Im having trouble
You have to weigh the pros and cons. Is being almost 500 pounds worth risking death? Any meds? Pain? Co-morbidities? Are there any luxuries that you can do without? I don't have the answers; just some ideas to think about. Wishing you the best with your journey. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

Ooops!
I have to be at the hospital at 6am, so I'll just let the doctor know in the morning. It's not like I'm eating a cheeseburger and French fries like the rest of my family is doing this very moment. The smell of their food is actually making nauseous. Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one who does this stuff. LOL

Ooops!
Okay, so I'm doing my bowel cleanse and I drank a boatload of Metamucil. Then I went back to my binder and read MiraLAX! I went to the store to buy the correct product and now I'm working my way in the right direction. Do you think I might have drank too much by combining Metamucil and MiraLAX? Right now, I'm cramping a little, but not the physical act of cleansing.

Pre-Op weight loss.
I understand your concern, but you will not be turned away for losing weight. The main purpose is what you stated: shrinking the liver so your surgeon can operate. Your doc probably already knows about your diet failures. Mine is a 20 pound weight loss and stop. Surprisingly, I've lost 26 pounds, but I've never starved myself like I've had to for this surgery. Which by the way is TOMORROW! Best wishes to you. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

I chose the bypass, too, but my doc said a sleeve might have to suffice due to the scar tissue. I'll take it as long it leads to a happier, healthier me! Take care of yourself when you go back to work. Luckily, I have enough sick leave to cover my salary while I'm out. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

Thank you for the advice. I have followed the pre-op to the "T" and my pre-admission testing all came back normal. I think my biggest fear is my scar tissue from previous surgeries. I don't know how much of a big deal it is, but my doc said that was his worry, so now it's my worry. LOL I suppose my most serious issue is the open cut versus the laparoscopic method and the possibility of a sleeve instead of bypass. Poor me, I'll have to take 6 weeks off work instead of 4 [emoji1] ! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

Surgery is Monday and I'm starting to get really nervous and scared. I am pretty calm when I get surgeries, but this one is freaking me out. I'm reaching the point of no return. I'm cool with the "diet" part of post-op, but I'm worried about complications. I suppose I shouldn't worry about what I can't control. Easier said than done.

So did the doc say he could go laparoscopic with the scar tissue and without making an open cut? Of course, he won't know anything until he goes in, but I wonder how scar tissue around my bikini area affects the surgery. I should have asked him. Ugh, questions always pop up after the fact. Yikes! I just got home from my pre-op appointment with my surgeon. He is now concerned with two prior incisions (bikini cuts) and the scar tissue it may have caused. He thinks he might need to make an open cut instead of laparoscopic, and a possibility of the sleeve instead of gastric bypass. I figured a larger incision and sleeve is better than an almost 50 BMI and other comorbidities. I was nervous before the appointment, but now I'm a little freaked out. Whose got some positive words for me?

Liquid diet
I'm not turning back now. I went through too much the past 9 days to quit. LOL I had a revelation about this liquid diet. Clearly, I was addicted to the wrong foods which is why I went through the horrible withdrawals and all the other side effects. I feel bad for drug addicts because their withdrawals last much longer and I don't know of a surgery that will help keep them from going back to their addiction. We are blessed to have this opportunity. The best news...my insurance will pay 100% of the surgery since I met my deductible. That's like going shopping and getting everything 90% off (10% goes to my new grocery list). Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

Liquid diet
Day 4 was better for me with the weakness, headaches, and sickness, but the hunger has not subsided. I have 4 days until my surgery, too. I can't have another sip of broth to save my life, but I'm drinking my shakes and water faithfully. Best wishes. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

Liquid Diet Long Term
I'm not saying I'm having second thoughts, BUT I'm losing quite a bit of weight with this tortuous liquid diet. I love food, so I know this wouldn't work long-term for me; however, what does research say about liquid diets? I've never been on one before and no other diets have worked after the first 20 pounds. Today, I'm down 19 pounds from the start of the diet, and 23 pounds from my heaviest. I can't help but wonder. Thanks for any information you can share.

Daith piercing
I was told by the OR nurse that acrylics and light polish is okay. This was when I went in for my endoscopy. She said the reason for no dark polish is because the pulse thingy can't read through the polish, but light-colored polish is okay. I guess every OR is different. Congrats on the wedding and best wishes on your surgery. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

Taste Buds
Thanks for the input! Hormones! I'm trying to research how they are affected, but I can't find much. As it relates to eating, what can you tell me? My doc just said it changes. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

Taste Buds
I'm interested in learning how many of you had your taste buds change after surgery? I love so many different flavors, and I'm not sure how I would feel if I all of a sudden no longer like certain foods. For example, I'm thrilled that the avacado is on the list of foods to eat as it is one of my favorites. If my tastes change, I wonder if I'll be sad or relieved. On the other hand, if I no longer like the taste of cookies and other sweets, that would be pretty awesome. I'd appreciate your thoughts. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

4 days post op - struggling with fluids
I'm "downing" my shakes and sipping on soups and water all day. I was on the edge of sickness on Day 4, but that subsided by Day 5. SF popsicles are a great treat with the added benefit of being a liquid. I'm not keeping track of my intake, but I know I'm doing well because I'm peeing all day long!
