Hello from WV
I wont tell mom that someone only has to loose 5 pounds lol... I wonder why they started doind that and how they decide how much a person has to loose. Mom weighs about the same as me and I didnt have to loose any. Which then again, my surgery lasted over 2 hours due to my liver being large(well that is what my friend who works in surgery told me) so maybe thats why. Who knows.. All I know is mom is in the "starvation diet" right now and I find myself saying "Welcome to my world" lol

Hello from WV
I dunno how they are doing it.. All I know is mom said they told her 5 pounds EACH week. They didnt tell her that until her actual preop appointments though. She had already been on her preop diet for a week before they told her that.

Hello from WV
I dont know if I lost any during the preop or not. Mom was told 10 pounds must be lost. She even has to go weigh in again Wed, which is the day before her surgery and if she is not down 10, surgery will be postponed. This must be a new thing, I didnt have a weight loss requirement which I had mine done in July. You're going to have a fun thanksgiving lol.. Liquids for you. Mom should be on mushies or softs by then. Good luck. Keep us posted

Hello from WV
Froggy, what is the latest on your process??? When do you go to Kaplan? Do you have a date yet?? Moms surgery is Thursday. I guess they have a new rule that if you dont lose 10 pounds in the 2 week preop, your surgery is postponed. I didnt have to do that. Did anyone else?? Mom was frustrated, a week into your diet according to Jeannies scales she had only lost 3 pounds. She said if you compare Kaplans scales to Jeannies, she lost more like 7. She is REALLY trying to get the weight off so she doesnt get postponed.

Hello from WV
Ok, so mom is now on her proop diet and I feel so bad for her. Here, Dad and I can eat stuff that she cant but wants to and I know how I felt when I was on it so I know how she feels. The closer her surgery gets, the more scared I get. Im ready to have someone else in the house on the same diet, but I am so scared for her during surgery. She has flatlined(heartstopped) twice during 2 different surgeries before and that scares me half to death. Her surgery is on the 6th. For those of you who pray, PLEASE pray for her.

Thick "crud" in back of throat after eating...
This is definitly a major learning process. Since my last fill, I get pain also after just eating 1 bite.. I think I probably am just still eating too fast or too big of bites. Then of course I get the crud. It is soo tempting to just stick my finger down my throat at that time, but I know that is bad to do. lol.. I fight the urge to vomit the way it is so I know I would never be able to stick my finger down my throat anyway. Just gotta learn the signs and signals from my body and I guess that stuff wont happen. The holidays are coming and that kind of scares me. I keep thinking "will the turkey get stuck" how about ham... I guess I will just learn.

Thick "crud" in back of throat after eating...
Thanks for the reply.. So that is my sign for no more food. I know what you mean by saying "just one more" I keep telling myself, Ill let this feeling go away and try to eat again. It is so tempting to take a drink to wash the crud down, but that hurts so bad to take a drink. That is a hard habit to break.

Thick "crud" in back of throat after eating...
I was banded July 14. I have had 4 fills so far and have 7.5cc in a 14cc band. This is the first time I have REALLY felt restriction. After this last fill I have noticed that after just taking a couple bites, I get this THICK film in the back of my throat making me cough and stuff like that. Anyone else experience this? What is it? Does it mean anything? BTW I have never vomited, pb'd or slimed with the band, I have come very close to vomiting though.

Hello from WV
I will be at the meeting. I think Jeanie told me that she was unable to get that setup and was going to do the meeting on something else. I dunno, guess we will see tonight. I dont think I will make it to Zumba, my asthma is still acting up a lot here lately.

saltine crackers
I know when I was sick post op I wanted saltines SOOO bad. I was told by my nurse and a couple other people who have had the band that saltines that soon is an ABSOLUTE NO NO!. They told me that it would cause severe pain and vomiting. So I just got over it myself. I wanted Saltines AND sprite, couldnt have either one. Call your doctor to get some meds to help.

Hello from WV
I want to live past 35 years old. I started this when I was 25. I have severe asthma, high blood pressure, high heart rate, bad knees and a bad back. I dont see myself living 10 more years if I dont do anything.. Well, that is when I started the 6 month diet. I am now 3 months post op and proud to say I am already off my blood pressure pills.

Hello from WV
I have learned not to weigh myself daily. There are too many differences and it depends on the time of day you weigh yourself also. I weigh myself about once a week now and at the same time of day. There are days where I dont pee as much as usual and I know have drank a lot of water which then makes me gain weight on certain days, then the next day I pee like crazy and I would be down a couple pounds. Try not to dwell on that 1 pound. Think to yourself, what have I done that would have caused this pound gain, what havent I done? Think about the fluid input and output, are they equal? Try not to stress it too much. I only lost 10 pounds in my 6 month preop diet. I am very proud to say though, had a weigh in yesterday and a fill and I am down 32 pounds!! FINALLY.. Sorry, had to brag. I stayed at only 20 pounds down for the longest time, I was so excited to see that loss.

Anyone have a pelvic ultrasound after banding?
I dont know after the band what it is like. I have PCOS and have had MANY ultrasounds. For the external ultrasounds, they just ask me to have a full bladder when I get there. Now the internal ultrasounds, I just have to have an empty bladder. Good luck

Hello from WV
Well froggi, everyone I know that has been through this, Jeannie made the first call. Jeannie called me, then Dr.Kaplans office called me. Same with my mom, Jeannie, called mom, then Kaplans office called. I received my letter before Jeannie and Doctor Kaplan, and they would not let me schedule any appointments until they had the letter in hand. I dont know if they are doing it differently now or not, but that is how it has been for all the people I have talked to. My went to Lidnsey last week, Kaplan on Monday which is the day she starts her preop and then Jeannie next week sometime. Me, Lindsey was out of town so I went to Kaplan on a Tuesday, Jeannie on a Thursday, and surgery Monday. I got t do it fast because I had already done my preop diet and did not need an EGD. Hope all goes well, it WILL go fast though.

Hello from WV
You dont need to wait for the letter to make the appointments. Once Jeannie calls you and says you have approval, that is when to start everything and usually when she calls to tell you that you have approval, she goes ahead and makes the appointment with her. Oh well, good luck. Mom goes to Kaplan Monday and surgery will be 2 weeks from then. So they are looking at the 3rd for her.
-
Hello from WV
good for you froggie. so when do you go see Dr. Kaplan?
-
Hello from WV
knowing her, she will probably find a reason not to go

Hello from WV
The psych they had me go to was Dr.Dunn. Hopefully enough people complained about him that they found another one. Someplace in Marietta delt with his billing. My appointment is 12:30 Monday. Im the same way, stay hungry, no weight loss. Now I did walk 1/2 a mile on my treadmill today, lol I had to hold my shorts up. Im kind of scared of what he will say to me. I did send an email to Jeannie telling her how upset I was last month and still am over it. We have been playing phone tag since though.. I sit in class and my stomach just growls up a storm. It is so embarressing, I mean here I am the fat girl and my stomach is growling.

Hello from WV
Im not sure how he does the bill I know that someone else handles it. Mine was so messed up and crap it was rediculous. Finally, once I got insurance to pay him, they paid a little over $500 and I had to pay the rest. But one good thing was if I paid it off right then, I got a little discount. Hey, any discount helps. I dont even think that visit was worth $50, its awful. Anyway, have fun LOL

Hello from WV
Heck, the psych doesnt ask the questions, they are all on paper and they are multiple choice! I felt like I was in school. They are very stupid questions at that. He told me that I have trust issues especially with men. I forget the other things he told me, it was pointless. Oh yeah, said Im depressed.. YA THINK??!! Ive only been taking effexor for about 5 years now and can cry at the drop of a hat. LOL before I was on effexor, if someone looked at me and said Hi, I would start crying.
