    August 2023 Surgery Buddies!

I have not done well on the preop diet while traveling to move my daughter to college this week. I will let my surgeon know and see if she still wants to keep my surgery date. I’m a revision and she almost didn’t put me in the preop diet. I am back home on Subday and will have 5 full days to follow it without any hiccups. I am worried.

    August 2023 Surgery Buddies!

I should have mentioned in my initial post that I had a sleeve in 2018. Had horrible GERD since and also never lost the most weight that my surgeon said I could possibly lose. Fast forward through COVID, loss of a family member, major job change l, etc etc - I actually gained almost ALL of the weight back. It very embarrassing. I would have never thought that I would gain it all back - ever. As the day goes, never say never. I have a new surgeon now and she is amazing and did not make me feel like a loser. Since I have GERD and never lost to my potential, and have the hiatal hernia, I am having a revision to gastric bypass on 8/11. My highest weight was 250 and my lowest weight after sleeve was 169. I’m 5’4”. To say that this second chance means everything to me is an understatement. I haven’t even told anyone (besides my husband) that I’m doing the revision because I’m so embarrassed.

I have my sleeve revision to bypass on 8/11!
  8. I had the sleeve in June 2018. My weight on surgery day was 242. I got down to 169 and not a pound less. I’m 5’4”. I never got rid of the GERD, which I had before the sleeve. In hind sight, I wish I had the bypass and not the sleeve initially. I a, scheduled to have a revision to bypass on 8/11. I am also scared …. But I am so tired of the extreme GERD and the damage that it’s doing. I have had significant weight regain from my sleeve - gained ALL back. The regain is very depressing. It’s to the point that I avoid social situations and am just down on myself for the regain 24/7. Hindsight is a b!tch. I’m ready for the revision and know that I will feel better without the GERD. Second chances aren’t to be taken lightly and this is mine.

Rest day for squats today, but I still had my work out at Orange Theory. I love that place! I have a nice pile of clothes in my closet that is ready to donate. I have donated so many clothes since this journey began. It feels amazing!! With fall coming, I’ll need to get some clothes that fit for the weather. I got a lot of cute dresses for summer this year and I where heels everyday .... neither of which I used to even think about wearing “before.” Heels used to kill my feet, knees and back. I’m short and short waisted, so had a lot of trouble finding dresses that would work. Now, I love to wear them. I try buy all of my clothes on clearance or thrift store. I need some motivation to get 20 more pounds off ladies! My trouble time of day is evening when I get home from the gym. Have a good night!

Day 2: catching up with a friend... does my hubby count, lol? We are busy with 2 teen girls that both have sports, music, etc. I plan to spend the day catching up with him, lol. We sit often have days that we can just hang and chat. Squat challenge: I have been going to Orange Theory Fitness and LOVE it! If we don’t get the squats for today in my class, I will do them right after. I ate pretty bad this weekend and feel so tired of bad food today! I plan to track all of my food and get my water in today and I am just about to do my OTF class in 10mins. I’m at a point in my weight loss journey that I feel really good and people tell me how great I’m looking ... this makes me sometimes not be as on point with food as I need to be. I still want to lose about 20-25 pounds and need to track food everyday to do that. So thankful that this group was created! Have a great day everyone!

    June Sleevers Lets Get Excited!!!

My surgiversary was 6/6. I’m down 85 pounds from my highest weight. I had A LOT of hair loss in the first 6 months , but I now have a lot of growth! I weigh 169 now and want to get to 150 ... but I’m losing very slowly. I have been working out at Orange Theory Fitness 2-3 times per week and recently started running. I surprised myself and ran 3 miles without stopping yesterday! My pace was 10:30/mile .... back when I weighed at least 50 pounds more a few years ago, my pace was 13:57/mile. I could definitely feel the huge difference in how I felt running after losing all this weight so far. It felt AMZING!!! I hope that everyone is doing well!
  16. I am almost 6 months in - surgery date was 6/6. My pre-surgery diet weight was 254. My weight the date of surgery was 241. I currently weigh 188. I have been stuck for a few weeks. We did a week at Disneyland, including Thanksgiving, and I didn’t gain. ... but didn’t lose either. I am determined to get down to 180 by Christmas.
  17. I had sleeve surgery on 6/6. I eat about 800cals per day. I can eat about 1/2 cup at a time and I’m getting about 80g of protein per day.
  18. I had surgery on 6/6 and still never get hungry. I was getting dizzy ... then realized I had not eaten in a while. Now, I set a timer on my phone. So bizarre compared to pre-surgery!

Are you eating enough calories? I feel that I am losing pretty slow as well. My surgery was 6/6. On surgery day, I weighed 241. I weighed this morning and I am 219. I saw the dietician a few days ago and she said that I need to eat more calories. I was eating between 500-600 and she wants me to eat between 700-1000 and start 30 mins of exercise everyday that includes some strength training. I was also not eating enough fat or carbs ... which she said contributed to my very low energy. So, I have eaten just over 700 the last two days and have added some healthy carbs and fats and I do feel a bit more energy overall. I think I am going to try the Aaptiv app for my workouts because getting myself get to the gym sounds like a lot right now. I have an elliptical machine and dumbbells so I want to try the app and see how I do.
  20. Congrats! The fist 3-4 days post up were rough for me. But feeling fantastic now at about 5.5 weeks post op

    June Sleevers Lets Get Excited!!!

The scale started moving again! I have lost 1 pound each of the last two days! Whew! I’m down 14lbs since surgery on 6/6 and down a total of 27 pounds since preop diet. I’m about 3.5 weeks post op. I still have a tough time tolerating a scrambled egg, but egg whites are no problem. I’m still on mushy food. I had a Trader Joe’s meatless meatball (mashable with fork) with nf ricotta and a Tbs of sauce last night for dinner and it felt like a normal meal. I went back to work this last Thursday and I was so busy that I forgot to eat .... until I got dizzy and was like, “oh yes, I need to eat.” This is a huge difference from preop days. My life and days were planned around meals. I ❤️ My sleeve!

    June Sleevers Lets Get Excited!!!

My sleeve surgery was 6/6. I have lost 12 pounds with very little movement on the scale this whole last week. I am doing 70-80g of protein/day, walking 60 mins/day, getting about 72oz water and between 500-650 cals/per day. I was wondering the same thing. I had my post-op appointment last Thursday and the surgeon told me if I stay the course, I will be below 200 pounds at my 3 month check-up. I’m 229 as of today.
  24. I was in the hospital for two days. On the third day when I got home, I would say around 30-40oz of actual water; but my protein shakes also counted toward fluid goals so maybe about 50oz if you include protein shakes. It was tough at first to get all the water in but each day I was able to do just a title more than the day before. I’m up to about 72oz now and two week post op.

I’m same with calories. I’m between 60-70g of protein the last few days. Water I have increased to about 72oz.
