  1. As I sit here sipping yet another protein shake in prep for surgery next week it got me thinking. For all you post ops how much are you spending on food now as compared to pre surgery? I understand you're eating much less but how much is that offset by costs if your consuming protein, vitamins, better foods, etc? Please do not reply in dollar amounts but as a monthly percentage of what you spent pre op. Have a great weekend.....
  2. Scheduled for vsg with Dr. Illan and would like to know what tests and procedures are done both pre op and post op while in hospital for 2 days. Thanks in advance Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. Gathering info for upcoming surgery and would appreciate any recommendations as to : 1- what are your preferred protein powders and where have you found the best value for obtaining them 2- what vitamins are you taking and where also are the best values purchasing them
  4. If any surgeons out there monitoring site or any patients in the know I would like to know if a surgeon is able to leave more of the stomach in gastric sleeve surgery if the patient asks them to do so. Lets say my bmi is 37 and I wish to lose 60-80 lbs total. Is it then possible to leave more of the stomach so I could eat just a bit more than regular surgery? Hope this is not a stupid question but my surgery is scheduled in 4 months and wish to gather as much info as possible pre -surgery. Thank you all who have read this post and value all input
  5. Thanks for the replies. Will contact my surgeon for particulars
  6. Thank you for your prompt reply. Good luck to you
  7. I Just filled out questionnaire and was approved for self pay sleeve in Mexico with Dr. Illian sometime this summer. Would like some valuable input from those who can help me decide to pull the trigger or not. 1- I'm a 67 year old male who is 5 ft 7 in and weighs 240. I now live full time in an rv and enjoy the travel lifestyle very much. I'm not overly obese but enough to make me think about it way too much with both the way I perceive myself and somewhat how others perceive me. I put most of the lbs on in the last 20 years. According to what I've read about seniors having the surgery is that they will not shed as many lbs as a younger patient. For those seniors reading this please let me know how it worked out for you. Also, did it take you longer to recuperate? I can continue to live my life as is but would certainly like to live out the rest of it feeling better both physically and mentally. 2- I have borderline high BP and slightly elevated levels of cholesterol for which I take daily medications. For any of you in a similar situation were you able to eventually stop the meds due to the weight loss? 3- when fully recuperated from surgery did you find yourselves with an increased energy and activity level or the opposite effect? 4-As far as the mental aspect did you adjust to the severely diminished food intake? Do you still enjoy food in the limited diet or do you now perceive eating as simply fuel intake? I would think one of the reasons for surgery is that we overly enjoyed food to begin with so this must be one of the hardest obstacles to deal with post surgery. How much do you get cravings and are they hard or easily dealt with? Please give examples. 5-For those who enjoy an alcoholic beverage once in a while (3-4 times per week) how has this affected you? Thank you for those who have read this entry and I look forward to hearing from any and all who can help me in this serious decision making process......................
  8. Newbie from US just starting research on gastric sleeve surgery. Mexico seems to be a very popular and affordable destination. Can those of you who had the procedure done there recommend a particular hospital, clinic, doctor, pre surgery, post surgery, etc? All recommendations are greatly appreciated both positive and negative.
  9. Just found out there are 2 different ways to perform this procedure. my bmi is 37 so I am under the assumption I could get the single incision surgery if bmi under 40. I will probably be flying across coast to coast across the US after surgery so the pain factor may be less. Any thoughts or suggestion?
  10. I have just started my research into weight loss surgery after deciding to go for it. My first question on this forum is which surgery is the best between lap band or the gastric sleeve?
  11. What specifically did you like? Any dislikes?
  12. Those of you who have been sleeved please tell me what you were most pleased with concerning your surgery and recovery period. Also what disappointed you the most concerning the surgery and the period up to where you are now. It can be physical, mental, diet, etc. Any adjustments you found easy or difficult. How has it changed your life?
  13. Lizzie, Thank you for your honest and emotional perspective. Do you not feel more confident and happy as the weight comes off? I think about my weight everyday as I did not become overweight until my 50's. I don't know if any of you go through this but it consumes my thoughts. I am quite active and know I could do so much more in my waning years as a slimmer person. Diets and exercise only go so far and then I plateau after losing 20 lbs. Yes it will be quite a trade off as far as eating habits go but after the process there is not another choice so thanks to you and others on this site I have just found I am planning my surgery in April or May,
  14. Kate, Thank you for your honesty and openness and congrats on the weight loss
  15. I wasn't really concerned with the scars. My concern was I'll be on airplanes for 10 hours after the surgery and was thinking it might be a bit less painful, but I see the points made about it being better for the doc to make more than 1 incision. Guess I'm being a bit of a wuss
  16. Wow. Suggestions are overwhelmingly one sided. Thank you all for steering me in the right direction. Now I will concentrate on where to have sleeve done. No Insurance so I have began another thread on having it done in Mexico. Any one know if charity care covers it in US?
  17. Gryffen, I am leaning toward the sleeve procedure due to less complications and finding filling stations. I spoke with a Dr, who says he no longer performs the LP surgery. Maybe insurance purposes. Good luck in your weight loss..
