  1. Prefacing this with my past experiences. When I had my children I had a C-Section, and 5 weeks later I had an emergency laparoscopic gallbladder removal. I managed my recoveries fairly well and was able to care for two infants with little or no help on about 3 hours sleep. Of course, I was 20+ years younger. I work from home, no lifting required. I assume I might be able to at least do a few hours starting let's say day 4? My surgeon states plan for a week, but how quickly you return to work seems to have a relative relation to how much you love what you do. Business owners he stated usually go back as soon as they are out of the hospital. I'm sure this was a bit joking, but I'm guessing a week at most for me. I also have a low key trip planned what will be the beginning of my third-week post surgery. I'll be visiting my sister, she lives a couple of hours away and she is a doctor. My husband will be going along as well, and he will take care of me as well. How unrealistic are my expectations? The folks in my support group looked pretty lively after 1-2 weeks, so hoping this will all work.
  2. Prednisone sometimes kept me going, but long term it was horrible. I hope your surgery gives you relief, this disease just stinks!
  3. I'm having the Gastric Sleeve but it is my Rheumatologist who recommended the surgery. I'm allergic to NSAIDs, so Prednisone is my only "painkiller," but the side effects are awful so I'm not taking them any longer. I take a DMARD and a biologic but still my RA hovers between low severe and high moderate. He's had a few patients that have gone into remission, or at the very least able to control the RA. I don't see it as any other choice at this point, I want my life back
  4. I'm on methotrexate and Actemra. My Rheumatologist wants me off of them a full 7 days before the surgery, and another 7 days afterward, provided that I am healing well.
  5. My doctor doesn't require it. He told me they have no way to verify whether we follow one or not, so they don't bother. He said eat as I normally would, just don't go crazy.
  6. I'm scheduled for July 24th. It's happening much quicker than I anticipated, but I guess that is a good thing.
