  1. Apple has a good point. Keep seeing different docs until you can figure out what might be going on. A bariatric surgeon might be able to say whether a revision could help. Your family doc should do bloodwork, etc. They can consider giving you nutrition through a stomach tube or I.V. if your life is in danger. [Hugs] hope they can figure something out.
  2. This is a personal choice. A rough estimate is "around 50 net carbs". If you want to be in ketosis then keep your net carbs under 20 (net is total minus fiber). 50 is still low carb but not usually in ketosis. Up to 100 is still relatively low carb. Over 100 is gonna slow weight loss. Of course getting more fiber is good.
  3. Sometimes we need to put barriers up in front of ourselves. The most obvious barrier to swinging by the drivethrough is lack of money. Pack your lunch and leave your money at home. If you need to pay for parking, just bring enough cash to cover that.
  4. Congrats, and just keep on sipping and walking!
  5. 2 nights in hispital are typical, so you should be feeling pretty good by time you get home! Good luck!
  6. Strap a bottle to your hand and take a sip every couple minutes. IV bags are very temporary, so you have to get a handle on drinking.
  7. Oh I'm so happy you went and are feeling better! It's amazing how bad dehydration can make you feel. Just keep on drinking... (it's a full time job these first months!)
  8. Have a good time at the seminar! No need to be nervous.. the doctor (or someone) will do all the talking...
  9. Drink milk and broth and a little watered-down juice. Don't worry about eating yet, you just need to get your energy from liquids.
  10. Go to the ER to get some fluids. You don't have to EAT to keep your energy up. Fluids that have protein and calories will work, but it sounds like you are too far gone with dehydration to be able to "catch up". You go on and get yourself to the hospital so they can fill up up with fluids, then you can start over with trying to get your consumption up. Get someone else to drive you. And if you don't have anyone, call a cab or even an ambulance. Try drinking milk, if you can tolerate it.
  11. I plan to go parasailing. I'll only need a rope and a boat.
  12. Almost everyone loses hair during the first year. Typically from months 3-9, and it starts regrowing at about your one year surgiversary. I'm 6 months out, and started losing during the preop diet, and it hasn't slowed at all. Can we say SUPER thin? I only have about half my hair left. Fortunately it's curly, so the body tends to hide the thin-ness. Haven't had trouble meeting my protein goals, and take vitamins, so it's just one of those things... Fingers crossed it'll start coming back in next spring...
  13. Week long stalls really knock down the monthly totals. No worries, losses are losses.. and the DS is super good at getting patients closer to goal and keeping it off.. but stalls and slower losses can happen. Just because month 3 loss is 8 pounds doesn't mean month 4 losses won't be 14lbs. The journey is full of ups and downs, and isn't linear.
  14. Divorce IS really common (I don't know the statistics). BUT, keep in mind that many of the relationships were rocky before surgery. In fact, the surgery may have been undergone as a last ditch, "maybe if I lose this weight he/she will love me more!" effort. Surgery also reconfigures so many aspects in the patient's daily life. Eating out doesn't hold the charm it used to.. taking walks and going to the gym are much more interesting... for the patient. The spouse may not want things to change. Personally, I'm 6 months postop and my hubby and I USED to go out to eat all the time, etc. But by the time I was 3 months postop my hubby realized eating out wasn't going to be a thing so much anymore. He also started seeing my dramatic improvements in health and happiness, and wanted some of that for himself. So he picked up a diet and joined me in my journey. Our relationship is slowly strengthening now. But it easily could have gone the other way...
  15. Nice post, thanks! One modification would be nice. Please say muscle weighs more than fat by volume, otherwise some of our readers' heads may implode...
  16. Oh my goodness, this has GOT to be the funniest thing I've read on this board! I'm sorry.... I think we're all like Christmas gifts.. we think we know what's inside, but have to unwrap it to know for sure. Your sexy nighty turned out to just be socks... Not sure what I have yet, although melted candle wax is probably part of it...
  17. I just started being able to cross my legs, too! It's still a tight fit, but possible! Today, the towel closed at the bottom!! A large bath towel (it wasn't a beach towel)!
  18. I have a new NSV! My bath towel closed at the bottom!!!!
  19. Ok, I just figured out my calories are closer to 1000 than 1200, so not such a big gap, after all!
  20. Ok, so all those calculators on the internet suck!!! I've been saying I eat 1200 calories, but in formulating an answer to this post, I found out it's closer to 1000! Sheesh. Ok..so my original post... : <<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Carbs are "fillers", calorie-wise. First, figure out your calorie goal. I like mine at 1200, for example. Then protein: mine is 70g. (280 cals). Then fat: Around 40g. (360 cals). 280+360= 640cals. 1200-640= 560 / 4= 140g carbs... <<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> But I know I don't eat that many carbs! So I went through and retotalled them by hand. My new totals.. 78g net carbohydrate (312 calories) 74g protein (296 calories) 45g fat (405 calories) Total: 1013 calories All those people on the super low carb, keto diets.. if they eat 150g protein and 20g carbs, that's only 680 calories. If they aren't trying to lose weight, they need to eat the equivalent of 10-15 tablespoons of fat. Wowsers..
  21. Make sure you have a friend or family available for support (on call in case they are needed). If one of you has complications, the other may not be able to drive to and from the hospital the first week, etc. Do all the heavy lifting before surgery (like bringing in the big bags of pet food for a 4-6 week supply). 4-6 weeks is a long time where neither of you can pick up more than 10lbs. If you have a big dog that pulls on the leash, who will walk it? Examine your own day to day lifestyle, constantly asking.. if I can't pick up weight or reach my feet, how would this work?
  22. This is exactly what I was going to say to Oompa Lumpa. Oompa... you have a lifetime of being unhappy with your body. Surgery, no surgery..obese, not obese.. it won't make a difference. I recommend putting off plastics until you are finished having children. Don't pile on more guilt by borrowing money from family to do a procedure that won't make you happy anyway. It's time to switch your focus away from how you LOOK to what you can DO. If you are working out, focus on walking a bit farther on the treadmill or lifting a bit more weight. Focus on doing a great job at work, and fixing that thing in your home that's been put off. There are so many other things in life to concentrate on, that it's time to put your body image on the backburner. (Hopefully you've used your post-surgical time to create new eating habits that are now second nature, thus require very little thought).
  23. My meal plan: Breakfast: 4oz cottage cheese and 3-4 oz fruit. Lunch: 1 egg and 4oz black beans Snack: 1oz nuts or seeds Dinner: 4oz meat or fish and veggies Beverages: 1 cup milk and 2 cups coconut water I can't eat that much at each meal so I break it up.
