    What to expect??

Expect gas pain (felt like terrible stomach ache and back spasms), general soreness, and fatigue. They'll probably try to get you to start sipping fluids sooner than you think you should. Do it! First few days are a little rough but not AT ALL as bad as I feared it might be. You'll probably just regret you hadn't done it sooner.
  2. I've struggled with the same issue since age 20 (now 31 yrs old). I've tried electrolysis (ouch) and laser hair removal. Laser hair removal did work (for a while). I had about 6 treatments and saw maybe a 50% reduction in hair growth, but it only lasted for a few months. I've lost about 100 lbs after RNY, but the issue is still pervasive. I still grow a FULL beard but the hair is not as coarse. I've read that spironolactone and metformin can help. If you prefer something natural: 3 cups of spearmint tea a day has been show to be somewhat effective in slowing facial hair growth. I'm now using Vaniqa, still the first week. Maybe a combination treatment will help you see good results? Spiro+ Metformin+ spearmint tea+ Vaniqa+ laser or electrolysis?
  3. I had horrible back pain the first 2 weeks. It's gotten a lot better recently. Today makes exactly 4 weeks post-op for us! Congrats everyone. I've lost 21 pounds so far.
  4. @Mamabear22I suppose it COULD be worse lol Today was great though. I have more energy, and less hunger/pain than yesterday.

    May 24. Any surgery buddies??

I can't wait to be able to EAT again. Mainly, because of the social aspect. My manager's last day in my department was today, and there was a 'goodbye dinner'. I didn't go, obviously. I'm sad that I missed it. Also, I really miss meeting my mom and friends for lunch or dinner. Starting to get cabin fever from being in this house from Thurs-now. It's gotten to the point where I'm almost looking forward to returning to work. lol

    May 24. Any surgery buddies??

Today was my first day withOUT prescription pain meds. Had 1000 mg of Tylenol this afternoon because my incisions have become really sore, and for the gas pain. Saturday -Monday were hell. I was sooooooooooo HUNGRY. Yet, I could not drink protein shakes without feeling bloated and on the verge of throwing up from fullness. I'm on a full liquid diet....but yesterday was my breaking point. I bought some chicken salad and pureed it in a food processor. Two tablespoons later and I felt so sated. Im back to protein shakes and water today but there's comfort in knowing i can lick a little chicken salad puree off a spoon and feel semi-normal again. My energy level increased significantly too. I return to work on Monday, but I worked a few hours on a project I needed to turn in by the 31st. Now that it's completely, I feel less stressed to 'feel better'.

Day 1 post op - my surprises

I hopped on here the day after surgery to read your post! I was too out of it to post myself though. Your story basically sums up my experience so far. I woke up 3 hours after surgery with horrible gas pain. It mostly effected my abdomen and back. I did not have anything to drink that evening but managed to drink 2 oz of Muscle Milk and 3oz of water the next morning starting at 11:00 am. I was discharged at 4:00 pm on May 25th. My pain level has improved a LOT. Moving around definitely helps! I'm starting to burp and pass gass. Burping hurts a bit. I'm still not meeting my protein or hydration goals but I'm doing better. Protein shakes feel very 'heavy' for some reason. I've started drinking a clear protein infused water called Protein20 as my 'hydrating fluid'. Hopefully, I'll be able to catch up that way.

    My First Post

Hello! I've been lurking here for the past 2 weeks or so. I'm scheduled to have RNY on May 24th, but I'm still waiting on insurance approval. I went to a weight loss seminar the last week of February and had my first consultation with my surgeon on March 21st. Current weight: 265
