Hi everyone, I have been hesitant to tell anyone that I am having sleeve surgery in 2 weeks. My BMI is low (31) so I am not your "traditional" patient and I know the comments that will come up. Why can't you diet and lose the weight?! You exercise everyday and still are that size?! Why can other people do it, but I can't?! This is a lot of money that can be used by the family for other things. The comments and thoughts go on and on. These are thoughts that I have heard from other people and actually told myself. Last night, I talked with a friend who had low BMI like myself and did it more for preventative reasons and she helped me clear my head. This is MY life! I have to live in this body, no one else. This is for me, no one else. I wish there was more of a shift in the medical community to look at this surgery as a preventative measure. A way to have a fuller, richer life. A way for those of us who have food issues to take control of our life, as an extra tool in our tool belt. I am doing this for me. To be a better wife, mother, and me!! Ahhhh my surgery is on the 16th!!! I am doing pretty good on the pre-op too. Are you drinking coffee? There wasn't anything in my paperwork saying I couldn't and I only have one cup (black) but it dawned on me this morning that maybe I shouldn't be drinking it.
