as bad as my pre-Op condition (debilitating depression that took away years of my life). Hence nothing else seemed as scary and just thought to deal with whatever was written in my post-Op journey. My suggestion would be to imagine how life would be post-Op than your current one. Is it worth the risk. Are you satisfied and happy with your life now? If no, then take the chance. Side effects can happen to anyone but go with a positive mindset and you just may have a similar graph as a lot of us out here. ?
  5. 2 months post-Op and except for the day of the surgery, I haven't thrown up even once. Fortunately for me, it hasn't been a turbulent recovery, can't same it's same for all. But personally speaking, I haven't thrown up and have tolerated most of the food group. I don't do grains as much since they feel heavy. Only once when I had tried a small size of pizza, I have had some discomfort in my chest. That's about it. So for the time being I don't do much grains. I'll incorporate them beyond month 3. Good luck with your journey ?
  6. LOL at *women only please* ?? I think it's fine for guys to learn a thing or two about periods too ?
  7. I think you may be in the intial period of the surgery and it takes time to get adjusted to a new lifestyle. Yes you won't be able to binge or have big portion of food like you used to but post-Op your portion sizes do increase. I also have PCOS and have dealt with and even now dealing with it's horrendous side effects. Hirutism, acne, no periods, weight gain, dark patches, skin tags, metabolic syndrome, high BP and HR (but never took meds for it) anxiety, depression you name it and I have/had it. I'll anyday take this surgery over having to deal with plethora of PCOS related symptoms. My acne has gotten better, blood pressure and HR have normalized so far. No periods still. But I am sure as I continue to lose, some of these side effects will minimize. There's no guarantee, but I am sure I am on a better boat post-Op. My cravings and binge eating have also gotten better, which was never the case post tons of diet plans. This surgery is definitely a boon for many. But it takes time, patience, work and sacrificing of certain elements. Like many suggested, try therapist and see that may help or give it couple of months of adjustment. Good luck.
  8. I am not sure how much weight you're planning to lose but with ESG weightloss is slower and not as much, about 15 to 20%, which isn't a lot especially for majority of us who fall under Obese category. So depends on your BMI and the goal you have in mind. As for scars, laproscopic scarring is minimal and after a year or so, you won't even notice (I am sure many veterans here can vouch for it). Regardless of what you choose, good luck with your journey.
  9. Awwww, so sorry to hear about the strokes. That's quite unfortunate an effect and totally get your concerns then. But do you mind clarifying how can anemia cause strokes? Quite baffling to hear that.
  10. May be bake for your family with sugar wgile have a small portion for yourself baked with artificial/natural sweetners.
  11. I agree that anemia may be a consequence of the malabsorption but it's also true surgerical techniques have changed over years and it isn't the same as that of 25 yrs ago. The amount that gets bypassed, cause for malabsorption, has also changed. So it depends really on various factors why one may have issues down the road.
  12. I have PCOS and slow metabolism but I wanted something that had better stats in the long run and RYN has that. Not to say sleeve doesn't since many have been successful on it as well. But personally given my medical history and plethora of PCOS related side effects, I opted for bypass. Plus chances of revision is also high with sleeve because of reflux issue. And I didn't want take the route of having to have a second surgery if revision was needed. "ONE surgery and that should be the end of it" was my thought process. Hence even after being confused, I finally opted for bypass. I know many prefer sleeve because of less chances of dumping and malnutrition, so it depends if those look tempting for you. Though there are 70% of by-passers who also don't dump, myself including. I always wanted a weight loss route that didn't restrict my diet (reason why I hated Keto and other carbs restrictive diets, my binge eating always worsened with them). Even then I took my chance with bypass thinking I shall see when I cross the bridge. And fortunately, I don't dump (at least with some of the sugary and fatty foods I have tried till now). So give consideration to your medical history, your metabolism, stats and pros and cons of each and go with your gut feeling. That's what I did and so far I haven't regretted it *fingers crossed*
  13. So 2 months since the surgery and 9 weeks and in total have lost about 28 pounds. Last month was slow, about 10 pounds. Seems like weight will take its sweet time coming off. Slow loser here from what I can see. Though as long as it continues coming off and I can reach the goal, all well. Hoping everyone else is doing well on their ends given we are in Feb now.
  14. Yeh I personally can't do Keto even if I try ? I talked about it above. I had tried Keto in the past and it makes me miserable having to limit carbs. Keto expects you to restrict even good carbs like fruits and complex grains, which isn't sustainable in a long run. Not to mention heavy load of fat content in the diet, which truly freaks me out even when I did Keto. Hence here I am with the surgery since weight loss journey has to be sustainable otherwise the cycle of yo yo dieting continues. I feel Keto can be good for the weight loss but not sure if it's sustainable for a lifelong commitment. Plus Keto is usually combined with intermittent fasting, which again isn't sustainable.
  15. Currently at my stage, I use refried bean for a taco bowl of a type - Refried beans with some taco spice, cheese, salsa and skyr yogurt (which replaces sour cream and is high in protein). My favorite meal of the day ?
  16. Ahhh Pita and rice may work up the calories. I have been avoiding grains cuz they seem too heavy. But now that I am almost done with month 2, I may give it a shot. BTW, brown rice or white rice? Can't do chicken and all cuz vegetarian but would love a falafel in a pita (ofc bariatric version of falafel) ? Your carb content isn't almost double your protein. So seems like I shouldn't be worried getting more carbs in. With beans and lentils, carbs do overshoot, but without them there won't be much variation in my diet. My fats are around similar number, usually less than 30gram.
  17. Well it is slow and steady, so hanging there ? Almost end of month 2 and I think I'll end up losing about 10 to 11 pounds this month. It's slow compared to others but I think it's fine. It could be because I had lost almost 25 pounds before surgery. Post surgery it'll be another 28 to 29ish. So I think I am getting there. Only 1 major stall for about 2 to 3 weeks and it's going down little by little, so I think it's nice ? Have a follow up appt on Feb 1st, so will figure out if any dietary changes are needed. That makes sense. I think RYN it's lesser than that. Though I completely forgot to ask my surgeon how much was mine. ??‍♀️??‍♀️ LMFAO ?? Weird, bizarre and all sorts of crazy. Well then, may be it's time you ought to say "Hi" to them ?
  18. Nothing too fancy yet, but finally my favorite winter PJ fit loose on me when I avoided wearing them for few years for fitting too snug on me. ?
  19. Amazing transformation dude. ?e We can see those dimples shining through ? BTW, how did people around you react? Like your colleagues or people you may have stumbled into after years?
  20. The best feeling ever eh after struggling with weight almost all our lives and the same daunting feeling of being watched. Seriously you look great, feel great. What else is there to it. Congrats on your journey. It's funny how this section is right in the corner. ??‍♀️ Didn't know this info. It sounds weird considering both RYN and miniRYN have similar routing of the digestive track. ??‍♀️ But from some of reviews out here, it does seem like mini has been doing great work. In Canada, surgeries are covered under our medical insurance, but we only have an option of Sleeve or RYN. Not sure why this isn't on the table yet when RYN is. Regardless, I was kinda confused with sleeve vs RNY. But given my PCOS history and ofc GERD associated revision, I ended up choosing RYN. And I think I am glad I did that cuz having gone through post-Op, I don't think I ever want to go back to an OR unless for extrutiating circumstances. Again, well done with your journey ?? Your advises and posts have been very helpful out here. ?
  21. I would say do it during the spring break. You need time to recuperate. Some folks may have it easy but sometimes you may need more time and you don't want the extra stress of school at the same time. I was in school and my term was hectic, a semester of work squeezed in 2.5 months. So I had postponed my surgery by 2 months and got it done during the break between terms. And I was so glad I did that. First week more or less you're knocked out and don't have the energy to do anything (I was on 1 week clear fluids diet post-Op). After that full fluids for 3 weeks. Fatigue and lack of energy persisted at least for 2 to 3 weeks. So I was grateful for the break time. I would recommend if you can, do it during your break time and you'll thank yourself. It a huge change for your body and also your eating and drinking habits. It takes time to gradually move over. Good luck with whatever you decide.
  22. Congrats on the weight loss ?? My program sounds quite similar to yours - As in we can have almost anything we can tolerate including rice, pasta, bread etc. I just don't eat them much right now. May incorporate them later on. We just don't have much focus on calories. Focus is more on serving sizes and protein/fluid intake. Don't have any numbers for carbs or fat intake either. Only thing is how did you manage to eat 1200 calories post week 4? I am almost week 9 but I still can't manage to eat more than 750-850 calorie range. Either that or I need to figure out how to incorporate foods high in calories ? Only calorie rich food group in my diet would be cheeses I suppose. But I also don't wanna overshoot fat intake. How was your fat intake first few months?
  23. I usually can have some fruits per day. And fruits and veggies are great with fiber, helps relieve constipation. So no issue there. I was just curious how everyone did their thing. And yeh I am aware of your ultra low carb intake, we had this discussion on another thread. Just not sure how you did it ? I mean how did you manage to get your protein in 400 to 500 calories? Mostly protein shakes? I can't do Keto. I remember trying it few years before surgery, but I ahve hard time limiting carbs. As in I can't eliminate fruits completely from my diet for a true blue Keto diet (under 20 grams). I don't find Keto as sustainable for me personally. Hence I opted for surgery since it doesn't ask you to restrict any food group per se!
  24. Dairy isn't as minimal in carbs when you add all together ? I get most of my protein from dairy - ofc most are light, skim and less than 20%MF, but it still contributes. Veggies also have carbs and so do fruits. So they all add up. But ofc, these carbs are simple carbs per se and have loaded fiber and nutrients. So they healthy enough. I was just curious about others' carb intake because I don't think I wanna restrict fruits completely.
  25. Hmmm your numbers are almost double than mine lol. Though I am just finishing my month 2. I ahve tried upping my calories, but I usually fall between 750 to 850. I can't go beyond that. Plus with bypass pouch is little smaller than sleeve, so that kinda makes a difference in the quantity. My carbs are usually similar in number to protein. So between 70 to 80 gram (net would be 50 to 60 usually)!
