Mitzimom got a reaction from Nic C in GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+<br /> +Hey guys. Just wanted to check in with everyone! I seem to be stalled a little at 232ish. Ugh. A little over 100# down though! Everyone seems to be progressing well on here! I have found that I cannot tolerate 99% of meat and the vitamins made me sick so I am trying to get protein in with beans and quinoa and the few meat sources I can eat. I have started doing the vitamin patches which is really a God send! -

Mitzimom reacted to FluffyChix in Food Before and After PhotosDamn, I feel like I'm playing one of those Sunday morning comics games where you try to find the difference between 2 pictures of the same image. If I ate as little as you do, I'd eat whatever I damn-well wanted too. *sniff*
Yummy looking food though!

Mitzimom got a reaction from GreenTealael in To straw or not to strawOk. So my surgeon’s office says NO straws. I don’t know why of all the things I could worry about that I have picked this to fret about but I have. I don’t understand how you ‘swallow air’ with a straw any more that without one. What is everyone else’s thoughts on this? -
Mitzimom got a reaction from Frustr8 in To straw or not to strawThank you guys! I have super sensitive teeth so I have always used a straw. I am trying hard not to use one but I am just a little frustrated with it. I have a 32oz stainless cup like a yeti that I love (if my water isn’t cold I don’t like to drink it). I LOVE seltzer water and I have given that up. I am sure it’s just nervous nitpicking as the SD approaches. -

Mitzimom got a reaction from Orchids&Dragons in SmokingI quit in July of 2006 when I had my youngest son (no nasty comments about smoking while pregnant please- he’s a strapping 12 year old). I actually had my husband go home and throw away all the cigarettes and ashtrays from the house and cars. He then thoroughly cleaned the house and cars and let them air out. So when I came home there were no remnants of smoking anywhere. Both of my parents smoked so it was hard for the first month going to their house but it got better. My parents don’t smoke anymore (my dad has had trouble with bacterial and fungal pneumonia and my mom has had sepsis and was on life support and recently had a lobectomy to remove the upper lobe of the right lung because she had lung cancer). -
Mitzimom got a reaction from Orchids&Dragons in SmokingI wish you all the success in the world with Both! You can do this. You are much stronger than you think!?? -
It's the best thing ever. And being able to quit before getting ill is Even better. My grandma used to smoke 3 packets of cigarettes a day and she was forced to quit due to a stroke. I Will turn my life 180 degrees by getting the surgery done and quitting . I want to be fit and healthy. Thanks for your advice and support!

Mitzimom got a reaction from Frustr8 in Liquid diet (pre op)Frustr8 I don’t know if you are a pray-er or not but I definitely am I am praying for you. I understand those financial issues all too well. God will pave the way if we just trust in Him. -
Mitzimom got a reaction from Frustr8 in Liquid diet (pre op)I am so excited I can barely sleep at night! I have always been a big girl but I quit smoking in 2006 and that started the weight gain. Then I quit my job to be a stay at home mom in 2008(9) and that made it worse. Then in 2015 our daughter committed suicide at the age of 18 and depression and stress was the last straw. I now weigh 333lbs and can’t even remember being less than 300 anymore. I am still a stay at home mom and my son does online school so I am basically a homeschool mom too. I am also active with my church. I love to cook so I have always looked for ways to change things up - thus the questions about SF pudding and spices..... lol..... I am so sorry about your band turning on you like that! It sounds like you have had a rough go of it but seems like you are on the road to recovery both physically and mentally! When is your surgery date? Will be sending prayers before during and after! -
Mitzimom got a reaction from Frustr8 in Liquid diet (pre op)Wow newlife! Sounds like you have got this covered! Congratulations on the pre surgery weight loss! I am a soup person (I can have soup literally anytime 110 degrees or -10) lol. Are you having RNY or sleeve? I am having RNY on September 13. So excited to be sharing this journey with you! I am in Charlotte NC. Keep in touch! -
Mitzimom reacted to virginiaRN in Overheard Staff Joking About My BodyIf I wasn't an RN, I might not report it. But I feel just like I am a mandatory reporter of abuse for the elderly and children, I am a mandatory "feedback giver." Unfortunately, they crossed someone who knows all too well exactly what ethical codes they have violated, not to mention HIPAA. I will let them know in writing, likely the PA, the MD, and the office manager. And I will be discontinuing care with them.
I didn't want to add fuel the fire, but the PA's plan of care was completely inappropriate for my case. She wanted me to get allergy tested (right, b/c after 44 years of living, a brand new food allergy developed 2 weeks ago--yes, it can happen but it's unlikely.) And she recommended I take a medication with aspirin in it, which the MD expressly told all patients never to take. In fact, I have his printed packet stating not to take it. So odd. Having just gotten over a peptic ulcer d/t taking celebrex with nexium (also rx'd by a different PA)--which is not optimal to take as a bariatric patient, but is indicated sometimes, I am extremely leery of taking any NSAIDs or aspirin.
I can say that I did personally grow from this and will be even more on guard to protect my patients. But it is just sad that people who are trusted with the care of others are so blase about it. Anyway, thanks folks for your help! I feel better just being able to vent! I will let you know how it goes.

Mitzimom reacted to nibble in Need Advice on Talking to My Wife about WLS@PENGU1N-- It was hard to argue with the facts presented by a bariatric surgeon at the seminar I attended - "Obesity is a disease -- a chronic disease -- a chronic, deadly disease" -- those stark words really hit me between the eyes. Once that sank in, I was totally on board, and 6 months later, am 4 weeks post op and down #30. It starts with being overweight, then maybe you add high BP to it, then high cholesterol, then joint pain, or maybe Type II diabetes, and sleep apnea, and the list goes on and on. It's no magic bullet, but it's the best treatment medical science has to date. If you had cancer or some other disease, wouldn't your spouse want you to get treatment? The general public is slowly coming to terms with the notion of obesity as a disease rather than a self-imposed character flaw. Cancer is also not caused by a character flaw.

Mitzimom got a reaction from Frustr8 in Need Advice on Talking to My Wife about WLSI would definitely ask her to go with you to meet with the nutritionist as well so she can ask the questions she has - like the whole , well if you diet for 6 months thing- and the nutritionist can explain to her why that’s not enough for some of us. -
Mitzimom reacted to DaleCruse in Liquid diet (pre op)Herbs & spices have little, if any, caloric content. However, they can pack a lot of flavor! Unless your surgical team tells you otherwise, feel free to use them liberally!
Good luck. You are not alone.
