The Honeymoon Phase
Wow. I was reading through this thread really gaining some great perspective from everyone and I just want to learn, BUT when I read the Special Olympics joke, it was sad to me that someone would put that in print. Man, that is truly tasteless. Kelli

Total Yogurt
I just wanted to say thanks for posting about this Greek yogurt! I found some at Trader Joe's and it is AWESOME! Not to mention it doesn't have a bunch of chemicals in it. I had Greek yogurt with strawberries, a little bit of granola, and some splenda. Honestly, it was SO GOOD! Kelli

Ditterences in Food Stages Time Frame
It is so hard in the beginning days, but it's worth it! I learned here about split pea Soup (w/o any meat), and it was a lifesaver for me in the first few weeks post surgery. Very filling and nutritious. Kelli

feeling down, gained all the weight back
I don't know if a zillion fills will work if behavioral changes aren't made. I have had to change how/what I eat because I really thought I could eat the same things post band. Well, I can, but I don't lose weight! :cry It's hard, though, but I figure it's worth it, I didn't go under general anesthesia for naught. I hope it becomes easier for you. Kelli

Ready to cry my eyes out
I seriously do not think your primary care physician is recommending bypass surgery because of money. What I do believe, though, is that this procedure is one that requires a lot from the person. It is not as successful as bypass surgery because of that. I mean, if we all had what it takes to be thin, we would be thin! Lap band statistics, so far, are not that great, and I can see why...it takes the same type of work as not being banded did! If you don't change your ways, you're not going to lose weight with the band. With that being said, though, I believe it is the healthiest choice and least invasive. I guess it all depends on how much YOU want to make behavioral changes on your own. Kelli

Wanna be healthy, but afraid to be thin?
I'm definitely afraid to be thin. It's been the whole undertow of being heavy for me. I associate being thin with being nervous, anxious, free, and, well, what would I focus on then? I have really been working through this, though, in the past few weeks. For me, being heavy is sedating. Sedation has always been a good feeling. Not sure if that makes sense. I have also been working on knowing that I am worth losing weight and feeling good, i.e., changing my perception of what thin feels like. My sister who is banded says that she is afraid that she will never be thin. This does not scare me, I believe I will achieve my target weight. Will I be okay with that is the question. Just like adhering to the bandster "rules," it's mostly a mind matter. Great question! Kelli

I do not know how much they charge for a fill, but my surgeon is in San Fran, Dr. Feng, at Laparoscopic Associates. Kelli

Got Fill #2 today-doctor still a crackhead
Karen, Well, this is certainly a change for the better!! Maybe they just become frustrated because they don't get the results they want/need. You are definitely an inspiration with that weight loss! GOOD FOR YOU!! Woohooo!!! I am 12 weeks post surgery and down 15 pounds. I had to postpone my next appointment because of work and so I go on May 16! I have been eating better (more in line with their suggestions) and I really do have restriction so I don't know if he'll give me a fill or not. Thanks for posting about your experience!! Kelli

Boca Burgers
I buy my Boca's at costco, but the Super Wallyworld has them. Now, I did try the Boca morning sausage this morning and couldn't quite develop a taste for it. Kelli

"Learning the Secret"
This is a great thread. I guess I experienced a shift in my thinking when I recalled a saying from AA...It's easier to stay sober than get sober. One day it occurred to me (I know it sounds silly, but it was the first time), that losing weight is kind of like when I stopped drinking. It's a process and then there is an end. Of course, once the end is reached I will have to maintain, but it really put it in perspective and gave me hope when I realized that I can just lose weight and it can be as simple as that. I had always tackled weight issues with "forever" and "always" and "never." When I exchanged those words with "just for today" and "occasionally" and "sometimes" it seemed to help. I guess I'm trying to say there is an end in sight. When I tried to quit drinking, over 5 years ago, I believe I was becoming addicted to trying to quit! Same with my weight...the drama and focus of it had become so normal that I didn't even recognize it. That pattern needed changing and once I was willing to withstand being a bit uncomfortable, it worked. Kelli

Boca Burgers
I agree, I love Boca burgers! I've been eating them for about 7 years now, but more so since being banded. My husband brought home CHEESEBURGER Boca burgers and they are good, too! :biggrin1: I bought some Boca morning sausage, but haven't tried it yet! Kelli

need some motivation
How amazing for you to have made the initial big first step at your tender age! That is pretty cool. All I can suggest is that you focus on Protein because that seems to work for me with my cravings (or lack of). Carbs just make me hungrier. I hope it works out! Kelli

HELLO World!!!!
Michelle welcome to Bandland! My sister is banded, but she had a time where she wasn't sure if she should go with the band or the whole bypass or the one that removes part of your stomach and keeps everything the same (no bypassing). Anywho, I'm down in northern California praying for some relief from the rain! I came to this site every day before and really after my banding (only 10 weeks ago) and everyone is very kind and helpful. I've learned more here than my actual surgeon! Kelli If you do have any questions, please feel free me at kebyers@spheris.com Have a great day!

Sleep Apnea Evaluation
I had an abnormal EKG months before my surgery and so my cardiologist checked me out :kiss2: Nah, not like that, but he said my heart is strong and healthy and asked (because I'm obese) if I snore and am tired the next day. I said yes to both questions. So he sent me for a sleep study. Concurently with this stuff, I was getting approved by my insurance for lap-band and so my surgeon said to for sure do the sleep study, plus I feel so much better with the CPAP. Lots better! One day my Bobbie Beans, our youngest pug, came running down the hall with my mask and hose :uwelcome: so I had to have it replaced. The one night I went w/o it I could totally tell a difference! I had to go and sleep there twice. They did let me take Ambien. It was quite relaxing actually, I didnt want to go home in the morning! Kelli

Doc Thinks I'm Nuts
I don't think you're nuts. I experience more hunger in the evening, but what I have found over the past couple of weeks is that, I only experience that type of hunger if I eat carbs during the day. If I stick to Protein, I feel content. Kelli
