  1. I was sleeved on April 18, 2018 by Saurabh Khandelwal M.D. at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle WA. Dr Khandelwal is the Director of the Weight Loss Center. He explained what was happening both before and after surgery and easy to understand terms.

When did you start losing hair?

I’m finding that it started about 3.5 months after surgery. I was sleeved on April 18, 2018, luckily I have thick hair but it is disturbing to me.
  3. My surgery was April 18, 2018. I have lost approximately 27 pounds since then. I found that if I started weaning myself off of certain foods and substances such as sugar and caffeine Before I needed to, it wasn’t too bad. You can do this!
  4. I am in Renton, but I go to a meeting on the first Wednesday of the month and one on the third Friday of the month at UW at Roosevelt. Wednesday is for pre and post surgery and Friday is for post surgery.

    Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!

Congratulations on quitting smoking, I know it’s very difficult. I was sleeved on April 18, 2018 and I’m finding that fried food smell and sugary bakery smells are making me nauseous

    Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!

I hope this goes away soon… I made salmon last night for dinner and it made me very sick as did the fresh shrimp and crab I had at lunch. I had salmon a few days ago and I was fine… It’s hard to know day today how things will affect me

    Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!

My sense of smell is intensified and I get nauseous, and my taste buds have changed in that some foods that I like to previous to surgery I can’t handle or don’t like

    Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!

I had two weeks of full liquid and the surgeon reluctantly let me go onto soft foods. In the two weeks of full liquid I was nowhere near getting the amount of water or protein because I wasn’t able to handle it. I’ve just started soft foods yesterday and so far I’m eating but have to learn how to eat really slow . I was unable to handle Protein shakes and most liquids, therefore I was admitted back to the ER for fluids.

    Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!

Thank you. I just got another refill of Zofran, but I may see about the patch as well. Luckily I’m not taking the pain meds any longer. Just Tylenol.

    Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!

I can relate to this. I am 12 days out and my throat is still a little sore, and I still get a Lotta gas. I’m finding due to the Lovenox injections twice a day I get nosebleeds more often, they stop, but it cakes up inside my nose. Congratulations. I drove my car for the first time today since before surgery and I am exhausted.

    Any April surgery buddies

I’m so sorry to hear that. Just keep a close eye on everything and contact the surgeon ASAP. I ended up in ER because of gas, Heartburn, and the inability to take in enough liquids and protein, as well as a continual low grade fever.

    Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!

I’m doing better thank you. I’m still not able to get all of my liquids or protein in, but I am just doing what I can. I’m not really in pain, but the nausea is still there, and last night I had dry heave‘s. It’s just going slow. I’m sorry to hear about your issues and hope you are doing well. My regular doctor just increased the amount of heartburn medication for me to take and refilled the nausea medication. Hopefully this helps

    Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!

I’m glad I’m not the only feeling this way. I am still having issues with nausea as well after both hydrating liquids and protein. I am 10 days post-op

    Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!

I went through the University of Washington program. I had been doing weight watchers on and off for many years with success and then I would gain weight back. My surgeon just said that the insurance might have a problem because I was so close to the lowest end of the BMI before surgery.

    Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!

I had my surgery on April 14, 2018. I also did not to do the preop diet, only the day before. I also felt like I wanted to eat like it was the last supper, no pun intended. The surgeon had set my weight loss before surgery at 11 pounds which was 5% of my bodyweight, And I ended up losing about 30 pounds. My surgeon urge to me at my preop appointment to not do the preop diet, and to maybe try to gain a couple of pounds so I wasn’t as close to the lower end of the BMI

I still get a lot of gas building up and was told by the surgeon to take something like Gas-X

    Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!

I am almost a week out of surgery and I’m still having trouble with protein and my hydrating liquids. I ended up going to the emergency room yesterday because I felt like I wasn’t getting enough fluids and proteins, and if I drink more than about a tablespoon or two I get really bad heartburn and gas. The gurgling in the stomach Is also annoying. After a bunch of tests, everything seems to be OK, and I received some IV fluids before coming home last night. My surgeon told me not to worry as much about meeting the full amount and just to do what I’m able to do. Everybody handles the surgery differently. I had a sleeve gastrectomy

I came home from the hospital emergency room late last night. I was told just to try to get in as many liquids as I’m able to.

    Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!

I had surgery on the 18th of April and was released from the hospital late on the 19th. I am having trouble eating/drinking enough hydrating and protein due to pain and nausea. I spent yesterday in the emergency room getting fluids. I spoke to the surgeons and they have told me just to try to get in whatever I am able to. They also told me to take simethicone for the gas.

    Any April surgery buddies

I had surgery on 4/18/18 and everything is causing nausea and heartburn/cramping. I also am running a low grade fever on and off, I am constipated and I have a few red splotchy areas near the incisions. I spoke to the surgeons office they suggested I come in. I am on my way to the emergency room now

    Any April surgery buddies

Thank you for this information. I am finding the only thing that is doesn’t make me nauseous or cause gas pains is about 2 oz of broth. I am on my fifth day out of surgery and I’m finding it quite painful. I will call my nutritionist and registered nurse tomorrow morning and find out what they suggest

    Any April surgery buddies

I am now 5 days out 4/18/18. As stated above it is a learning experience to see how much you’re able to drink at one time without gas and heartburn. Yesterday was a bad day nausea wise and soreness wise. Today doesn’t seem to be as bad in that respect, but I am finding it difficult to get enough protein and liquids down so far.
