Katybug got a reaction from Nay143 in Full liquids too soon?
Hey guys, I'm new here and am 4 days post- op. Had a bit of a set back in the hospital and it delayed me starting full liquids until today. Well, I was super pumped for my Protein Shake. The hospital gave me a sample of Unjury. I mixed it up per directions and sipped it slowly and thoroughly enjoyed the chocolate flavor. Well about twenty minutes after I had finished half of it...I had to bolt to the bathroom. This has been happening all day now. Is this cause for concern? Do I need to switch back to Clear Liquids until I talk to my doc? Thanks for any and all help!

I'm on day 4 too! My tummy is also very quick to tell me when I have done something wrong There is a definite learning curve. I'm so excited though. I'm down 12 lbs and feeling great!

Cut your shakes half and half with water, may take longer but others have complained of choking on them thick and undiluted. Go to broth or another liquid you can stand, how about decaf or herbal tea? Warm works for some people, cool for others and some_(but Not Me) want everything room temperature. Room temp to me seems like drinking # 1but I confess that's just MHO after all.

Wow it’s so crazy how all the surgeons are different. I was only able to have clear liquids and protein drinks for a week. Then was full liquids- no lumps for a week. Now on week 3 to 6 soft foods/purée stage. Wonder why no clear protein drinks? I used the premiere protein clear. Good luck to you and I hope you figure out what is causing the issues.

The protein shakes are pretty thick. You can try some clear protein drinks for a few days before trying shakes again. It could be the shakes or meds even the lactose as said above.

you may be onto something with the lactose intolerance idea - it's not all that uncommon after surgery

I’m having the same issue trying to move to purée stage. Some days it’s great, some not so great. I just retreat to clear liquids for the next day and start over once everything calms down. Seems like it’s all trials and error since everyone is different, but I’d rather be safe than sick all day.

Oh ok then I would take @Orchids&Dragons advice about going back to liquids or try a plant based protein.

I’m on day 4! Learning how to deal with this new stomach. The only problem I have so far is dealing with pain from the incision that my stomach was pulled out of. I also made a “smoothie” earlier with whipped peanut butter, that was a big no. My stomach let me know right away. Other than that, I’m just sipping along ? Hope everyone else is doing good!!!

I'm 9 days post-op bypass. Yesterday I had my 1 week appt and I'm down 23 lbs [emoji4] I haven't been this weight in about 10 years. I'm already very excited that I went through with it!
I'm mostly meeting liquid and protien goals, walking my 10k steps/ day, and dr cleared me to ride my beach cruiser on flat trails.

Are you drinking drinking too much too fast? I'm almost 4 months out and it still takes me about 45min to an hour to drink a protein shake. They're very filling especially to a new stomach.

Clear liquids again until your tummy settles down. Sorry ? Then maybe try another brand or a different type of protein (i.e. plant vs. whey)
