Heaviest weight 356. Weight before surgery 313... Weight since getting surgery October 6th...drumroll please........279! Woot woot! 23 lbs toil I hit 100 lost! About 3 to 4 weeks after surgery. I didn't lose weight for about 3 to 4 weeks... I was freaking out. I felt defeated like I was doing something wrong but then I looked back and realized I was doing every single thing exactly how it was told to be done... I know we're not supposed to doctor Google but I looked it up and The three week post-operative stall is actually a thing! It happens to most people that get bariatric surgery and it can last anywhere from two weeks to 5 weeks roughly. It is simply your body and metabolism getting used to your new stomach... But I'm back on track and happier than ever with the decision that I've made. Just thought you guys deserved an update for the ones that are rooting for me! The ones that think this was the easy way out. It's okay. You're entitled to your opinion, but you're definitely wrong... It's been a lot of work and dedication. It's been pain and hunger at times, but for the most part it's been the best experience I've ever put myself through for my own self-love and care. I started routine to take care of myself such as putting makeup on every day for work and doing my hair for work. These things sound small to some people, but for somebody like me that suffers with depression that's huge. So if you're not proud of me, I sure am! To the left is April at my largest weight. I have no full body pictures because I was so ashamed of myself... To the right is me last week... Progress not perfection.. how is everybody else doing for my October?

    Hi Everyone!
I'm feeling motivated to give an update on my pregnancy. At 17 weeks, I have determined that my nausea and discomfort after eating sweet foods is in fact dumping and not morning sickness. I was confused by this because I had not attempted to eat sweet foods prior to my positive pregnancy test - which I was already 7/8 weeks before the morning sickness that I was experiencing at night (minus sweets) registered as possible pregnancy. My surgery was March 8, 2022 and my LMP was July 11, 2022.
So far, I have gained 7 pounds and I feel good about this number but I would be lying to you if there wasn't a mental aspect to seeing the scale moving in the opposite direction that I have worked so hard to get down. I understand this is mostly just baby and all that being pregnant entails - but it's still a battle field. For my last pregnancy, which ended in loss at 26 weeks, I had gained approximately 40lbs by this stage.
I am listening to my body and eating when I need to eat. I'm surprised at how easy it has become for me to hit my protein goals, I guess I have just found what works for me. The calorie goals follow naturally if I hit my protein goals. I still have to be careful to not over indulge in unhealthy options or give in to my cravings when they occur. I realize that if I just eat something (preferably within my macros) when I'm feeling that craving, it usually removes the hunger and the craving at the same time. I still have great restriction and I'm thankful for that - though my eyes and head often have me order way too much when eating out. I always have left overs that I don't always eat after taking it home.
My pregnancy is moving along with no issues so far (knock wood). I have experienced some much loathed constipation and as a result have been incorporating Metamucil throughout the day and a meager portion of high fiber cereal each morning to counter act this. The doctor said Milk of Mag was too strong to take. I'm still on daily iron which hasn't helped this issue one bit, but I'm sure is helping baby.

I got pregnant 5 months post op with my surprise 3rd. It is not something I would recommend as I constantly felt guilty that I wasn't able to eat or drink as much as I wanted to support the baby. At that point I still had a lot of restriction and the nausea was the worst compared to my prior 2 before WLS. My priority shifted from losing weight to sustaining the pregnancy, With that being said, I was so much more conscious of the food I did eat that I probably ate the most healthy and nutritious food to make every bite count. I was 262 before surgery and 175 when I got pregnant. I continued to loose weight and my lowest was 160 lbs at 6 months. I gained 8 lbs from there and was 168 lbs when I delivered my 5lb 15 oz baby girl at 37 weeks who was healthy. Two weeks after I gave birth I was 155 and have been about there ever since.

    Hi everyone,

I am pregnant after having vsg on June of last year. I am happy but also very nervous. Any of you like to share your experience with pregnancy after vsg. I just feel like this will be totally different from my last pregnancy because I am older and I now have the sleeve.

Also I hear a lot of people saying that we’re told not to get pregnant until about 12 to 18 months post op. So I want comments from those who got pregnant sooner than that time frame as well.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello LilaNicole,

First of all Congratulations on your pregnancy! I am currently 6 months pregnant and so far everything is going well. Baby is good and I am good as well. I have gained 2 lbs since I found out I was pregnant. So my VSG is still helping me with my weight. The first trimester of pregnancy was the worse for me as I had bad morning sickness. I am currently in the second trimester and I feel so much more energy and I am eating a more normal amount (well normal for us VSG patients). Baby is measuring great and healthy. We found out we are having another little boy! We are so excited and have begun doing some baby shopping. I will try to update once we get to the third trimester in a few weeks.

This made me think about my own decision not to share my surgery with anyone that didn't have a "need to know". Virtually everyone I work with has never actually seen me in person, only via zoom, since we almost all work remotely. I didn't tell anyone, even my boss that I was having weight loss surgery.
Quarterly, my larger team (50-60 folks) gets together in person now, but I've put off traveling for these meetings for most of the year. I used my significant hearing loss as the main rationale. I do have a significant challenge hearing in crowded rooms due to my hearing loss, so it's absolutely an issue. If I'm honest with myself though, I put off going mostly because I was ashamed of my weight. I also knew that after surgery, I'd be closer to a "normal" weight and while some might notice a difference between "video" me and "in person" me, I figured it won't be nearly as noticeable for most folks. Anyway, mid-December, I'm finally planning to go to the quarterly get together.
Fair or not, I know 2 things are true, and I made the choices I did based on this:
Being obese carries a significant stigma that we are lazy, have no self-control, are morally bankrupt, are unattractive, etc. I've seen and felt this personally and its impact on promotions and work assignments. No one will ever admit to feeling this way or letting it impact business decisions, but it happens consciously or not. (I digress here a bit, but if you doubt this is real, look at the C-suite in any major corporation and one consistent theme is that it's exceptionally rare to see someone that's even overweight, much less obese.) Many people think that WLS is the easy way out, so don't associate weight lost this way as "redeeming ourselves" for the laziness and lack of self-control. In effect, only if you lose weight "naturally", are you proven "worthy" again. Frankly it sucks that these attitudes are so prevalent, but they are. I made the choices I did because I don't need anyone at work judging me or my motivations. As someone else said, I did this to save my life. We should be celebrating it. Instead, it's just more stigmatizing.

Just wanted to drop a note of encouragement to the folks who are considering surgery, pre-surgery, in the early recovery stages. I had VSG on May 20, 2021 and started out 355 lbs. In a year, I'm down to 237.2. Life is so much easier, I have so much more stamina, and I'm so glad I had surgery and didn't get cold feet. Once I was out of the recovery phase it has been amazing how normal life feels, even if it's a new normal. I am wishing you the best and keep at it! ❤️
