  1. I’m really glad you found that funny because for me it was a nightmare not just for me, but for my family who saw me her up to go to a bathroom after eating mashed potatoes. It was embarrassing when our with friends, I made up excuses to run to the bathroom. It is not the worst case scenario, didn’t get heart burn, or indigestion. I could not even have water sometimes without being ill. When I took the band out, i was left with lots of scar tissue. I don’t slap down food with a fork either as suggested and in fact, I am quite healthy and fit. My BMI wasn’t as big as most peoples when I got the band to begin with. I’m glad you had success with yours and I wish I could have had the same, but thats your story not mine. So please don’t criticise me and perhaps stop for a moment and consider other people stories here who share the same as me.
  2. I’ve had a lap band and have since taken it out. What a waste of time. You won’t lose any weight and if you do, it’ll be gained really quickly. You will however throw up eating most meals. You will be uncomfortable in public, forever searching for toilets to throw up in, and feeling as though the food is stuck as it goes down. Yes, you can loosen the band and re-tighten it. What a waste of time and one of my biggest regrets. You are much better considering other weight loss surgery of that is the path you have chosen to take... please please please reconsider!!!!! Everyone I know who has had this has a very similar story.
  3. Hi (I posted this is post op questions by accident but wondered if I should put this here..) I’m a 43 year old female who weighs 75kg. I am 158cm tall and I had a gastric sleeve done in June 2017. I am apparently one of the few who has not lost a single kilo since my surgery. In fact, I was at 69kg when I got it done so if anything, I’ve put on 6kg since. My doctor has offered me a gastric bypass which I have accepted and booked in. I have a really sweet tooth which is my biggest issue. I just can’t stop. Just wondering, what is it really like to have a sweet tooth then suddenly get a bypass? If you had your chance, would you have gotten it or is this one of your biggest regrets? Please do not criticise me because you feel I am not heavy enough. I’m not here because I need someone to judge me. Everyone else, I can’t wait to hear from you. Regards Sad.
  4. Yup. Dictionary on here may have ‘fixed’ that up on its own...
  5. VirginiaRN, you sound like an amazing woman. I think most of us who are here have had some sort of back lash re out bodies. But guess what, they know nothing about your heart. It hurts when you do something to help others like you do and then get a slap in the face in return. Yeah it sucks balls to be honest. Don’t change who you are. They’ll get theirs in time I can assure you. You’re stronger than you think, don’t let these in-important people get you down. Be positive, forget them and concentrate on you. :)
  6. I’m suffering hair loss however stated taking silica tablets. It’s not falling out as much as it did prior. I still am getting fall outs but nowhere near as much. I take one tablet daily.
  7. Ps. No idea how to edit or anything here but I forgot to add: A few years ago I would have worried about all that stuff. Going to hell and back makes you realise that those people are not important. You are, and the ones that love you are. Don’t let them get to you. It is human nature for everyone to comment on everyone whether it is complimentary or not. Some people are just more horrible than others. They will have forgotten about it by now and although you don’t, you are the only one who can change it. Do something for yourself and put your energy into that. I’m sure the manager will respond to them especially if it’s in writing. Then.... move on. X
  8. I’ve been through hell and back. What would I do? Let their boss know, get over and move on. You don’t want to spend all your good energy hitting over someone who is not really all that important in your life. It’s already happened, you can’t change a thing. What you can change is your way of thinking. Place your energy onto something you enjoy rather than these idiots.
  9. Kimber628, gosh. Thank you for sharing your story with me. I felt as though I went to hell and back. I’m glad you’re feeling better now. I’m so scared I’ll never get better again.. I’m so confused about so many things now. What happened in that 6 months for you?
  10. Oh and i forgot to mention I also got pneumonia which lots of fluid on my lungs rendering it’ll one to part collapse. Breathing in or out was excruciating.
  11. Hi Badjan. I wish I’d read this before I had my surgery. I didn’t know those therapists existed and I would def have gone that path. I’ve posted my journey on another thread, basically I went in for my three day bypass and hospital stay and well, 3 weeks on and I’m still in hospital. Had the most horrific complications. Yup. I’m the 1% chance that can have complications. Anyhow, have a read. It is a very brief summary...

  13. Hi Lindy, I have actually done that before via a diet called Keto. It’s quite successful and yes, the withdrawals are crazy and the migraines even worse. It is def worth it. So..... I had my bypass on 10 July everyone. It’s the 27th of July and I’m still in hospital. A day after surgery, I had major tummy pain. All obs were done however, nobody picked anything up because everything (blood pressure, ecg, oxygen etc) were normal. So after 3 Medical Emergency Team calls at my bedside, fainting, bed hopping in between ICU and normal wards, it turned out I had leaky gut. So in for surgery I went again. I came out with drains, nose time down to my stomach and loads of everything else into my arm. I have a pick line which all my meds go through and been fed nutrients the same way. If anyone is un familiar with a pick line, it is a mega canula that goes to the main artery above your heart. I have been nil by mouth for 2.5 of the 3 weeks I’ve been here. And guess what. I put 8kg on in a single week of fluid. Then I lost it. And yup. It sure as hell went that I didn’t not lose any weight doing that either. Lol. No food the whole time and i lost nothing. I have to say this though, the reason I didn’t show any signs in the obs was because I was so healthy. Losing weight at this stage is the last thing on my mind. I need to get healthy again to be able to lose weight properly and not be because I am sick. I am more appreciative of carrying that little bit extra because it got me through. Basically, even. The doctors were very concerned. I’ll be here a while still however I appreciate my body so much more than I ever have.
  14. Thanks for your replies everyone. I’ve read every single one and taken into account all of your responses, advice and concerns. I feel like this GERD isn’t something I’ve looked into prior so I’m Going to see the doctor. Heavy GERD meds don’t achieve anything for me. Wow could this be it!!! I don’t even have to eat to have it really bad. I think being able to recognise where I’m going wrong helps. Anyhow I’ll keep you all posted xx
  15. Hi Taoz. Thanks for your reply. ThE GERD is so bad I can’t even explain it. Even strong meds don’t seem to control it. Prior to surgery I’d never experienced this however post op, it’s been quite bad. I have had a fizz test and it came up higher than most I believe at about 95cc. Most start points are in the 60’s. I can eat a lot and then I’m hungry 20 mins later even if I am full. It’s horrible. I actually don’t want to do this surgery but I feel like I’m going downhill. I’ve never been this hungry and I’m gaining more weight than I ever had.
  16. Sleeved36. I take what you have said on board. I don’t really want to do this surgery however it’s how you feel in your skin. I’m trying again as we speak. Thank you for your feedback. I’m not taking it as a negative, I’m looking for responses with people who have had this surgery. :)
  17. Bajansleeve, thank you. I think no matter what size one is at, there are those insecurities and you’re right, there is that aha moment. And I’m there. I have 13kg to lose and I just need to do it. The doctor believes I have a hormone imbalance. I think he did the surgery and thought, ‘hmm she’s not big enough’ and took less out. It’s left me with chronic GERD which I’ve never had. I don’t even have to eat anything to get it and it comes on strong when I don’t eat or feel hungry. That hunger comes back 20 mins after I’ve eaten a full meal and I try discipline myself but then cave in. Together with doing 14 hour shifts and I’m quite active at work, my habits will always change. And not for the better. So yes. That calorie allowance can go out the window. Oh. And I can eat a full meal like everyone else. Where’s my sleeve? Lol. I hope things are working the way you want them too. Again, thank you.
  18. And yes! I could do with some sort of counselling for this periods I go through where my sugar addiction is high. I won’t deny it.
  19. Hi everyone. Thank you for your replies and support. I’m ready to make a change however I suspect there’s something else going on to be honest... I’m trying to learn as much as I can before I go ahead. Sarhgrif hit the nail on the head by stating that she had to hold herself accountable. I have my days where I want to fulfil every sweet tooth in my mouth however over I do eat well. I try to stick to sugar free most of the time and am active. There’s something more to this and even the doctor can’t understand it. Someone mentioned ulcer/gastritis which I’m keen to investigate as I have some funny tho ha going on like severe cramping, severe gerd when I haven’t even eaten and a few other things.... thank you for opening my eyes up to things i didn’t understand prior to being here.
  20. Ps. Bryn910, I get heartburn so bad when sometimes I haven’t even had anything at all. And yes even a sip of water can make it much worse for me too......
  21. Hi everyone. Thanks for replying. I don’t disagree with you all however my sweet tooth probably came across as a little exaggerated than I actually meant it to be. Yes I have a major sweet tooth however I don’t hog into a block of chocolate topped with sprinkles and donuts each day (although I could easily go that lol.) I generally eat quite healthy. I eat lots of protein and of recent times switch in and out of keto dieting which allows me to balance. I’m Also quite active. If I didn’t I would be the size of three play boy mansions put together complete with an Olympic sized pool and field. For me, that means strict keto is done with no sugar and low carbs, two weeks at a time and the feeling of being in ketosis is great. I use this to maintain so although I go through periods where I am addicted to sugar, I can also stop with some real will power. Is it my weakness? Absolutely. I do need a detox every now and then as suggested and possible some counselling. I’m not choosing an easy way out. However, I do know how I feel. I feel it is more. I haven’t lost any weight even when first operated on. That’s a strict diet I followed. I have severe GERD since the moment I was sleeved, I felt it in hospital. I also felt immediate hunger when I woke up. I am able to eat as much as my friends but not more. My fizz test proves that too. I think Frustr8 has made some very valid points. I don’t know but things you state sound so familiar to me. I’d never even have considered an ulcer which is highly possible. I have had severe pains in my lower left side of the stomach since the op in the form of cramps, I push my fingers in or go into the foetal position. Hunger is a constant feeling and I noticed this only the surgery as I was never this hungry before surgery. Ever! I get a sensation of severe heart burn if I don’t eat. Frustr8, I used to take nurofen plus for years as I have chronic migraines which I’ve stopped. Been off them for a year. I didn’t even know about gastritis and excessive acid. It’s all new to me. It’s not my go to excuse either but one thing is happening that isn’t right. The doctor has not gone Into that either but I’d like to investigate that. Thank you for allowing me to giggle Frstr8. In the last few months, (please excuse this bit.. frustr8 tell me if u had this...) my stool has gone from normal to well very soft. I don’t have diarrhoea however it ends up looking like that with blood now. This is why I wonder if I have an ulcer... with the cramps... Thank you everyone for your replies. It is all taken on board and I’m able to dissect and re assess what is happening. All in all, if it isn’t that and just the sugar then I am willing to make that change. I’m not counting on the dumping, in fact I was surprised to hear people hoping to have more of it. I was actually scared of that. Like shit scared. But you guys have educated me a little more and I now know what to expect.... :)
  22. Yay! Thank you for replying. I thought I was the first person in history not have lost weight cause everyone else seems to be a success story. Depressing! The day I had my gastric sleeve surgery I was hungry. I mean starving. Now I’m starving all the time, even when I’m full. Oh. And now I have heart burn which I’ve never had in my life. I can’t explain it. So to hear your story I am grateful for your reply. Please keep me posted. I’d love to hear on how you go as opposed to how you were before with the sleeve. Were you like me when you had the sleeve?? I hope to lose the hunger as you have said when I get mine? Gosh. I’m still even deciding if I should.
  23. Ps. I think I’m the first person in history to have a gastric sleeve done and not lose weight. Can you believe it???? Lol
