Hi all, I am 3weeks and 5days post op and have upgraded to the baby food stage. I am wondering how long it should take me to eat 1/2 cup of food. I am having lots of esophogeal spasms with everything that I eat and drink and the doc has me on anti-spasmodic medication. I wonder if I am having the spasms still because I may eating to fast. It is taking me about 3/4 of an hour to eat about half a cup. Does this sound right?

I was in hospital for 6 days as I had severe pain and could not swallow anything. The doctor gave me an antispasmodic medication called buscopan and that helped more than any of the pain relief mess they gave me. I am now 4 weeks post op and the pain does not come as frequent nor as bad. It does get a bit better as you heal. Good luck. -
I had a sleeve gastrectomy and my surgeon and nutritionist both said half a cup at a time for meals. I am struggling with that amount because the spasms are so bad that I give up eating to avoid the pain. I force myself because I know how important the nutrition is but spend the next hour or so buckled over with pain. It is easier to swallow water but that is painful too at times. I really wish I could swallow with out pain. :-(
