May Sleevers?
I am so glad you are doing well. What an inspiration. Did your nausea last a long time? Was it the anesthesia? I am glad to hear that Gas x Chewables are helping. I am on day 4 of the liquid diet and it has been hard. I am so ready for the surgery and hearing your story gives me hope.

Has Anyone Kept Their Surgery A Secret?
I went ahead and told everyone. I think it is a very personal decision. The funny thing is that since telling people 4 of my friends who had lost weight told me they had had surgery. They have been great about giving me advice and helping me. When they were loosing weight, I never thought about surgery. I just thought they finally found something that works and they did. One friend told me she ate very little and frequently during the day, it was true. There was no need to tell me it was due to surgery. Some friends say they would have admitted having surgery, had I asked. Others said they would not have. It is what makes you comfortable. Best of luck on your journey. I am just starting mine.

May sleevers?
I start my pre-op 2 weeks 800 calorie liquid diet on Tuesday. I have been pretty positive and Zen about this whole thing, Today my husband and I went grocery shopping for what I will need for the first week. I work during the week, so Sunday is our shopping day. In the middle of the store, as we were looking at labels and figuring out how to meet my nutritional requirements, it suddenly became very real and I freaked out a bit. Okay, I freaked out a lot. I am strangely not scared about the surgery. It is more about being able to manage the new normal when it comes to eating. As I was cooking dinner for the family today, after putting away all the protein shakes that will be my sustenance for the next two weeks. I felt better (Just a bit, I'm still freaking, but in denial). I hope everyone is doing well. If anyone else has freak out moments, know you are not alone.

Appointment With Surgeon Tomorrow
have my second pre-op appointment with my surgeon. I have read, researched, and spoken to many people that have had this surgery. I am working hard on staying positive and having realistic expectations. I have not been worried about complications at all, until today. I know these negative thoughts are normal. My strategy is to push them aside and focus on all the benefits this surgery will bring. In the past few days, arthritis in my hips has been acting up due to the weather changes. I know that carrying all this extra weight does not help. My son is graduating from High School 9 days after my surgery. My first goal is to be there for him. It did suck that the dress that I bought for the graduation would not fit. My hope is that it fits by the time of the graduation. This is exactly why I am having this surgery, to be there for my family. I am not so focused on a weight goal, more on being healthy.

HELP! Hating all protein shakes
My surgery date is 9 May. I have been trying different kinds of protein drinks to see which one I like best. I like the Premier Protein pre-made chocolate and vanilla. I have heard that your taste for things changes after surgery. I hope I can still drink this because all the others were not my fave. I like the Isopure, but it is super expensive.

The Date is Set
After a long journey, my surgery date is May 9th!!! It is almost one year to the date of my Mom's passing. I know she is happy about this and will be with me. I have read so much and imagined so many versions of what this journey will be like. Honestly, I am not worried about anything. I am ready to go. It will be a challenging summer. We are Army, and we will be moving this summer (maybe, we do not have orders yet). My oldest graduates from high school on the 19th. My older brother and best friend turns 50 on July 30, and I'm going to the party come hell or high water. In August we take our first born to college. He is going to Colgate, so upstate NY, here we come. My husband graduated from Ithica. I love the area. Having said this, it is going to be a crazy summer. I will have to adjust to my new diet and body needs in the midst of a lot of change. I am used to change. It is my life. My hope is that with all that will be going on I will have my diet and exercise requirements as a constant to keep me focused. I know that this may sound crazy to some, but that is how my mind works. Oh, I forgot to mention that I will need to get a job wherever we move. Hey, no pressure. This will be an exciting journey. I can't wait to keep track of the good, the bad, and the ugly in this blog. I've always wanted to write a blog. Now I'm doing it. How cool is that!!! Back to re-reading The Big Book on The Gastric Sleeve. I've attached a photo of me and my crew. Youngest broke his ankle and had surgery. He is still on crutches.

Who Are You?
My surgery is scheduled for May 9th. It has been a long journey, and I am over the moon. I am 48 and married to my wonderful husband for 20 years (June 27). I have never been thin but was always healthy and athletic. My body was beautiful, and I never had any issues. My husband has loved me and supported me at every size I've been. I have two amazing sons. One who is heading off to college this fall, he is 17. My other son is 15 and a sophomore. My husband is active duty USARMY and like both my sons, wrestled when he was young. All three of my "guys," actually four (my 90-year-old father lives with us after my Mom's death last summer) guys are in great shape. I am tired of being the fat one on all of our family photos. I do avoid photos, but every once in a while one sneaks in. After menopause, my weight gain has increased, and I have not had success losing weight using the tools that worked for me in the past. I have other health issues that are impacted by my weight gain. My Mom passed away on May 11th of last year. She was only 72 but did not take good care of her health. As I sat with her in her hospital room after all life support was removed, just talking to her and telling her how much I loved her, I promised her that I would take care of my dad. I promised I would take care of myself better and that I would lose the weight. She could not talk, but I know that she heard me. It is so fitting that my surgery will be almost one year to the anniversary of her death. I know she will be with me.
