  1. I was very dehydrated before my surgery and my start weight had gone up. Don’t be discouraged, it will improve. But, as I was, it is going to be harder since you were dehydrated. Keep drinking your liquids and protein shakes. Remember if you begin feeling really a bad, call your doctor, there are things they can do, and medications to make you feel better, si call if you need, they want to hear from you. Also, try a sippy cup to drink liquids, it really helps. Keep posting for encouragement, it will help you mentally. Good luck
  2. Kathy51, are you taking your vitamins? Have you had blood test yet to check your vitamin levels? You may also be ,ow on vitamin B or D, and to be low on these can also caus hair loss. The chewable, liquid, or melt vitamins are the best to absorb. There are also patch vitamins. All of the choices are available also on Amazon. As far as protein goes, you don’t have to do fresh. Most of my protein, still comes from canned tuna or chicken, or soft eggs, and protein shakes. Canned meat is much easier because you can moisten it with Greek protein and just a small bit of mayo to get a better taste. You could also puréed carrots to put in it for more nutrients. The other thing that I did besides vitamins is a vitamin B injection once a week. After beginning this as well as my vitamin D was low (as shown with blood work) my hair loss stopped. When you do go for your blood work, remember to ask for a vitamin B and a vitamin D level, they are separate blood test from a CBC. But, a vitamin B injection, many places offer these injections, without blood work. I hope this helps, good luck.
  3. I think everyone has that feeling. It’s surgery, and surgery is a scary thing. But, this surgery is a very positive thing for you - life changing. As for the gas, it’s not so bad at all. Gas-x strips help the gas greatly. Also, I learned from a forum about drinking liquids following surgery out of a kids sippy cup, this was a great idea. It allowed for smaller sips without taking in any additional air into your gut. It works well. So, good luck! Just follow the diet and get in your walking after surgery. You got this!
  4. What was the exact date of your surgery? In 2017? Or 2018?
  5. Make sure you are not trying to eat too much of a meat. I can still (9 mo. out) only eat a few bites of chicken chewed well. I mostly eat fish , and soups. Even at six months eggs were hard for me to eat without pain; Now still no pasta. Many of the girls I had surgery with loved steak and they say it’s still not possible. So just rethink what you eat, boil your chicken and shred it for a meal, and there are many recipes for fish and soups to try. Good luck!
  6. I haven’t read good things about them at all. I used OCC in Tijuana, Mexico. It is a JACCHO certified hospital- which is not a certification that is easy to obtain. Plus, their follow up care is wonderful, and all staff is attentive and knowledgeable. A lot of patients are referreds from friends and a family member that had surgery there before- which is another positive to be shown. I think anyone that has had surgery there is very happy. Plus I have not seen any negative reviews about them - ever. Check them out, I think you will be happy.
  7. It’s generic name is polyethylene glycol, you should be able to find that. It has been available in the U.S. for more than 15 years and you should be able to find it there, if not you could order it from amazon. You can put it in water or juice to drink. But remeber, many people don’t have constipation, and you don’t want to take it unless you do. If you are worried just because you are taking the protein drinks, just remember to drink as much soup, crystal light, tea or water, or jello, as you can. A kids soppy cup also helps so you don’t take air when you drink. Good luck

    Constipation advice?

Try the miralax again, your body has now changed and the miralax might help again. Also, call your doctor for recommendations.
  9. You might read about why patients are told to do a liquid diet., and it’s not only for the weight loss. One of the biggest reasons is to have time for the liver to detoxify and to decrease in size. This since most obese people have fatty livers. When a surgeon is doing the surgery they need work around the liver. If the liver is too large from a high fat diet even right before surgery it can become a risk for surgery. Some surgeons have been known to begin surgery and stop the surgery due to the liver being too large. One of the complications is that the liver can then be lacerated during surgery which causes not only bleeding but other complications. So after being on a liquid diet and waiting for such a surgery, one would have to wonder why some would jeopardize themselves, and their outcome, just for one last meal.
  10. Why worry about any of this if you don’t have constipation? And if you do get constipation Miralax is what doctors now suggest.
  11. You may also be getting dehydrated which can happen. Water is heavy and harder to go down without pain. You could try liquid yogurt, crystal light, iced tea, anything but plain water would be easier to get down. Don’t forget there is also sugar free jello and pudding which is easier to get down. Also you might not feel hungry for a long time, but it is still important to stay hydrated and fuel your body. Good luck!
  12. I agree with Sosues you need to go to the ER. You have no idea what is going on inside your body, and with that kind of continuous drainage something is occurring. Your lif is important! Don’t let going to Mexico influence not going to the ER, you need to find out what is going on with your body. ( I do triage nursing and this is a go to ER now call! ) good luck, and prayers.
  13. After a lot of research I chose OBesity Control Center with Dr. Ariel Ortiz. The hospital is within 15minutes of San Diego, and it is JACCHO accredited - this is a major accreditation which is done mainly for U.S. hospitals. To have a facility in Mexico with this accreditation is huge. Also, the doctors there also hold U.S. license, so they are not just “Mexico doctors”. The physicians and nurses were outstanding, as a medical manager I Could not say enough praises for the care that they gave to the patients. The facility was immaculate and clean. I think if you checked out this facility and Dr. Ortiz, you would be impressed with what they offer. Plus the follow up,care is great. They are available to reach even after your surgery. I Had surgery in April and went back to Tijuana with a friend for her surgery in November. At that time most of the women and men that I saw were there for surgery were there with friends and relatives that had previously had surgery with Dr. Ortiz. So, nothing says more about trust in a physician, than seeing people return with their families and friends for him to provide their surgery.
  14. I have to agree with you on that. I’m a nurse and I don’t think placation is relevant to breast surgery. Sure they want you to disclose everything, but in this instance one has not much to do with the other. So, I would not tell her, and if you follow the instructions of no eating after midnight and take your meds, you should be fine.

    Chest pain normal?

Danny, yes, it is a common thing to have that pain after you drink. I actually had mine in April and went back w my friend in November. A couple of tricks that we learned to help this. 1.) Put your liquid into a child’s silly cup, that way you are getting a lot less air when you take a drink. 2:) Drink broth, Gatorade, jello, popsicles, but not just plain water. Water is heavier and will give you more pain. Also, don’t drink anything and lay down, you need to be sitting up all the way to drink, and stay sitting up for 20min after drinking. Follow the liquid diet all thru and you will do we,, “Chest pain” is not normal if it occurs when you are not drinking anything, read on the signs of a heart attack, so you know the difference. If you have continued chest pain and can not get liquids down, let your doctor know early on, there are meds they can give you to help out. Good luck
