  1. I am home from surgery and doing well! I was scheduled for 1pm but think I went in shortly after 12. I was home at 7pm. I'm a little sore, the description people get of doing 1000 situps sounds about right. I'm pretty dopey right now, will tell more about it tomorrow or so!! Thanks for the good thoughts. I am so glad it's over!! Oh and the smaller band was too small so he put a larger one on with a 4cc fill already, does that make sense? Also he found a small hiatal hernia that he repaired, not sure what that is so am going to go try googling it now.
  2. JKPenny, We must be going under about the same time. I'll think of you. I leave in 20 min for the hospital. Good luck!!
  3. Kristi, I never heard of the lose 5% thing. Good luck!! Different dr. must require different things. However, you should do fine. I had my consultation with my surgeon on May 14, and had my pre op visit yesterday, surgery today, and I am down 12 lbs. since then. I've been on clear liquids for 48 hours that helped some. LOL
  4. Thanks, Janet!!! I was just thinking tomorrow at this time I might be at home and a couch potato already!! I hope so! Charlene, Glad to hear the shrink on that tv show is a nice person. Will you have both Davis' in your surgery or just the one?
  5. StrikeUp, glad you are doing so well. It's good to read those type of reports. ONE DAY TO GO FOR ME!! SURGERY TOMORROW!!!!
  6. Mekadig, I could've written your post almost word for word. Having surgery tomorrow as well. Having the EXACT same fears and thoughts. I fought so hard for this surgery and now second thoughts. Didn't make sense, but I think it's normal. My biggest fear is of failing as well, but this is different than every other diet you've tried. You still have to do the work, the band can fail if you don't, it's tool and if you use it correctly you will succeed. I had a similar experience last night about bypass patients badmouthing the band and it was at my dr.'s support group meeting. When I told him about it at my pre op this morning he wasn't happy and wants me to email him the details. The support group was for all weight loss patients, just so happens this one (went because it was last night and I just needed support because of all these thoughts) had mostly bypass patients. The normal facilitator was ill so there was a sub that wasn't a trained facilitator. She let a couple loud mouths totally take over the meeting. And they were saying how you couldn't be as successful with the band, you'd regain your weight, and could cheat around it. Well DUH!! you can't do that with the bypass? There was a man there at least 400 lbs that had bypass in 2002 and did just that, and regained all his weight. I chose the lap band because it was less invasive, I could always get a fill or unfill as needed for years to come. Remember you made this decision when you were more rational (by that I mean not the day before surgery and having all sorts of thoughts), you researched it, and more than likely had to fight for it. You chose it for a reason, remember those reasons and try and let the fear go. I say this for my own benefit as well. Good luck tomorrow!!
  7. No different Dr.s must do it differently. No letters here. Mine required you go to one of his seminars first which I did on 4/26, then I made a consult appt on 5/14, got all my pre op testing done, and having surgery tomorrow!! Just had my pre op today.
  8. WooHoo!! Our first surgery reports!! Glad you guys are doing great! That's what I like to hear 2 days before my surgery! I'm almost afraid to read the surgical accounts because I'm afraid I'll read something bad, but am glad I did cause they were good! Today is day one of pre op clear liquid diet, and I'm hungry, can't imagine what tomorrow will bring and then on Thurs. my surgery isn't til 1. Tomorrow is my pre op with the dr. and labwork at the hospital. Anxious to get that done.
  9. Charlene, I got cortisone in my knee and before I did I asked my lap band surgeon if it would affect my surgery at all and he said no. Of course, check with your dr. first and see what he says.
  10. Yes a little bit I guess, as here it is midnight and I'm on the computer instead of sleeping!! I'm a bunch of things, nervous, anxious, excited, scared, you name it. How about you?
  11. Hi Bella, I know what you mean, I went to my seminar 4/26, my consult appt on 5/14 and surgery will be Thurs 6/4. During the process it seemed long and tedious but now that it's here it was like Wow! I can't believe it's here already!
  12. Welcome Tonia, we have the same surgery date!! Good luck on Thursday!!
  13. Cathy, I start 2 days of Clear liquids tomorrow in prep for surgery. Just had to eat high Protein before that and watch my portions. I'm dreading that and then after surgery it's another 5 to 7 days of liquids. Good luck to you!! We can do this!! Here's to a sweet recovery weekend!!
  14. Woo HOO!!! I got the call today and my surgery was moved up a week, instead of the 12th, I'm getting banded on this Thursday the 5th!!!!! Tomorrow starts the 2 day clear liquid diet. Wed. is my pre op lab work and visit, then 1pm the next - SURGERY!! YIKES!! I'm scared, excited, anxious to have it done, etc. As for my knees I am starting injections of something called Synvisc (or something like that) it's made from rooster combs and is a gel to replace cartlidge in my knee. I am hoping I get pain relief from that and then as I lose weight it gets better too. They say 1 lb is like 3 to 5 lbs on your knees. I feel a little difference already with my little loss before surgery. I already cleared the injections with my surgeon that they were okay to get and wouldn't interfer with my surgery and he assured me it was fine so tomorrow is the first one. I am going to be so poked and proded by the end of the week!
  15. Now I am real excited. Surgery just got a week sooner, it's on the 5th instead of the 12th!!!!!!
  16. Just moved myself from the 12th to the 5th!! YAHOO!!
  17. :smile2::thumbup::w00t::scared2::eek::wink2: Just got a call, my surgery is changed!!! No longer on the 12th, I am going in on Thursday the 5th at 1pm. Liquid diet starting tomorrow!!! I'm so excited, scared, relieved, panicked, anxious, excited, you name it!!!
  18. Personally, I think superstitions only have the power you give them. To me it's just another date and therefore it has no power over me. Hey, I had my first date with my husband on a Friday the 13th, 34 years ago. I always call it my lucky day!
  19. What? No one else is excited? :confused2::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
  20. This is sure encouraging to read! I have severe osteoarthritis in my knee and it's about bone on bone. I've lost about 18 lbs so far and I can tell a little difference already, can't wait to be banded and lose even more. It's such a hinderance to exercise though I do go do a stationary bike and that's not too bad.
  21. Well Jazzy June bugs, it's our month. The first month of the rest of our lives!!! Are we ready? I know I am!! I am anxious to start reading our first reports of surgery, I've been reading some over in the Mays and it's been so helpful to read all the details of what to expect.
  22. As to vacations, I am not banded yet, but just got back home from an Alaskan cruise. There was food available 24 hours a day. It is possible. I tried to remember the guidelines my surgeon gave me, eat Protein first. Pretend your plate is a clock from 12 to 9 is protein, from 9 to 12 is fruits and veggies. Plus I walked a lot when I could (bad knee, bone on bone arthritis) and I came home only half a pound heavier!! I was thrilled with that! Tomorrow is a big day for me, I find out if my surgery gets moved up to this Thurs or Friday. Right now I am scheduled for the 12th but have all my clearances, am self pay, and have my funds. I am to call tomorrow and see if I can get scheduled in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Send some positive vibes for me! It's so close I can almost believe it's really happening!!
  23. Yahoo!!! It's June!! the first month of the rest of our lives!! Strikeuptheband; I hope they still do your surgery if you have no on to drive you. Is your MIL in the hospital? Hoping BF is able to come through for you! Good luck!!
  24. Wow!! 142 people being banded in June! that's amazing! though I don't know if that's normal or not since I am pretty new to the site. Guess what tomorrow is???? JUNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
