DeanaNJ got a reaction from bluebellblue in Restriction Years Out From SurgeryI am 4 1/2 years out. For me it depends on what I’m eating. Generally, I can eat more now than after surgery. My surgeon told me to eat when I’m hungry, stop when I’m full. I have pretty much followed that. I’ve lost 125 lbs.

DeanaNJ reacted to fourmonthspreop in Negative comments from family membersI really appreciate it everyone. I do my best to ignore but some days it gets to me. I have a therapist so we talk about it as well. I've done 10 months now of counseling and will continue throughout the whole bariatric process.
I told my family last night that I didn't want to deal with my problems the same way they do. They have issues with alcohol and my brother with both food and alcohol. They've refused to get help my whole life. It annoys me even more because I went out, got a psychiatrist, psychologist, dietician, surgery etc. And im still told you might fail, what makes this any different? Like look, I'm getting help...something they REFUSE to do for their problems. I REFUSE to be just like them. I really do appreciate the kind words of encouragement from everyone. I won't let their negativity stop me. I can't wait till I'm a year post op and they shut their traps. [emoji38]

DeanaNJ reacted to summerseeker in Negative comments from family membersThere are many, many people on here who keep there weight loss surgery a secret. That way you get less negative comments. I told my husband and son. Its no one else's business. You can't unsay it now so you need to just smile and say the statistics are in my corner this time, even if you , my brother are not. Be strong, you got this and us on here. PS. I always know what to say, 10 minutes after I need it

DeanaNJ reacted to toodlerue in Negative comments from family membersI’m sorry your family is being so negative. You are trying your best! Sometimes we all just need a kickstart so tell them to shut their pie hole!
I hope you seek the help of a professional who can help you deal with all the things your family makes you feel. You are doing it for yourself with or without them! Maybe you should distance yourself from them (at least for a time) if that is at all possible. Then go prove them wrong!!!!

DeanaNJ reacted to Hop_Scotch in Negative comments from family membersTime to assertively tell these people that your weight loss, weight or any related dietary/food intake is no longer up for discussion. If they continue to bring up these matters, restate your position and change the subject.

DeanaNJ reacted to The Greater Fool in The stomach left behind...Actually, I think it is this sort of simplified picture that spawns the question. A lot of detail is left out that leaves things "hanging in mid abdomen" as it were. To understand the concept of surgery, we don't really need all the complicated detail.
However, the more complete and scaled 'before' picture shows how there is a lot more going on around the stomach, so not much room or direction for things to move about willy-nilly.

DeanaNJ reacted to dms75 in The stomach left behind...From here:

" What happens to the lower part of the stomach that is bypassed?
The stomach is left in place with intact blood supply. In some cases it may shrink a bit and its lining (the mucosa) may atrophy, but for the most part it remains unchanged. The lower stomach still contributes to the function of the intestines even though it does not receive or process food—it makes intrinsic factor, which is necessary to absorb vitamin B12, and contributes to hormone balance and motility of the intestines in ways that are not entirely known. DeanaNJ got a reaction from locabecola21 in C diff infection post surgeryMy friend who is a nurse told me to crush pills as fine as possible. Put in a shot glass. Add hot liquid, I use tea, to dissolve. Use as little liquid as possible. Pour orange or pineapple juice in shot glass. Down it like a shot! If there is residue just pour more juice in to get it all. This works for me. Hope it helps!

DeanaNJ got a reaction from FluffyChix in sugar levels after bypassNot if you watch your carbs. Did you see a nutritionist before your surgery? Or do you have one available? For some, Type 2 Diabetes can be managed by diet without medications. However, there is no guarantee the surgery alone will do this. You might want to learn more about this awful disease you and I are stuck with for the rest of our lives! I don’t say that in judgment...sounds like there is alot you don’t understand.

DeanaNJ got a reaction from FluffyChix in sugar levels after bypassI had RNY on April 2 2018. It took 2 months before I could stop all meds for diabetes. Hang in there!

DeanaNJ got a reaction from Deemar007 in Mashed potatoesI can’t believe the judging going on here! I lived on instant mashed potatoes my first 2 weeks post op! And after 4 1/2 months I will still have some if my stomach is feeling iffy! The quantity is nowhere close enough to do any harm! Do what works for you! Congratulations and continued success!

DeanaNJ got a reaction from Frustr8 in Top 3 tips for Managing Pain Post-opI had RNY Apr 2, 2018 and did not have or need a binder or gel packs. I was walking unassisted same day and went home day after surgery. It was laparoscopic so I’m guessing between that and your hernias are huge differences!
