    100 lbs in under a year?

    Sorry I hadn't noticed this post sooner. Let me start by saying, I am a very lazy person, hence the reason I got fat. My time in the gym has been ZERO. I do walk a lot with my wife. I babysit a 3 years old 5-6 days a week 12 hour days. I love skateboarding again. But as far as exercise, workouts? Nope, not my cup of tea. 95% of my weight loss has come through the kitchen. I am blessed in as much, I am now reactive hypoglycemic. I cant cheat with sweets without paying a dear price. I have gone unconscious 3 times since surgery from low blood glucose below 50. Also my appetite has been a struggle. I have to force myself to eat. Trust me I could lose more if I wanted to. I am 6'3" and 163 lbs is already skinny enough. I was a very skinny young man, and I think post op my body went back to its natural state. I was about 145 lbs into my early mid 30's. So yeah I was quite skinny. Diet wise, I was probably stricter with myself than I needed to be. I eat eggs, cheeses, meats of all types, green vegetables. Very little fruit, sugars aren't my friend. I use TESPO liquid vitamins. I'm not a good example. I enjoy the occasional chili dog. I eat the occasional chip. My portions are obviously a fraction of what they were in the past. There are much wiser, better examples of peoples disciplines and diets on here than mine. Again, I am not typical in that I have to force myself to eat. I actually seek out fattier foods now just to maintain weight. Not necessarily junk food, but not the leans foods most of us have to eat. It has taken me many months to stop losing. My doctors were starting to get worried. for my health based on how rapidly I lost and my inability to maintain. I am doing much better now though.

    I'm not sure water would sit in our pouches long enough to stretch it. I too chug water sometimes, and am immediately reminded by the discomfort to slow down.

    I am down a total of 143 lbs in about a years time. from a 46 inch waist to a 31. My high weight was 305, now I'm 162. Not sure if it's typical, but it was my journey.
  4. I am hoping to see a follow up to this post. I hope now that you've had a few days under your belt, maybe you are feeling better about the surgery.
  5. Why we should not drink alcohol, and or eat sugars. Last night I had a cocktail. This particular drink itself was very high in sugar and I knew I should not have been drinking it. To add to this I cheated a little and enjoyed 3 starburst candies, which I washed down with my super sugary alcoholic libation causing is to dump directly into my small intestine. Shortly there after I had some pretty strong heart palpitations which subsided after a few minutes. I attributed this to dehydration, so in incorporated some water into my drinking while still working on my cocktail. fast forward about 1.5 hours later I stood up from my bed quickly and got tunnel vision horribly almost going down as my legs kept buckling under me. Looked like a really bad new age dance move i suppose. I made it back to bed thinking dehydration still. Fast forward 30 more minutes. I arose to use the restroom, steadied myself in case i got light headed again. All seemed good. I made my way into the restroom, and woke up a moment later on the bathroom floor repeatedly bouncing my face off the bathroom tiles. It seems, unbeknownst to me that I caused myself to go hypoglycemic with all that sugar moving too rapidly into my small intestine. My body produced an abundance of insulin to deal with the sugars this caused the earlier erratic heart beat, and later all that insulin dropped my blood sugar too low causing me to faint for the first time in my life. Here I sit now with a likely broken nose, a nice knot on my forehead, and bruises on my hip knee and elbow. None of this compares to the damage it did to my wife to hear me crash to the ground and come running in to find me flopping around on the floor like i was seizing. In conclusion, all of this was perfectly avoidable. I did it to myself and have the marks to remind me of it. I will not be drinking any more alcohol at all, and evidently I wont be able to enjoy the occasional cheat treat. I am not writing this to scare anyone. From what I've read, only a small percentage of people ever suffer dumping syndrome, and of those only 25% experience the late dumping syndrome. I guess I fall into that small percentage. Also I wanted to point out that not all dumping syndrome involve cramps, diarrhea and the such. Especially for those of us that were diabetic pre-op. You can have this type of dumping syndrome and like myself not have the tell tell signs most people associate dumping syndrome with.
  6. Dumping syndrome for me comes in the form of heart palpitations, and as of last night fainting. So last night I cheated and ate a piece of candy, 3 pieces to be exact. I came up stairs laid down to watch tv. I didnt wait 30 minutes to drink, I waited like 30 seconds. flushing all the stupid sugar (candy) into my small intestine. An hour or 2 later my heart starts racing , once this subsided I got up to use the restroom, next thing I know I'm waking up on the bathroom floor with my face bouncing off the baseboard. First time fainting for me, and a lesson well learned. Oh, let me be totally honest here I also had been enjoying an alcoholic libation. ( I was not drunk, but I'm sure this alcohol combined with candy, along with not waiting to drink all combined to make a perfect storm. So yeah, I'm pretty sure I have a broken nose, my knee, hip, elbow and face are all nicely bruised. This could have been avoided had I not drank alcohol candy and paid closer attention to the rapid heart rate earlier.
  7. I have been waking up every night at 3-4 a.m. since about 2 months post op. I dont know why, and am wondering if anyone else is or has experienced this issue?
  8. I have lost my love for food. Nothing tastes like it used to. I dont go out of my way to find bad foods, but on occasion I'll allow myself a bite of this or that. I gotta be honest, I am super happy that it isnt satisfying anymore. I also find now that I enjoy some foods I never liked at all, like sweet potatoes, lots and lots of greens, etc. The things that would have kept me from getting fat in the first place. Anyways I find it a huge benefit that things taste different.

    Post Op Insomnia

    I am going through this exact same thing. I wake every darn night at 3-4 a.m. since about 1 month post op, maybe 1.5 months. this has now been going on for 2.5 months give or take.

    Completely normal. Your body is healing, and also learning how to run off fat stores. I go through this still at times. Usually when I notice I'm dropping substantial weight again, I start becoming very tired.

    So I underwent G-bypass 3-21-2018 and I'm officially down 95 lbs today. 5 lbs away from my low weight goal.

    I'm loving the results so far. I am down to a 33-34 inch levis. Havent done that in many a moon.
  13. 1 Month post op = down 49 lbs, 6 inches in waist, no more diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol. No more CPAP. These 2 photos are exactly 1 month apart.

    I know in some respects I have it easier than some, because I was only obese, not morbidly. However I promise this one thing is true no matter which category you're in. You will get out of it way more than it asks to be put in since the tool of Gastric Bypass is really doing the majority of the heavy lifting. All it asks of me in return is a little walking each day, the occasional bike ride and I park out in the boondocks when I visit Walmart forcing me to walk a little extra distance. The real change will take place in a couple months once I'm allowed into the gym. I used to be quite ripped, and hope to be able to get a small portion of that ripeness back. Best of luck on your journey I have confidence that you will see great progress yourself.

    Thanks for the encouragement. I definitely have my bad HANGRY days but for the most part, the surgery has taken about 95% of my appetite away.

    If you listed all those previous surgeries then the scar tissue issue shouldn't be an issue. As far as the insurance thing, don't worry about stuff you can't change. If you are truly concerned then give them a call for yourself.

    In 8 days and a wake up I will be forever changed. I go for my bypass Mar 21. I'll be going to Dr. Cervates in Mexico and couldn't be more excited.

    That is a very good sign. Your body is feeding off its fat reserves. Unfortunately this isnt going to occur uniformly at once, but eventually it will even out as fat stores in one area are depleted your body will draw energy from another.
  25. My point of view as a man and a husband. He is insecure. He fears that if you lose the weight you will become more marketable to other men. Thats on him. DONT! jeopardize your life and health for a person thats only thinking of himself. I go in for my bypass April 5th of this year, after years of YoYo diets. Starvation diets. 10's of thousands of dollars on supplements. High BP, cholesterol, diabetes, reflux,and sever abstructive sleep apnea. My wife fully supports my decision. She also knows just how attractive I am capable of being at a healthy weight and never once has she allowed paranoia get in the way of her support for me. You need to do this for yourself, for all those reasons listed above, chances are he's bluffing anyways and relying on you caving in. I'll never understand these sorts of reactions from men. So selfish.
