    Making progress

  3. I went to Dr. Spiegel's free orientation. He's very nice but his staff is another story. I was not happy with how the office is run there. Unprofessional and lost a lot of paperwork. I went with Dr. Robert Davis. It's been a wonderful experience so far.
  4. Hi all. I felt the same emotional roller coaster the first few days. I was banded on June 6 and made it through my first week! You do have to stay positive and focused on what the long term benefit is... A new healthier you. The first stages are scary...you have to be creative on the diet and think of new ways to put the foods together. Smoothies are great for the liquid/puree diet. Suggest you maybe enter a search on this page for mushy stage and you will find some great recipes. That helped me get through my first week. I also went to Chili's with my family today and had a cup of their Chicken Enchilada Soup (mashed the chicken with a fork). So you can have some fun with this stage...just be creative. Best wishes to you.

    Banded June 5, 2008

Hi all. It is so great to have support on line. I was banded June 6th so I'm 1 week out. I'm on the stage 3 puree stuff/soft diet too. It's so boring but so worth it in the end. I'm making oatmeal, soft scrambled eggs, smoothies, and low fat creamy soup. Trying to have fun with all this but have to be creative. Best wishes to everyone!!

  8. I was banded on Friday June 6th. So it gets better but the shoulder pain is so annoying. I use a heating pad and take extra strenght tylenol (one at a time). I can not carry my 3 year old. She climbs on me to sit on my lap & I tried to bathe her the other night but I wore myself out. My husband helped with lifting her & helping her dress after her bath. It's tough not to be able to carry your child. I think the lift restrictions are for 6 weeks. Hang in there!

    Almost Ready For Work

I have the same question. I'll be going back to work next Tuesday and planning to keep a stash of low carb slim fast, Water, yogart, pudding, cottage cheese & fruit at work. My office mate has a small fridge so that helps alot. I also want to buy a small portable blender or mini food processor to have on hand. Found some good ideas on this link: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f82/mushies-stage-recipes-17637/

    On the new road!

Hi! I was bended on June 6th and arrived home this morning. I feel okay just sore as heck on the surgical area. I'm walking a lot too and trying to limit the pain meds cause it just makes me sleepy. Best wishes to you!
  11. I had surgery yesterday and the pain is tolerable it's just the lifting restrictions. You will need someone to carry/load your luggage. The other thing is you have to keep moving/walking after the surgery so sitting on a plane seat for a duration of time may put you in more pain.
  12. I recommend going to an orientation; ask lots of questions and get more education on the different types of procedures. The work up can take 6 months or longer so get started on that part and see what your options are. Does your insurance cover the procedure or will you have to private pay? If anything you will gain more information on heathly lifestyle changes and if you do a 6 month medically monitored weight loss program; it will help you lose some lbs. Go for it and see where the work up will lead you. I had no idea I had sleep apnea until I completed this part of my work up. The nutrician consult was helpful also. Good luck!
  13. My surgery date is approaching (June 6th). :rolleyes2: My doc reccomended I begin the pre op diet 1 week prior to the procedure. What should I be doing (as far as dieting) in the mean time? I've been cutting down on fatty foods, crewing more, & making better food choices. Any suggestions? Also what did some of you do for pre-op diet? Did you buy Optifast products? Are there any over the counter or other shakes to use that are not so costly?
  14. Thanks for the info. My surgeon is Dr. Robert Davis (TLC Big medicine). I did a work up at TrueResults and when the work up was complete the staff at Trueresults said their surgeons would not work with my insurance. I went to my insurance company and was referred to Dr. Davis. I went to see him in Feb. and he recommended a sleep study. Did that in March. It's happening so fast and now my surgery date is June 6th. I have not gone to a support group yet. I really want to attend one soon.

    Have a surgery date! FINALLY

Hi! My journey begain in Sept. 2007 when I decided to go to a free weight loss seminar. I did a 6 month weight loss program and did Okay for a while. I figured just go on and do the work up and wait to see what happens. Sure enough my insurace approved the procedure! I had to do a sleep study and results indicated that I have mild-moderate sleep apnea. I had no idea. It's a blessing in disguise that I went for that free seminar and followed through with the work up. I thought if anything it will help me stay on track and take the path to a healthier lifestyle. With my suprise; the lap band is covered by my insurance and I met the medical necessity guidelines. I can't wait to play with my 3 year old daughter and ride amusement park rides with her! I also want to have another baby in the future and hope for a healthier pregnancy. With my daughter; it was problematic and I was on bedrest my last trimester. I had an unhealth placenta that cause more problems. My surgery is scheduled on June 6th Surgeon is: Dr. Robert Davis of (TLC big medicine)

  21. I have a surgery date!! June 6, 2008. I began my work up in late August 07. I can not believe I have a date. My insurance is covering the procedure. I was told to do a liquid diet one week prior to surgery. Any suggestions on how to follow the pre op diet?
