Harborgurl got a reaction from Krimsonbutterflies in Has anyone kept their surgery a secret?Same here. I almost feel like I am doing something wrong by keeping it private. -
Harborgurl reacted to Rocketman in February 2019 weight loss budsFigured I’d check in. Started at 255 in Feb, Down to 169 this morning. I pretty much can eat anything these days. Life is good, had this surgery to fix GERD, and i have no more issues with GERD. The weight loss has been a solid positive side effect. I am very fortunate that I dont have any skin sagging issues. I guess being 37 helps with that. I’m wearing size med/small shirts and size 32 jeans/shorts. I’ve been fluctuating at this weight for a month, seems stable, and don't really watch what i eat, and am obviously limited on how much i can eat.
Life is good, this surgery was life changing, and all my labs are way down in the good ways.

Alright, who was confused (emoji reaction) by my joke ???
Tough crowd...
?
I've lied to a lot of people (and told the truth to a lot of people too) the people ive lied to don't for a minute believe the BS I've told them.
To my face they tell me i look wonderful but best believe they are talking about me behind my back wondering which terminal disease i have.
The people ive told the truth were thoroughly satisfied because the mystery was solved with no work on their ends. The truth is just easier to maintain.
Sherlock Syndrome. People suddenly become MI-5 when they can't figure something out. I have inboxes filled with "hey cuz, i hope all is well..."
I thought i was maintaining my privacy. People are nosier now more than ever because the weight is staying off and sadly thats not common.
Good Luck fellow fibbers ☺

Harborgurl reacted to Domika03 in The psychological journey5/31/19
Oh, the journey I've traveled. It's been years since I last posted but I was such an avid contributor that I thought I'd "check in" again.
My weight gain started after a very depressing first marriage & continued on through single parenthood. By the time I met my current husband (of almost 20 yrs now), I guess I was comfortable with myself & my terrible eating habits. I'm not sure I can pinpoint the moment I decided to have the gastric sleeve, but like many, I got to the point where I was so damn depressed that I didn't even want to go out. I didn't want to be seen or noticed. I was incredibly embarrassed with myself.
Fast forward, I had my surgery around 2014. Became a weight loss facilitator hosting support meetings for newbies & post surgery. Started a demanding job that took me away from continuing the meetings only to wind up getting laid off 1 1/2 yrs later. Found a temp job but was very unhappy with the commute so I left.
Here's where you need to pay attention. I wound up unemployed for almost 7 months. I became quite depressed and, guess what gained 25 pounds back. UGH, how could this happen, right? Easy. I feel back into old habits. I didn't watch what I was eating & I certainly didn't pay attention to portion control. Granted, I didn't eat a lot in the sense of how much I ate, but it was enough. Don't think for a minute that weight loss surgery is a quick fix. It's truly a tool & you are responsible for making it work for you. We all gain weight for many different reasons but I feel it almost always is a result of a psychological journey we're going through.
Fortunately, once I was employed & allowed myself to become accountable to myself again, I started Weight Watchers. Yea, you would think I knew what I had to do to lose the weight again but I needed the support & something I could 'share' with others.
Here I am, 4 months later & I lost the weight. Pheww... I'm 5'2 and my average weight is around 142 pounds. I may start those support meetings up again in the North Denver area. MIght be a great resource for many as it was when I first did it .

Took me 50# to drop a size. So, it took me about 75 before people started noticing. Which is just fine with me. Now I'm losing sizes more quickly. I've also basically stayed in my same work dresses, so you can't really see the loss.
I've been out of the office on jury duty for about a month and I'll have lost about 20# in that time and needed to finally buy a few new work clothes, so it'll be interesting to see if anyone says anything when I go back.

Hi! I started at about 240, and when I got to about 200/190 is when people started making comments (all good things). I'm 130 now (I'll be a year post VSG in 2 weeks) and most people I haven't seen in the last year or so don't recognize me. I still have 10 pounds to go but feeling and looking better than I ever have!

Harborgurl reacted to allies journey in Favorite non scale victoryFrust8,
Your doing an amazing job and your so supportive of everyone on this forum.
My favorite part so is going from a 22w-24w to a 12/14 ladies jeans and not struggle to get in them. Going from a 2x to a L in blouses and all the compliments from my family.
It's hard for me to see the difference although 87lbs is about half of what I want to lose.
But I will accomplish this, I can do this and one day I am going to look in the mirror and say I got this!!!

Harborgurl reacted to Fluffy Grandma in Favorite non scale victoryI love clothes shopping now. It’s been a long time since I fit in every piece of clothing I bring into the fitting room. It’s no longer about what I can get on, but simply what I like! At a size 10/12, (from a 22/24) I can shop at pretty much any clothing store I want.

Harborgurl reacted to NYC_PAULA in February 2019 weight loss budsI'm in the same boat. I also had a lap band previously. I had my surgery on Feb 7th. I lost a lot the first two weeks and then it stalled. Now that I'm on stage three with food and have clearance for exercising I've noticed the weight is coming off a bit faster now about 3-4 pounds a week.
Hang in there. I know at least with me that there is a fear around failing with the second surgery, but I also know I did well with the band until it slipped and had to be removed. I'm hoping if I follow everything to a tee again I'll have the same results of success that will last this time since the sleeve can't slip.
Good luck! I'm in your corner.

Harborgurl reacted to Sheribear68 in February 2019 weight loss budsIt’s tough @Harborgurl , but we’ve got to keep going.
Just think back on how you pushed through your week 3 stall and keep a good thought.
Even if this one lasts a couple of weeks, there will be more loss on the other side -
Harborgurl reacted to Recidivist in February 2019 weight loss budsThanks, Gotta! Unfortunately, it's not getting better. This morning I blacked out and had a seizure, which has never happened in my life. I had already scheduled a 9:30 post-op appointment with my surgeon. She said that it might just be a case of severe dehydration and that i need to drink 80 oz of water every day for the foreseeable future.
I'm feeling quite discouraged that the moment, and I'm actually regretting having done this to myself. I hope I will look back on this in a year as a mere bump in the road.

Harborgurl got a reaction from GreenTealael in I liedIve kept mine a secret. Only person that knows besides my doctors and this forum is my husband. Ive had friends that are nurses make commentary about WLS and how people always end up gaining the weight back. Also, ironically at work 1 week before my surgery my coworkers were discussing WLS and they too had negative commentary. Thankfully I have other health issues so they think that is why I was out of work for 2 weeks. I use those other health issues as my excuse for not being able to eat. One of them being an ulcer. Which has actually been the truth. I cant have things that some WLS patients can have. Im truly on a very bland diet cause my ulcer is so bad. Just the way things worked out.
If they end up figuring it out, I dont care, as long as they keep their negative opinions to themselves.
