  1. What hospital are you going to be in? Maybe we can cheer each other on, lol!
  2. I'm really starting to get nervous now. I leave for Tijuana Monday morning! Time is sure flying by! They need to invent a word for "terrified and excited" because I'm somewhere in between!
  3. I've been researching ways to ease the gas pain after surgery. I don't know first hand if these work or not but I figured it was at least worth mentioning. 1. Ambulation: any movement helps so even when you're not walking, rock back and forth or side to side. 2. mylicon 3. pain meds (obviously these don't help that much, lol) 4. warm drinks, see if they will heat up your protein and water 5.a heating pad. 6. increase fluids but that's not very easier after wls, lol. 7. reposition: lay on left side, or on your knees, head down and bottom up (again, another one I'm not sure will be to easy after wls) I hope one of these will help you. Oh, and my sister is a nurse and she said to ask for Benedryl if the nausea medications don't help. Good luck to you!
  4. I have to disagree, the amount of weight lost has nothing to do with how much you weigh. Everybody is different. For instance, my mother was 270 before her gastric bypass, at 5'7" her goal weight is 170. So that's 100 pounds. The fact that you are only 5' your suggested goal weight would be 115 to 130. So technically you need to lose the same amount as her. I don't see how that would make you any different than her. She had gastric bypass in March and she has already lost 80". On the other hand, I have friends who have had gastric sleeve that have lost as much weight and at the same rate. Whatever surgery you choose, it's gonna be hard, but there's no way of knowing how much or how fast you will lose weight. That all depends on how much effort you put in, but you could be just as successful as anyone else. Most people do lose the majority of their weight the first year, but honestly you would have less saggy skin if you did only lose 10 pounds a month. So it's a win either way, lol!
  5. I'm having the same problem! Don't sleep very good and I'm completely emotional! And, every time my husband and kids cook something, the smell makes it feel like my big guts are eating my little guts! Lol!
  6. So, the BariatricPal 15g protein fruit concentrate (grape) tastes kinda like watered down grape kool aid but it's really not to bad at all. I had the protein soup (chicken) for dinner and it was actually pretty good and it has 15g of protein so win/win!
  7. If you go to the bariatric pal store there's lots of options for getting your protein in. I just ordered some protein broth, vanilla cappuccino, a couple of the fruit drinks and 4 protein shots, I'll let you know how they taste in a few days. As for the protein shakes I have to second Ceallaigh on the premier protein shakes.
  8. I'm having my surgery in Mexico so I've had to basically research post-op diet like you and I've found that You Tube has a plethora of information. Ton's of ideas and recipes!
  9. I'm heading to Tijuana to see Dr. Lopez-Corvala on Sept. 12th. Sooooo close!!
  10. I just started my pre-op diet today, surgery date is Sept. 12th! Can't believe it's almost here!
  11. Lol, I just noticed that I repeated! I couldn't see my first one, lol! I'm a dingbat!
  12. Cool, I'm having my RNY surgery with Dr. Corvala on September 12th! I'll take pictures and share my experience while I'm there. He has some videos on YouTube that are pretty cool to watch as well
  13. I'm scheduled for bypass on Sept. 12th at Angele's hospital by Dr. Juan Lopez-Corvalla. I'm nervous and excited at the same time, lol! I had originally decided on Dr. Ortiz at OCC but found out that he didn't do RNY bypass anymore. So when I started looking for another surgeon I found Dr. Lopez. He's also a professor at a college in Baja and Dr. Ortiz was one of his students, lol!
  14. Thanks Cherbear416, that would be awesome! I haven't really started looking local yet. I live out in the country about 45 miles to the nearest "city" so I was hoping to get some online support as well. Plus I think it'll keep me in line and accountable when I'm traveling, lol. Good luck with your surgery I bet you're really getting excited now! I can't wait to hear all about your trip!
  15. Hi everyone! I'm just joining the club, I have a surgery date of Sept. 12 in Mexico with Dr. Juan Antonio Lopez Corvala and I'm soooo excited to finally be taking control of my life! Yet, I'm also nervous about not having a local follow up community to help me along so I'm hoping to find some like-minded buddies to take this journey with! Good Luck to you all!!!
