    July Sleevers!!!

Oh my gosh that's hilarious… I can just imagine it! You go girl! I'm 41 and already purchased my ticket to visit my sister and nine nieces and nephews - they are young but will probably flip out when they see me in December. And I'm kind of excited about that!

    Help - Grumpy AF

I can relate....except that I don't get to eat anything except the shakes and Jell-O. I just posted this comment on another thread: The headaches are gone from the first few days of liquid diet but it still pretty much sucks! LOL I'm hungry all the time. Seems like I can't get enough water to fill me up and quench my thirst. Lots of bathroom breaks! On a positive note, I've been losing almost 2 lbs a day so that's going to get me to my goal. Four days down, nine to go! I made myself a calendar to check off the milestones. That helps when you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I will try to post a pic of it. It is taking me through August to Labor Day when I go back to regular diet, the Ed Sheeran concert, and a trip to Asheville, NC! Having lots to look forward to makes the liquid diet bearable! 🙂

    Psych Evaluation

The result of my psych evaluation was that I had to participate in six group sessions. The schedule did not match with mine so I had to see another therapist at least six times, which I found one on my insurance plan so it was only a $20 co-pay each visit. We had to cover the same topics as the group sessions and then she wrote a letter stating that I would be a good candidate for surgery. I really like this therapist and I've continued seeing her beyond the letter of recommendation and I hope that this will be at another tool to help me make this a successful surgery in the long run. There are many issues that we will have to face moving forward and six group sessions just doesn't cover it all. If there is a way for you to do it like this, I would recommend you check out your options. Just make sure you have someone who is trained for eating disorders and not general family psychology. Good luck!

    July sleevers liquid diet

Optifast 800 shakes - they don't taste bad but it's rough! 5 shakes a day and unlimited sugar free jello and crystal light. I eat the jello but can't stand the crystal light

    July sleevers liquid diet

I guess I'm the last of the July sleevers (7/31) to start liquid diet. It stinks! Didn't realize how much of a habit eating is. I get hungry and think I'll have a sandwich. Nope, no sandwiches for you! LOL It could always be worse.... I am grateful for the opportunity.

Do you think the headache is sugar withdrawal or are we not allowed to have any caffeine? Can you have coffee? Good for you! Keep up the good work!

    Mental and Emotional prep

Thanks for starting this thread. That's exactly what I'm working on right now. I gave up Diet Coke (for the third and final time) four weeks ago and my taste for sweets totally changed - and I'm okay with that! Love the idea of having vintage tea plates! I bought silicone toddler plates! LOL It's making me laugh now - I'm going on a hunt for fancy plates! And it will keep me busy if I go to a few stores. I'm making myself a list of things to do to stay busy as I prepare to start the liquid diet on Tuesday: Take extra yoga classes Start a much delayed sewing project Sort through old photos in boxes Read the books that have been piling up unread Learn how to take better care of my orchid and re-pot a few succulents (condo living - no garden) Continue working on my vision board Declutter my closets Practice meditating Write in my journal Get a head start on my Christmas list (I have 9 nieces and nephews!) with all the money I'm saving from not eating out :-) Do some travel planning for the holidays (keep searching for the ticket on miles!) Get a massage Enjoy the Big Brother live feeds (Ha!) Re-read my therapist's favorite book - Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole Buy fancy tea cups and plates! I also got some popsicle molds and froze some protein shakes. It's okay, in a pinch! It's also important to remember that we will eat good food again! Life is long and this period of adjustment will be over in a blink of an eye! Good luck to us all!
  12. I'm starting the liquid diet on Tuesday and not allowing myself to binge as if I'll never eat again. In fact, I've actually lost a couple pounds already (shocker!). The reason I'm not freaking out is because (a) we will eat good food again! Maybe not tomorrow, and definitely not in the same quantities, but we will eat good food again; (b) I've been on a very restricted diet in the past that lasted over a month and it makes this two week pre-op liquid diet seems easy peasy. I know what to expect (emotionally and physically) and I have better coping skills to avoid any potential pitfalls; (c) my insurance requires that I remain the same weight (or less) as my first appointment and if I gain one single pound, everything is postponed without exception; (d) binging really only hurts you, doesn't help or make you feel good in the end. It's hard to stay calm when feelings of hunger, panic and desperation set in - so I'll remind myself this when I get there! In the meantime, I'm keeping all my scheduled appointments with my therapist.... it helps! Good luck everybody!

    July sleevers liquid diet

Count me in! Starting liquid diet on Tuesday - getting nervous - surgery on 7/31. How are you all doing that are already on the shakes??

Well 23 More Days until sleeved

How are you doing on the liquid diet? Only two more days until I start.... yikes!
  15. Only two days before I start the pre-op liquid diet. Trying to mentally prepare (remembering that yes, I will eat good food again in my life!) as well as physically preparing. I'm tossing any food that will go bad and giving away all the food I won't eat in my new routine. No food in the house = no temptation. I'm also lining up a list of things to do when I feel the urge to snack (like embarking on a long overdue craft project for my nieces/nephews)..... anyone have any tips? So excited!!

Its too totally mental... Have self talks often to defeat this phase! you can do it- talking to myself as I type 4 days before surgery!

I did that too, I tossed all my snacks that I love or gave them to my coworkers. Day 18 Post op here- and still on a pureed diet. Chin up....it will seem like it goes slow but keep your mind busy. Great idea on the crafts! :)

Well 23 More Days until sleeved

Thank you! Did you go to the hospital later that day for preop meeting? Did you start shakes the same day? I have a list of questions and am getting excited! I had a checkup with another doc yesterday and she told me that she knows our doc from her residency program and he is known for being very technically good in surgery. That was nice to hear! Meanwhile I'm home sick with a cold. Better now than on 7/31 I guess!

    July Sleevers!!!

Congrats! My date is also 7/31 (insurance just approved yesterday, officially!) in Miami. My preop diet starts 7/18. Would love to stay in touch along the way. Are you on instagram? I started a wls account "fun.fit.travel" or message me here. Getting excited!!
  22. Hi all. I have a friend that has a genetic kidney disease waiting on a living donor. I haven't been tested to see if I am a match yet. I've never had surgery in my 41 years so the sleeve on 7/31 already has me a little freaked (can't stand the thought of an IV). Is there anyone out there that has had the sleeve that was a kidney donor either before or after? I feel terrible that I haven't been tested but I'm also not telling people about the surgery for now. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
