Thanks so much Tilly!
I'm new to blogs so it's a confidence booster to be able to reach out and learn how to communicate with other patients. I'm not afraid of losing too much weight, but of the recovery time right after surgery and getting through the first month so any helpful hints you can give me about that would be appreciated. My date is May 18

Tilli13 got a reaction from summerseeker in Regret is normal and part of the process for manyI wondered after I was rapidly losing weight. At one point I cried so hard thinking I would wiggle down to nothing. My other half hugged me for a long time and explained that my body would hit a set point and stop there or around there. I contacted my bariatric program. They reassured me that this is a normal feeling but not to worry. That I have regular checkups and they closely monitor us. I still have those random thoughts even 18 months out.

Unfortunately I think that he might be right with this. However, I also think that it will be dependent on the area you're living in.
Anyway, I don't think I need to make any plans for having plastics anytime soon.

You can guarantee it's on hold. Once the state of emergency happens- all elective surgeries and procedures are postponed until after it is lifted. Already lived that reality here. I was april 1, state of emergency cancelled.it. now it's an indefinite wait. Most doctors are predicting July august before we get scheduled. Maybe june if we are lucky

STOP!
I can’t EVEN!
I can’t think about surgery delay to 2021 I will lose my mind
I was 3 days away.
Lisa I am so sorry about your situation. It’s really hard to make these arrangements and jump through the hoops and it’s all out of our control.
between sick parents and kids out of school and still trying to work at home while being a nurse and schoolteacher is extremely overwhelming.
my fear is that I will completely give up and revert back to my old habits not having the pool or gym to go to anymore, and my favorite thing to do is eat when I’m depressed, I don’t feel like going out for a walk or anything. Just stuck again
so I feel you I really do

We won't give up...... but we sure can complain about (until we feel better anyway )!!

Tilli13 reacted to Machalo in Corona delaying weight loss surgery dates? Anyone? My surgeon called me yesterday to let me know that my 4/13 date is postponed. He assured me that I will be given a new surgery date as soon as he's able to reschedule them. He thought we were probably looking at summer. I thought it was super sweet of him to call me himself. I feel for these surgeons whose paycheck is based off the number of procedures they do.
I'm disappointed, he has to be that and more. I'm grateful my surgeon is based out of a University hospital, so I know he'll get his base salary; and he's also a General Surgeon so he can take on other types of surgeries.
Hang in there everyone! Don't give up when you've come so far! Take it one day at a time, control those things you can, and then let the others go. I turn them over to God, but that is me and not everyone else. Take a few minutes and find your happy place; this isn't a rejection, it's simply a delayed gratification.
Wishing all the best to all of us! xoxoxo

I feel you. I fell off the wagon hard when they cancelled mine. 2 huge things in my life this year was finally getting my surgery approval and graduating college, and both are cancelled. Its feels like why bother?? Me being healthy isn't considered essential to anyone else so why should I care?? I'm in depression mode hard.
-
I'm sure it's depressing, and I would have felt the same way, but looking at this from the outside, they're trying to save people from dying from this stupid virus (or making sure they're ready to save them). Yes, your health IS super important and I'm sure they know that, but in the grand scheme of things, saving someone's life takes higher priority. I think if I were in your situation, in my mind I would have understood that - but yes, emotionally, I would have been pretty upset.
-
Mine was scheduled for April 24th and has been cancelled as well. My weight loss is necessary for my kidney transplant and now everything is on hold . . . I so feel for all those that are in this same boat, but we are all going to make it! Keep safe and soon we will be able to go outside with the knowledge that this is all behind us. Don’t lose hope.

Tilli13 reacted to Aroddy in Corona delaying weight loss surgery dates? Anyone?I had just started my process and was close to getting my surgery date. I just hope I can get my date schedule this year before I have to meet my deductible all over again. -
Me too!!! I’m frustrated but things could be worse. Mine was 3/18. Three days before they cancelled. Then it was 4/29
Now it’s nothing. I’m for
A revision.
I wish everyone health and we will all get there soon enough. Be well. -
Tilli13 reacted to JRT Mom in Any advice pre-opWelcome Tilli13! This site is a treasure trove of both good information but more importantly emotional support. Your picture shows you are a beautiful lady at any weight, but just imagine how much better you'll feel without having to carry all that excess weight around.
My doctor also doesn't require any weight loss. It doesn't really make sense to have to put off our surgery for 3-6 months if they aren't going to make us lose any weight. Think about how much closer we'd be to a healthier weight if we didn't have to wait. I know that rule is insurance driven, but it still doesn't make any sense to me...

Tilli13 reacted to AZhiker in Any advice pre-opThe best thing I ever did preop was to give up the addictive substances. I knew I couldn't have them after surgery, and getting past the withdrawal and cravings beforehand made recovery much easier. So, I gave up caffeine, all alcohol, all sugar, all soda, all artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors. I hadn't eaten wheat (gluten) for years, so that was not an issue. By the time surgery came around, I felt clean and detoxed. I did not eat the jello or popsicles in the hospital. I brought my own broth, herbal tea, and protein drink. Turned out they did have some great tasting gluten free broth that was fine.

Tilli13 reacted to AZhiker in Any advice pre-opThe other thing is to develop some little mantras to get you through sticky times and temptations. The most important one is "I AM NEVER GOING BACK!" This determination is a strong indicator of who will be successful long term. It means you are done playing games will will do whatever it takes.
Another is "I can't have that (food) right now, but I will have it later." (Delayed gratification is a good tool to develop.)
Another: "It's just not worth it." (When confronted with temptation of some stupid food that will undermine your progress.

Tilli13 got a reaction from FluffyChix in Any advice pre-opThanks for the advice. I am taking this very seriously and a life long thing. This is for my health (both physical and mental) not for looks. I am 54 and have stretch marks and cellulite. As I say, my badges of honor. So I am not looking to try and get into that bikini in a 20 year old body. I’m way past that. Looking forward to finding more support here.

Tilli13 reacted to TANK184 in Question about pre-op dietI think its a wide variety of difference based on your surgeon, I had to do a 7 day liquid diet to decrease my liver before the surgery. There are reasons that they ask you to stay on the directed diet to make things safer for the procedure.
-
Tilli13 reacted to No Thanks 2 Cake in Question about pre-op dietHello, I’m no expert-but I believe every doctor requires different things. Meaning, your pre-op instructions may differ from another persons. For example-I was instructed to do a 3 day liquid diet, and others that I know personally were instructed to do a 2 week liquid diet. As far as any tips/guidance that may help you later-I was instructed to get into the habit of not drinking while eating, taking bites of food the size of an almond, and getting into a constant habit of eating around the same times each day for my meals. You can also get a head start by eating clean, and protein enriched meals.
-
Tilli13 reacted to Diana_in_Philly in Any advice pre-opGet your head in the right place. Start working through why you are doing this and what your goals are. Use the time before your surgery to get your head in the right place - protein first. Water always. Make peace with the things you won't be able to eat frequently going forward. (I'm 3+ years post op - I can pretty much eat anything, but I pay a price for it. For example, I had a submarine sandwich from a place I loved after a fencing tournament this weekend and my stomach was upset for three days.) If you need to see a therapist about your relationship with food, do it now. Surgery is a tool to jumpstart your weight loss. The hard work will be up to you after the honeymoon phase. Best wishes.
