Is anyone else buying and trying protein drinks, mixes etc pre-surgery?
I am in school so I am trying to utilize canned foods and things I can preamble and eat when needed. I have tried the B.B. wild salmon, I’m not a salmon fan but this was good. I also eat the canned chicken breast, I don’t know if I can eat it blended but I guess I will have to try for the purée stage. I want to make veggie style baby food to eat during the purée stage, I have been looking up recipes for that. What I am really curious about is the broth stage. Are we supposed to use bullion cubes in boiled water or something else? I was thinking about making my own but I wasn’t sure. I’m trying to keep my salt intake down and I worry the bullion cubes might have a lot in them.

It’s starting to get real
Those are the same things I am thinking about. Excited to be starting a new chapter, worried about the pre-op diet and dreading the after surgery nausea. I’m excited for you, 22 days!!!

Sooo nervous
I am still a few weeks away from getting my surgery date but I have also been looking for ideas about what to bring to the hospital. I plan to bring: Hair brush, my pillow, iPad, cell phone, chargers, portable charger, lip balm, slip on shoes and very loose going home clothes.

It’s starting to get real
I have looked into WLS several times in the past 20 years, every time I did I would lose weight and decide that I didn’t need help and try to do it in my own. I’d lose about 20ish pounds and celebrate with unhealthy foods, eventually quitting and returning to old habits and finding those lost 20ish pounds...and some of their friends too. This time I decided I can’t do this on my own, I need help and I was going to stick with it. I needed a 3 month nutrition trial (with 3 nutritional visits), at least 1 support group meeting, all of my labs done, surgery clearance from my primary doc, psych clearance and then my final before surgery appointment with my surgeon and nutritionist. I’ve gotten everything leading up to and including the psych evaluation done as of today. That means in less than 2 weeks I should ?? be getting my surgery date. I’m so excited. I’m a little nervous but mostly excited to know that I am finally on a path to a healthier life. I hope everyone has a blessed and wonderful weekend (((Hugs)))

Protein powder & fiber powder?
Thank you. I will make sure to ask him at my next appointment. I did buy some tasteless protein powder for the liquid diet stages and I will make sure to ask about the fiber powder as well. Right now I just make sure to drink lots of water and eat extra, low starchy green veggies. Thank you [emoji16]

Protein powder & fiber powder?
I am still a few weeks away from even getting a surgery date yet but I want to plan ahead. During the liquid diet phase should we be adding protein powder to all of our liquids? If so which ones have you tried that you like? I have noticed that with the high protein low carb diet I have been getting constipated, would it be a good idea to add fiber to my drinks as well? I watched a YouTube video where the girl suggested baby food because it is pre-measured, puréed and you can take them with you to work/school for lunch. What are your thoughts on this? I thought baby food would be considered a slider type food and we should stay away. ??♀️

That’s what my doc wants me to have too. Two flintstone chewables a day, one with breakfast the other with dinner. [emoji1360]

Sleep
I’m pre-op so my opinion might not be worth much. Are you getting all of your liquids? I have noticed on days when I do not drink enough water my mind races at night, I can’t get to sleep and when I finally do it is very late and I wake up in the middle of the night feeling wide awake but unrested.

Coughing pillow?
Thank you. I’m glad I won’t need to take it to school with me. I do worry about braving fog and exhaustion after surgery. I took a light load of classes this semester to make up for it but I also took a very difficult class. I’m trying to work ahead so that I will be ready just incase and I will talk to my teacher about it as well incase she can suggest something to help. Thank you again [emoji16][emoji1360]??

Coughing pillow?
I was wondering if you used a coughing pillow after VSG and if so, how long after surgery did you need it? Would a firm pillow be better than a squishy fluffy one? I am hoping to go back to school a week after surgery (hopeful, not overly optimistic lol) and I was wondering if I'd need to take my pillow with me.
