  2. I think everyone has bad days and good days.. after all, we had to make a decision to do this to help us get healthy. Just remember we are strong, we can do this, and keep each others in our prayers. The foods we eat (usually the bad ones) are a comfort food and we have to have our minds right also. WE CAN DO IT!!

    can anyone tolerate chicken?

I had the same problem. EVERY time I ate chicken, I would slime. My doctor and I have discovered it is probably due to the chicken being a drier meat. Unfortunately, I can't grill it any longer because it dries it out too much. I can eat chicken if it is moist...Give that a try!! Good Luck!!
  4. ALL THE TIME!! I am glad you posted. I was beginning to think I was crazy.. Just like the previous posts, I was always hot.. I would wear shorts and short sleeves even in the winter. Now, I can't seem to get warm...Good luck!!

    Sleeping

I slept on my side the second night..I can't sleep on back and I did fine. I usually just prop a pillow behind me and voila, I am fine. Good luck!!
  6. I use a wonderful brand made by Syntrax. It is wonderful. I get the vanilla flavor and mix frozen fruit in it. It makes a shake and I usually drink two per day. I tried the Wal-Mart, GNC, and other brands, but the Syntrax brand is smooth and taste good. You can find it online if your local nutrition store doesn't have it..Good luck!

    SLIME?? Anybody??

I had a horrible month with that problem. Anytime I ate something solid, I would slime...I went back and they took some of my saline out and I have not had one problem with it.. I go back next week and they will refill it, butt I think that I will have them add only 1 cc instead of 2 cc. I did learn to go slow, eat smaller bites, and pay attention to what I was eating. Good luck!!
  8. I don't know if it leaks out or not, but when I went in for my first fill, there was less than 4 cc and that is what he had said he put in. I am very nervous about having some taken out, but I have to admit it was nice to be able to actually eat a meal this afternoon and not go running to the bathroom to slime until my stomach hurt. I have to admit, this will be a test for me..Can I actually continue to eat right...No, wait a minute, I have come too far to fall back now..I love the new me and for the first time in a long time and excited about shopping. I WILL continue to do what I am supposed to do, I will just have to be a little more diligent because I won't have my immediate full tool...=0)
  9. Thanks for the advice..That is exactly what my Dr. said...He took some fill out today and backed me down 2cc for 2 weeks..He wants me to start making sure I chew REALLY well before I go back up to 5 cc. Thanks for your advice..I just took pbing and sliming as a new part of life, but that is not the case. thanks for telling me to go see my doctor..I was falling into the soft mushie safe foods such as ice cream and mashed potatoes because I knew they would "go down" without problems. Thanks again and good luck to us all...
  10. Thanks Martie...I go in tomorrow for a follow up and I think I will keep that appointment and talk to him about it..It is sooo hard because when they are having you swallow water to see how "restricted" you are...I don't know what "feeling" is right and/or wrong...Thanks for your concern...It's nice to know we have others out there...have a great night!!
  11. Is this normal? I am the same way...I am just hateful to others and my patience feels like it is GONE!! I thought I was alone, but obviously others are experiencing the same...The crying is bad enough, but the uncontrollable anger is hard..You know that person hasn't done anything, yet you are ready to just lash out..Thanks for letting me know I am not alone...
  12. I was the same way..I cried for weeks after my surgery..I thought I was going crazy..I agree with everyone else...it is a trauma and such a change that our body goes through.. hang in there....There are people out here going through the same thing and you are not alone. The emotional roller coaster goes on indefinately...You can do it...the toughest part is over...now you are healing and getting healthy...YOU CAN DO IT!!!
  13. Thanks for your question..I am having trouble since my last fill and I thought things would get better. I slime almost everytime I eat and I thougtht it would get better as the month went on and the "fluid" slowly leaked out. After your post, I will call my doctor Monday and see if I can go ahead and come in...I have also worried about slippage. Thanks again for making me think with my head and not with my losing waist...LOL!! The only thing I can eat is protein shakes and ice cream. =0(...

    Vitamins!!!

I use a chewable vitamin and B vitamin which I bought at the nutrition center next door to our bariatric center. I asked about the Flinstones vitamins and was told that I could not get enough vitamins/supplements from them. Now, granted that could be a ploy to get me to buy the bigger vitamin, but I don't want my hair to fall out so I will pay the extra for the bigger vitamin. It doesn't taste too bad...I could not take the liquid vitamin...it tasted too gross. Yuck!! Anyway, I then eat my B vitamin which is strawberry kiwi flavored afterwards as a "chaser". Then I have a protein shake and off to work in the morning...Good luck!!!
  15. I went diving in June (2 months after my surgery) and I did not have any problems. Although I am just a novice, there was no discomfort anywhere when I dove. Good luck!!

I really need some support !!!

Linda, hang in there..I was where you are..I was crying..wanting the band out of me, but thanks to the wonderful people on this very site, I saw that I was not alone and I am doing wonderful. I am getting healthy (notice, I didn't say thin) but healthy for the first time in many years. I can't wait to finally be healthy and as others have said, this is a tool, not a miracle. I think often we see others who have had it for many years and are smaller and we want instant help. Hang in there...you WILL make it..you were strong enough to make this healthy decision for yourself...believe in yourself, YOU CAN DO IT!! We are all here in the same boat, paddling the same direction, and fighting the current with you...God bless and may He give you strength!! Donna::sad:
  17. Honestly, I did..I went through some really big emotional ups and downs. It did not help that my children were spending the week after my surgery witht their dad..so just be aware...there are emotional ups and downs...your body is going through major surgery, your blood sugar and body is adjusting to a liquid diet and post op meds, your brain is adjusting to the new band and your stomach is swollen. I was also like the writer above, I think I was really just down on myself that I even had to control my eating by being banded in the first place. I wondered why I couldn't be strong like my friends and just "diet" like them..I had to realize that I had an addiction..Mine was food...but now that I am healed, I do not have any regrets. Just like stated above, regrets of not eating foods? They were not healthy for me to begin with..Good luck..Sorry it was so long, but I wish someone had told me about the emotional healing I would be going through, just like the physical.
  18. For the first week, I had a hard time sleeping due to pain in my stomach. As I once was told, this too shall soon pass. I was fortunate, I did not have severe gas and did not have to use Gas X. I have actually had to use it more after the first few weeks (about week 3)....It will pass (literally )...I have the new band and haven't had any problem. I also had to have it filled the day of surgery due to it being loose on the day of surgery. Good luck!!
  19. I asked my doctor about the port position and he said that they have found that by putting the port in the center under my breast plate has been the easiest because by putting the port in different places they have to find it by using x-ray and different methods and by putting it in the same general place, he found it was easier. To be honest, I was concerned about my significant other being able to feel it and being "grossed out" by the feel, but my other said he can't feel it and it doesn't bother him. Good luck!!
  20. Hang in there..Been there and done that..I had the exact same reaction and like you, I cried everyday for one week. I thought I had made the worst mistake, but I am 3 weeks out and thanks to everyone on this forum, (honestly they were life savers) I made it through. I am in the mushy stage and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I had wonderful shakes. Syntrax was the brand..They taste like a milk shake and I don't mind drinking them..In fact, I still drink one per day just to get the protein..The best thing for me was to talk to my nurse...(she was a HUGE help) and to get out of the house. Just to drive to Wal-Mart and walk around was a great...So, the weather is getting nice, take a walk, take a breath, and believe in yourself . We made this choice because we were tired of living in our big bodies, this is our chance to be us..a healthy person. You can do it!! Keep logging onto this forum and keep talking to people ..it will get easier.
  21. Hang in there..I am 3 weeks post op and boy did I have the same thoughts the first few days after surgery. I cried for almost a week, but like the others said, one day you will wake up and say, ok, I did this, it is a good thing, let's do it! I thought I was the only one going through this phase and actually contacted my doctor...They told me the feelings were normal to just trust them...I did and some days are still hard when everyone around you is eating and you have "your food" you are allowed but again, just as everyone said, when others start noticing, hey you've lost weight, I just eat my mushies and say yes I have..thanks for noticing..Hang in there...We are all in this together...
  22. Yeah, the ice tea does not mix up well and I did not think it tasted anything like ice tea...That is why I did add that in the original post. The others do taste really good I think...They are not bulky like that and mix up really smooth. I did not taste the ice tea one first and its a good thing because I probably would not have tried the other...I tried the cookies and cream and the chocolate truffle. ::huh2:
  23. Congratulations to everyone either entering this band experience or thinking about it. I had such a response to a reply I sent to another question that I thought I would just send out the answer on a new thread. I went to a nutrition store in my town and got the best shakes. It is made by Syntrax and they have wonderful flavors such as Chocolate, Vanilla, Vanilla Essence, Chocolate Truffle, Strawberry Kiwi, Peach Necatar, and even an ice tea (but I do caution you, it does not taste like the sweet tea I was used to drinking everyday. My favorite is the Cookies and Creme. Anyway, many of you asked for the website...Here goes... SI03 INC.... and the phone is (866) 333-7403. Now I will say that it is not a cheap protein drink compared to the ones I tried at GNC and Wal-Mart, but I threw those out because I personally thought they were gross and bulky tasting. These shakes make up smooth, have 23 grams of protein so you are able to drink 3 per day and get in most or all of your protein and they taste good. I continue to drink one per day because it gives me the protein, is easy to make and drink on the way to work, and taste good. Good luck to all and I hope this helps someone or everyone !!

    Right Decision?

I was there....I was so depressed and thought I had done the wrong thing...did I jump on the surgery (although I researched it and talked to my doctor for over 3 years about it), I cried, I wanted it to be undone, but thanks to this site, I found out that I was not alone and that my feelings were normal. I gained encouragement to stick it out and to trust that I had done the right thing. This Friday marks my 3 weeks and I feel great. I am eating mushies right now and this is a hard stage for me..I thought I would be so excited to finally eat something other than a shake, but to me this is hard to try to get in enough protein so that I am not hungry. I never thought I would say this, but I miss the convenience of my shakes ( I had great tasting protein shakes...I found a GREAT brand...it was like drinking a milkshake) You did the right thing...I have lost 11 lbs and I am so excited...Hang in there...You will do fine!
