  1. I had lap-band surgery around ten years ago but it was put in wrong and has caused some issues based on pieces coming off, etc. It was removed six days ago along with repair due to the parts floating around my body for who knows how long. My surgeon plans to do the RNY in about a month if all goes well. So that is my story, but I am concerned that losing the weight at this age may have heath ramifications and....well, I may look worse in the long run. I am concerned that my skin will hang from my body and I will lose hair and since I am 56 I may not bounce back at gracefully as those younger than I. I see many people having surgery to remove skin, arm lifts, face lifts, etc. i doubt I can afford that so hoping to lose the weight, be as healthy as possible, take in all the recommended protein/vitamins and deal with the skin issues. I also am concerned about the lack of nutrients I will absorb over time and what I may need as I get older. I figure being obese is a higher risk, so moving forward but would love advice from those before me....

    Advice on what to expect

Thanks for the advice, for a little while I was concerned that the blog had lost the viewers. I like the ability to write things without it being out there in FB. So thank you! I too figure I will deal with it and this decision is much better than my alternative. Figured there are a lot of figure control items out there that may help with the skin. Hoping for the best. Kudos to you catwoman7 for your results! Impressive!

    Lap Band Removal or NOT???

I too had major issues with my band. I complained from day one that it didn't seem to work and later that it hurt. Most of the time they just advised it was fine, normal, but they did two UGI and still advised me it was fine. When they put in any fill I could not swallow and of course it never limited my eating. After ten years I finally changed medical plans and went to a new doctor. They found that the lap-band was placed way too high and if filled water/food stopped in my esophagus, and recommended fixing it. I asked to have it removed. After a few issues with not being able to throw up because of the band with a flu and food poisoning, I have had enough of this thing. So this week they removed it, also found it was not placed correctly, not stitched in, and parts had come off which caused hernias etc. Part of the implant was found laying on my liver. I am so thankful I kept pushing to find out what was wrong. Not all lap-bands have this issue obviously but the place I went to obviously was not a advocate for patients. Once I am healed I hope to have a bypass and finally obtain and practice what I have long awaited. Love the new surgeon and have complete confidence in her skill. she recommended waiting at least a month before a secondary bypass surgery.

    Lap Band Removal

I had a lap-band put in years ago by a *** in the San Fran area (Burlingame). Once I am healed I hope to have a bypass and finally obtain and practice what I have long awaited. Wanted to tell the story so others who are bullied by their medical practitioners know that this kind of thing can be very serious. Love the new surgeon and have complete confidence in her skill. I didn't check that before, and of course with my *** I really did not have options.
