My doc always recommends going back to liquids for a few days after an episode like you just had and in your case I would say your stomach really needs the break from food. Liquids for at least a day or two would probably do you a world of good.

I don't think it is dangerous as far as choking. The food is stuck in your pouch or stoma. It will usually either go down or come up. It is extremely painful and I have found the best thing is to try and remain calm. I was told you can keep papaya enzyme tablets or meat tenderizer on hand in case something gets stuck. Both are supposed to help break down the food.

It's so exciting to get that approval and then to have a surgery date! Congrats!

That is just awful! Nothing like being a human pin cushion!!!! My first fill was on the 15th and it was so easy I was shocked. I hope next time the doc just does it for you.

pizza seems to be a big no no. My first "stuck" experience was after 2 bites of pizza. And I felt your pain...I thought I was dying! It was HORRIBLE. The second time I got stuck wasn't as bad and it was from a few bites of toast. I avoid all bread now, even tortillas. I am 43 days post-op and have decided to wait a long time before I try them again. It isn't worth the pain. I'm sorry you went thru all this, it is a hard lesson to learn (I know) but don't feel bad. I would say it happens to at least 90% of all banders at one time or another. Just be real careful now. Robin

I had my first fill two days ago! My band was empty and my doc put in 4 cc's...it was too much so she back it down to 3.8 and I seem to be doing okay. I don't feel hungry really...I have some head hunger but not too much real hunger. Today I will try to eat some real food so we will see how that goes. As far as pain goes there was almost none. My doc does not numb you up first like some others so...which is okay with me. I'd rather get stuck just once. It was a teeny tiny pinch and she got it the first time. I have watched a lot of fills on youtube and it looked like the docs "dug" around quite a bit searching for the port. That was not my experience at all. :thumbup:It was smooth, fast and very easy...and I was a nervous wreck not knowing what to expect. I felt silly being so worried when it was all said and done. I hope I am on my way to some good weight loss now, not that I am complaining I think I have done pretty well so far. I just have this little voice in the back of my head telling me I am going to eventually gain it all back and the band won't work for me. :thumbup:

Tricare Prime South here. I had no problem getting approval but on surgery day my surgeon did tell me I was the LAST Tricare patient they would see...she said Tricare didn't pay much and that she was getting more money than the hospital. I guess the hospital had to eat a lot of the costs. Like they don't charge too much to begin with...ya know? I guess I am lucky I got in when I did.

Hi! I'm an Air Force wife...hubby has been in 13 years this November. We are currently stationed at MacDill AFB in Tampa, Florida. I LOVE it here! We have moved around a lot these past years...started out in Arizona and moved to Cannon AFB in Clovis, NM, then onto Fairchild AFB Spokane, Wa, Lackland AFB San Antonio, Texas, Beale AFB Northern CA, hubby spent a year in Korea and now we are in Florida. Whew. It's so nice to see all you other Military spouses here...we might end up taking over. LOL. Robin

My favorite and it came from a fellow chubster... "I don't believe it surgery to fix a weight problem, but since you are dead set on it there is nothing I can do to change your mind." Um...well thank goodness cause I don't want my mind changed. Surgery is okay if you have clogged arteries, if you have cancer, if you want big boobs and so on but not okay for someone who is MORBIDLY OBESE. These people I have decided are either jealous and or ignorant.

I've been wanting one too and every time I go to the store they have just sold the last one. It's gonna be a matter of being in the right place at the right time. I was going to suggest EBay too...for me I am gonna just wait til I find it locally.

Dr. Tiffany Jessee did my surgery at the Palms of Pasadena hospital. I live in South Tampa and the Palms is in St. Petersburg...not far.

I have tried pizza twice now and both times it got stuck...it is an AWFUL experience and one I plan on not repeating any time soon.

Wow sounds a little rough. My doc doesn't use any numbing agents...and I can understand why there was no pain at all when she put the needle with the saline in. My first fill was yesterday, she found my port right away and in one stick it was done. No xray machine or anything...it was so fast I was shocked.

Liquids for a day or two, then mushy food and then slowly try regular foods and see how it goes.

First fill done!!! I went in this morning. I had 3.8 cc's put in and feel pretty good. It didn't hurt but I was so nervous...went very quickly. I haven't had a thing to eat all day and was okay til about an hour ago and now my stomach is growling. I guess I will go for a shake and see if that puts an end to the rumbling in my tummy.

What a great experience to share with us. It's funny how little things like that gown can make us feel, but those feelings are so real. Congrats on your weight loss and hard work! Robin

I am tricare prime south. I had no trouble getting approved and when the ball started rolling it actually went very quickly. My surgeon told me to get the pysch eval and told me what docs she would accept it from, I called tricare told them and they gave me the referral. I had my EKG, Blood work, Chest Xray all done by my PCM's office. I did not need to see a nutrionalist. I also had an over night stay. Hi Ya'll! I got a sample today from my surgeon...it is a Protein mix called Syntrax nectar. I looked it up online and see they have all kinds of flavors and it gets rave reviews. So I am wondering...has anyone tried it? What do you think? And...where do you buy it? So far I only see it for sale online but surely some stores must carry it. Please let me know what you think.
