Five days out
I'm five days out and still really sore. Is that normal? Yesterday I didn't feel good, but didn't hurt near as bad as today. I was just having pain by my port but today it's all the way across my stomach. I have been getting myself up, which I know uses lots of muscles and I sneezed this morning which hurt like heck. I know I'm not getting all the protein I need, but I am so over shakes...I'm probably getting more like 30-40 grams a day instead of 60. I am drinking lots of water though. Any suggestions anyone has would be appreciated...I'm just ready to feel better!!

Post Surgery check in here
Well my surgery was Tuesday and I'm feeling better (finally feel like being on the computer). My surgery wasn't until 4:45pm and I was home before 10:00pm. Talk about an in and out surgery...it definitely made the first 24 hours hard, but I'm feeling better. I had a hietal hernia that they repaired (I didn't know I had it). I've definitely been hurting, but with each day it has gotten better. I'm getting tired of the artificial sweetner taste, and am going to try some V8 fruit fusion with protein powder. We'll hope I like it :rolleyes2: I know I need to get my protein in, but also know that all the artificial sweetner is sending my stomach over the edge. I have had the gas pain in my shoulder since I woke up in recovery. Hope all of my fellow June 17th bandsters are doing well! Best wishes to everyone who is at home recovering!!!

Well tomorrow is the day...I'm so excited, but the nerves are starting to kick in. I have to be at the hospital by 12:30 and am guessing my surgery is around 2:30. I'll be praying for all of my fellow June 17th bandsters...can't wait to post again when I'm on the other side!!

Self Pay - Did you pay for the extended coverage??
The girl called me from my doctor's office to tell me about an extended coverage plan I could purchase that covers complications (band erosion, port flip, band slip). It's almost $1000 for a year and about $1300 for 18 months. I really don't have the money, but at the same time, don't have the money for later on if the complications occur. Anyone have any advice or had to make this decision? Thanks in advance for any help!!

Flying with the Band??
This may be a really stupid question, but since we are talking about flying, I'm going to ask...can the metal in the port set off the metal detector at security?? Just wondering if anyone knew

I'm drinking carnation instant breakfast-sugar free and Slim Fast high protein. I alternate between them for breakfast and lunch. I get a small piece of fruit with lunch (I eat apple slices). Then for dinner I get two slices of whole wheat lite bread (I'm using weight watchers bread) and four onces of deli meat for dinner. I also drink 8 ounces of V8 juice. I can have not starchy veggies whenever I want, but am only having them when I really get hungry (I had green beans at 11:30 Thursday night ). I'm amazed at the weight I've lost. They did say that we would probably lose between 10 and 30 pounds in the 2 week period. I'd love to lose 30...what a start

Cathy, I'm so glad to hear things went well!! Congrats to everyone who has already been banded and good luck to those who are coming up this week. I'll be praying for comfort and healing for those who have already been banded and for those who are coming up to have little anxiety leading up to their surgery and a quick, completely complication free surgery once your day gets here!! I'm on day 5 of pre-op and it's getting easier...I've lost almost 12 pounds in 4 days!! Where has this diet been my whole life?!?!?! :( :Dancing_wub: Only 10 more days for me...I'm getting excited

Soon to be banded in Richmond
Hello everyone! I'm on day 3 of the pre-op diet...the first day wasn't so bad, yesterday was awful, today has been fine. I'm not a huge fan of the shakes, but can get them down. It's crazy to think this time in two weeks I'll be banded (and school will be over :wink2:). I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks for all of the support on here. This is such a great place to be!!

It's so great to hear everyone's stories. I have surgery in 12 days, which means I'm 2 days down on the pre-op diet. I don't know if I've ever been so hungry or so tired...I can do this though. I keep reminding myself of the how important it is. Good luck to everyone who will be banded tomorrow and Friday!!!

Soon to be banded in Richmond
Hey everyone! I teach in Mechanicsville (what a small world) and grew up here. I live near the airport now. I'm being banded on June 17th at St. Mary's by Dr. Elliot. I'm excited, scared...all that :w00t: I have my nutrition class on Monday and my meeting with the nurse practitioner on Tuesday. The pre-op diet starts Tuesday and I'm a little worried about it. Guess I can do anything for 2 weeks though :tt2:

Scheduled for June 17th
This sums me up in one sentence...I feel the exact same way. I wasn't planning on telling people I was having the surgery, but now having a date, I found myself telling a couple people at work. I figure I can come back in September and (hopefully) have people wonder what happened to me

Scheduled for June 17th
Hey Everyone! Donna, I'd love to see your sheet once it's typed up. I'm completely a list person as well...how neat that three of us will be being banded the same day. We'll be able to compare progress and stories :scared2: It will be great to have someone exactly at the same place I am!!! Thanks so much to everyone for all of your support and help!

Scheduled for June 17th
Wow, so I talked to my doctor's office today and my surgery is scheduled for June 17th. (I'm a teacher and finish June 13th.) I'm scared, excited, nervous, anxious. I'm a self pay patient and hadn't even considered this surgery until the middle of April, so this has all been REALLY fast. I have nutrition class on Monday and my physical on Tuesday...then it will be on the high Protein diet. I'm at the point where I just really don't know what to feel...it's too many emotions at one time. I've enjoyed reading all of your stories, they are very inspiring. Does anyone know where I can find a good list of foods to have in the house for after surgery (or do you think they will give me one). Thanks so much! :scared2: Jennifer

Twenties Chat
Hi Jamie...we sound so much a like...I'm also 28 (and a little more than a half), single for a long time, and have two dogs (one big and one small). It's awesome that you have lost 30 pounds in less than two months! I'm really getting excited about having my surgery. I can't wait to talk to my doctor's office on Tuesday, to actually set my date. I'm nervous, which I'm guessing (ok, hoping) is normal. I'm enjoying reading about everyone's successes. I can't wait until I'm sharing mine
