July 17th here I come!
OCBreeze4U - Yay! Another July 17th Bander. Is your surgery being gone outpatient or will be staying overnight? Mine is being done outpatient. You and I have something in common too. I was born in Corona back when it was mostly open land and dirt fields. Things sure have changed since then. I grew up in OC.

Struggling with staph infection before surgery...rant
Kayleigh's Mommy - Thanks for your well wishes. It just so turns out that I went to the doctor on Thursday and ended up back there on Friday. It appears that I developed a bad reaction to one of the antibiotics. My skin is painfully red and itchy. It looks like someone poured boiling Water on my skin. I'm now using steroid creme. My doctor had me go for a blood test and xray in my leg to make sure there is not underlying infection in my bone. Did you already have your surgery? I'd like to hear how it went.

Isopure fruity drink thingies...
I've tasted the Melon something or other and wasn't crazy about it. I have been buying a couple a week so that I'll have enought for my day before surgery liquid diet and for the week after surgery. My friend told me they are better over ice. My GNC doesn't carry the singles but I get mine at the commissary on the military installation I work at.

Struggling with staph infection before surgery...rant
I went to the doc 10 days ago because my calf was bright red, swollen and hurting. Turns out I have a staph infection and am on 2 antibiotics. Well, I have another appointment this morning because it has gotten better but is not 100% gone. Now I have a rash on my leg and in my trunk area, a yeast infection and diarreha from the meds along with a constant headache from one of the meds. One of the worse things is that I'm eating more than usual because I get naseated if I don't have food in my tummy from the meds and I've gained 6 lbs since my visit with the surgeon a week ago. I'm also trying to eat 4 oz of yogurt 4x a day to help with the yeast. Grrr... I just hope this gets cleared so I can have my surgery in 3 weeks. I guess I should start a blog so I can rant on there...

Heartbroken...
I'm sorry you are having to go through this by yourself, but don't let it stop you from becoming the person you want to be. I think too many times men get let off too easy. My hubby has been by my side thorugh all of this. He asks questions, has gone to my nutrition class and was supposed to go with me to the surgeon's office but they cancelled my original appointment and he wasn't able to make it. We have talked extensively about it. Now that you've shared your feelings with you hubby, he may step up to he plate and start getting more involved. I think that you will want him to be there when you get the surgery because afterall, he is your life partner. Maybe him seeing you in the hospital will trigger something for him.

It's good to read that your appointment went so well. Go you!

? claiming lap-band as a tax deduction (self-pay)
Mini Me - Did you have to get a prescription from your PCP saying it was a medically necessary procedure? Was your doctor in Mexico or the U.S.? I'm wonder if either of these make a differance for whether or not you can deduct the medical expenses.??

Just For Fun: Unique Free Meal Ideas
SDS - It sounds like a good way to get a 'free' meal. I'm just afraid that it will be something that I can't keep down. Kalipso2 - I'm looking forward to the day that I can eat off of DH's plate. Now we will be able to afford for him to get steak and lobster.

NSV - I went Skydiving
Wow, I never realized that they weigh you. Whata great 30th birthday gift to yourself! Did you get any of your dive on video?

Have i already screwed myself??
Congrats are being banded, but you need to stop eating foods before your doctor said it is alright to do so. You are risking major complications by eating including band slippage. Look... you are already doing great with a 32 lb. weight loss. Keep on watching the numbers drop.

Awesome Cool New Person!
Welcome to the message boards! You sound like one busy person and I bet those 6 months will fly by. Tricare is awesome! I have nothing but good things to say about them through this whole process. Good luck to you!

Second thoughts pre opt
Can you post why you are saying this? What was your experience? If you can help us understand then perhaps some won't considering doing it. But, without the facts to backup what you are saying, your words mean nothing.

Conservative Family Doctor?
Grehlin is a hormone that overweight people have that makes them hungry and want to eat all the time. If you read an article about it you will understand it more. IMO, I would still type up the info about you dieting history. With it staring him in the face it will help him to see things more clearly that having to thumb through your medical records. My thought is that it will also show that you've put a lot of thought into LBS.

Conservative Family Doctor?
I would go to the Lap Band website and print off a brocure to take to him if you don't already have one because he might not be familiar with LBS. Have an indepth outline of all of the diets you have tried, with the amount of time you've done them, how much you lost, etc. You might also do a Google search and get information about the hormone 'Grehlin' to show the doctor. I would then have a heart to heart with him and show him all of the info you have collected and explain why you think the surgery will help you. Good luck!

Wow Did I already find my sweet spot?
Congrats on getting your band and your weightloss. You've done remarkably well with your numbers. I bet at the end of 7 days you will have another loss but don't dwell on it if you haven't. You need to give your body time to catch up. At this point it does sound like you've hit your sweet spot. I look forward to the day that I can only eat a litte bit and be satisfied.

Has anyone had a glass of beer after being banded?
Most doctors say no beer. It has empty calories, has carbonation which stretches the pouch out and you can become intoxicted quicker. My nutritionist/surgeon also feels that drinking alcohol is also stressful on the liver when you are losing weight because it gives it a double whammy when having to burn calories but also work on filtering alcohol. They feel it puts the liver at a greater risk for becoming diseased. I've also seen people post who have drank beer post op and they say it causes an unbelievable bloating that is miserable.

Second thoughts pre opt
Once you get the Lap Band you are only supposed to eat three meals a day with no snacks or grazing in between meals. You also say that you are a carb addict. With the LB, protein is supposed to be eaten first so would need make sure you got those requirements in before going for the carbs.

started liquid pre-op diet today!!
Blending the protein drinks in the blender with ice makes it so much better. You feel like you are getting a lot too. Popscicles and Jello will also help you feel like you are eating something. If you drink Unjury I understand that the stawberry flavor tastes good mixed into Lemonade Crystal Light.

Extended release meds pre-op
Make sure you mention this to your surgeon and PCP. When I attended a nutrition class we were told to make sure we didn't use timed-released vitamin supplements, for what reason I don't know.

How Long for Approval??
I saw the surgeon on Tuesday, request was submitted on Wednesday and got approval on Thursday.
